Now I have studied both the Passat (NMS) and 2012/13 Lavida tail lights (from picture) and can confirm while all three are very similar they are not the same car.

I do have reservations that Lavida, Santana and Passat all look similar but then this is for China and anything sells with a VW badge.

A "Jetta" based on a Polo and built in China...very interesting. I'd wager that a Polo sedan would outsell the Golf/GTI in NA.

One of these Chinese Santana/Jetta cars along with the Skoda Rapid are based on a modified PQ25 platform that may have bits of PQ34 (Mk4 Golf) componentry.
Engines powering the range are a 4cyl family EA211 (same family as up! engines).
Release is scheduled for last quarter 2012 / first quarter 2013.

My bet if VW were to make a entry sedan for North America then one of these would be it, in second generation though.

This looks like the Rapid/Toledo to me.



Would make sense, they could sell 3 models only with changed front and rear.
Even the interieur wouldn't look wrong as a VW.

Is that a jetta or a Rapid with slightly longer trunk? VAG products start to look incredibly close...
Either way, if it#s a Jettaa, why call it Santanna? And if it's a Rapid, why use the name of a larger than Jetta car on a smaller than Jetta car?

For me it doesn't even look like it would have a larger trunk than the Rapid/Toledo.

I don't have a picture of what models are currently sold in China, so I can't say where it would fit name-wise.
Is there even a Jetta in China?

It does seem to have a silthly longer rear overhang and no hatchback like thr Rapid/Toledo twins.

And China gets basically every kind of possible Jettya. IMO there are the Mk. II (yes, the 80ies model with an estimated dozen facelifts), Mk. IV, Lavida and new Bora based on Mk. IV, the Mk. V and the current Mk. VI on sale.....
