Take the Prius.

The Camry is built like complete junk.

Ruff plastic trim/edges on the doors, handles, dash. Huge gaps on tail lights to the metal (bottom side). You can fit your pinky in the gap on some cars. Cheapest plastic in it's class.

Altima?
Civic?
Aura?
Or straight up Toyota or die?

Just go test drive them and see which one he's the most comfortable in.
specs and pictures don't tell you that.

But yes if he forsees himself hauling stuff often, the Prius has the best cargo area.

How to save the enviroment now:

Buy a Hybrid! Make connections with the wild. Go out there, and get your inner nudist in touch with nature, and the organic feeling of eating wheatgrass. Enjoy tofu, but in moderation, as Buddha intended. Feel the moist air rush past your genitalia, and feel invigorated by the scent of rosebushes, which are not prickly... they are just made the way god intended them to be.

How to Ruin the Enviroment in 15 years:

Realize your Hybrid is jerking along, and you can barely make it to your next Yoga class. Go out and look for a new battery. Realize it's impossible to find, as people have realized that Hybrids are a waste of money. Go to the dump, and drop off your car which smells of singed tiger lillies, and whatch in horror as millions (exaggeration) upon millions of tons of lead is plummeted into the air because of those batteries.

What a great way to save the atmosphere.

I think Prius uses NiMH not lead.

If people bothered to actually learn the issues rather than taking Bill O'Reilly's word and making clichd jokes about people who try to conserve fuel, we might make some progress some day. Environmentally and technically these cars work, period. And just as important, sales of hybrids today provide the incentive, revenue and economies of scale for R&D investments in even more efficient technologies to come. It's how I make my living. Want a real waste of money? Keep buying your foreign oil from unstable regimes bent on your demise.

Anyway, both are great vehicles but I seem to find my friends with Prius's (Priui?) seem to *enjoy* them. I've never heard of someone enjoying a Camry. It's fairly lightweight and the electric motor provides peak torque from zero RPM on, giving it a good jump off the stoplight. While it's no performance vehicle, it does provide reasonable zip and is comfortably packaged. Oddly enough, it really isn't much smaller than a Camry and provides more everyday flexibility with the hatch and folding seats. The added mileage of the Prius has a small added bonus - one of my friends commutes but only fills his tank every other month. A nice little time saver.

You do realize all the electronic gadgets in the world (past and present) have accumulated more depleted (and more enviornmentally harmful) battery cells than hybrid vehicles (past and present). I doubt hybrids will surpass other battery-using items for a while.

yeah, but it's not like you can run those electronic gadgets on gas or diesel.

So? Everyone's attacking the battery in the hybrid powertrain. What does fuel have to do with it?

Because they can resort to other options than batteries in order to save fuel. In electronics, you HAVE TO use batteries; there are no other options.
