I suspect either people will like it for the weird look and it will sell well, or it will be one of the shortest lived designs and a facelift will occur much quicker than planned. If that happens, perhaps any pre-facelift models sold might become collector's items in 30-40 years.

That would be a most interesting situation. If you just plan to collect it, I guess you could simply cover the whole damn thing to avoid having to actually, you know, look at it.

Or put a regular 3 series bumper on it;

WHat I find more worrying though is the number of second hand 318d and 316i models that will have the massive double Edsel grille bumper thrown on them by their 22 year old McDOnalds car park owners once the first batch of leases end and they transition from company car to their next stage in life.... (I wonder if a tiny 3 cylinder engine will freeze in winter behind that opening )

I wish BMW would return to the elegant simplicity of the 2002, Bavaria, and 3.0CS. BMWs used to have a rightness of form that gave them presence and now they are trying to have presence--and succeeding in all the undesirable ways--due to wrongness of form.

I'm so glad they found a way to make the kidneys even bigger for the M model. This deserves every bit of bashing it gets, as it is a caricature of what the BMW brand once was....
