Agreed. Also, with the addition of the Velar, I wouldn't be surprised if they merge the RR Sport and the standard RR and that's what we're actually looking at.

According to my sources we will see the full size Range Rover going up two steps in terms of perceivable luxury. Top of the line versions will then compete on eye-level with Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan - at least in terms of quality - especially in the interior. With the exterior design staying true to the successful Range Rover formula, we will see a car truly superior in terms of style compared to Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini.

Therefore, the next generation Range Rover Sport can move up one step in order to position itself between the next generation Range Rover and the Range Rover Velar. Looking at the spy shots, it seems that we will see a more mature and elegant vehicle compared to the current iteration. At the same time, the next generation will loose significant weight. Which probably will result into a car with at least the same level of handling, but with a significant upgrade in terms of comfort and luxury.

For those who so far felt that the Range Rover Sport somehow lacks certain touches of class to be considered a true Range Rover might think differently regarding the next generation.

at some point one of them should really become a proper 3 row SUV unless the Range Rover becomes a low volume G class competitor, which maybe it already is in terms of market positioning.

Not sure about that. The Range Rover starts at $90K, which, in terms of MSRP, makes it more of a GLS competitor (aside from 3-rows, of course). G-wagon starts at $130K.

In my area, the RR is more commonly seen than is the G-Wagon.

From the spy shots, this RR Sport looks pretty big, so I wouldn't surprised if Vantage's sources are correct (or unless the RR/RR Sport get merged into a single line).

With the Range Rover Sport (and the Range Rover Velar) JLR can be congratulated for establishing three of the company's four premium models as strongly differentiated brands that seem to suffer little in the way of cross-shopping.

Therefore we can rest assured that Land Rover will definitely not merge Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. It would simply mean loosing significant volume.
