I think the Pilot and maybe Hyundai/Kia are the real rivals. The Telluride is the best-looking, but I think the highlander interior kills it, and that's what shoppers in this segment really care about.
Most typical buyers of these things do not care
about design; they care about features, price, and practicality. To them, it looks almost the same as the old one, which sold a ton, and I bet many will love the new interior, tablet infotainment screen and all. Sales figures show that buyers prefer the Explorer and Highlander over the Pilot, so I don't see that changing. In Calendar Year 2018: Explorer sold 250, 690; Highlander sold 244, 511; Pilot trailed far behind in fourth at 159,615.
