VW has confirmed to present the a platform for a low-cost car, a real people's car, at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year in September. The rumored car shall cost below 8000 Euro without giving up the look and feel of a VW.
The car is expected to arrive in 2009.

The car at this size is selling like hot cake in India and China.
due to the population, these two country will be a gold mine for every carmaker in the near future.

as we know, people in these twos prefer a cheaper and
valuable product .then, even premium brand are aware of that and
come to join by investing in a more cheaper vehicle for the twos.

In india for instant, many world's top car maker are consider possibility
to manufacturing car there.but they won't spend the big money to invest
until the "cheaper's" car is ready. they know they need to build it in large
volume and they know the a-segment car that they're currently selling in Europe can't make price competitive in these 2 country.

What is interesting is that with the very likely chance that the EPA may impose fuel economy standards similar to the new EU standard based on CO2 output, this new model could even make it to the USA market. Given that any new car sold in Europe are subject to EuroNCAP crash testing, the new Lupo replacement won't take much to make it US legal outside of lengthening the bumpers. With NAFTA and the fact VW already makes models for the USA market at its Hermosillo, Mexico assembly line, the production cost for a US model won't be that high, either.

I wonder if this new Brazilian Gol (the car in this pic, essentially a small sedan that can directly compete with Renault's Logan) is actually the new 8000 euros VW that will be unveiled at Frankfurt this autumn, instead of the future Lupo. It sure fits the bill.
