Default 2007 Land Rover Defender

http://www.discoweb.org has two pictures of the allegedly 2007 Defender. If accurate, then the first one appears accurate as a development of the current model. The second exterior shot is a little odd, in that there is a serious power bulge in the hood.

Hmm...

Cant see the pix. Seems that you need to register to view. Can you post them elsewhere?

In any case powertrain should be 2.4L out of Transit as informed in other sites and I guess interior will be revamped to certain extent.

Thanks!

Huge modernization inside and practically same outside except for hump on hood.

In any case, as far as I know only major powertrain change is the 2.4L from the Transit which is Euro IV. No gasoline planned even though I though the venerable 4.0L from the Explorer and LRIII could make it into the Defender...

No sense "restyling" it. It's perfect. It's beyond style, like an aluminium mountain goat.

Very different interior that looks very good for old looking Defender.

The Discovery style interior looks great. The exterior didn't need any alterations. It's perfect as it is.

I don't agree. Land Rover has so completely reinvented its image that the Defender is starting to look like a crude Chinese knock off of an Asian SUV. I agree that the Defender is an icon, but the nose looks too old school. I'd take an LR3 because this thing is just to austere for me.

This does raise an interesting question. LR is busy reinventing itself with the new RR, RRS, LR3 and LR2 all in the same high tech, high spec mould. However, the old Defender continues to amble on, without much drastic change since changing from the Series I/II/III vehicles. Like Clarkson says about the 'lazyness of Porsche 911 designers', Defender designers haven't been very active for decades. And we don't really mind that about the 911. That's been the same shape for as long as the Land Rover has.

It would be a big mistake for the Defender to drastically change look any time soon. It's an icon. Even the new Beetle and Mini had to reuse the old iconic shapes of their famous predecessors. The 911 never stopped using it and there'd be an almighty uproar if they did.

The new Defender should make use of the technology updates of its younger brothers, but should always remain recognisable as what it is; a Land Rover, through and through. The current model is on the TopGear Coolwall in the 'Sub-Zero' section. The next one should be too.
