Extending the headlights to meet the grilles was always misguided IMO - this does nothing to change my opinion. the rear changes are not an improvement over the current generation. Overall, it's simultaneously boring and awkward looking. And old.

Looking at the details, I think it is quite an attractive car in its own right, as well as in context of the BMW range and the outgoing 5er. Nice addition with the extra character line above the existing waistline.

Of course, some deviation from the class-standard evolutionary design ethos would be welcome, but it's still the right mix between the agility of the 3er and pure class of the 7er.

8.5/10, good enough BMW

Apart from the front, it looks fine. But overall, it's forgettable.

5 series wagon has always been a beautiful car and this is no exception. its boring and the headlights and taillights wrap around the profile too much for me but I'd still take one! wonder if they'll follow Mercedes and Audi and offer an "offroad" version.

Presumably for rear A/C and seat controls? Maybe infotainment stuff?

I'm sure someone answered this b/f, but... why is the Chinese market so in love w/ these extended-length version of mid-sized cars? Why not just got a 7-Series instead? Are the XL versions cheaper than a 7?

Fairly subtle but quite effective IMO

Thank god no massive grille, but, all the detailing now more or less identical to the 3 series, will make it even harder to distinguish them, especially in teh front 3/4;

At least apart from that rear black plastic "diffusor", that could be a bit smaller for my liking, the general detailing does look rather tasteful. A welcome change for BMWs of the late...
