2021 Jeep "Grand Cherokee XL"

Apparently a three-row crossover coming from Jeep that will slot above the Grand Cherokee, but is distinct from the upcoming Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer.

A few observations. This is clearly not the standard Grand Cherokee (even though camo and general shape look almost identical except for the rear overhang) and FCA has said they wouldn't give this the GC name ("Manley also hinted it will have a unique name as he believes the Grand Cherokee is an 'icon.' As he explained, calling the three-row model a Grand Cherokee would be similar to drastically changing the design of the Wrangler and he’d be 'crucified' if he were to do such a thing." https://www.carscoops.com/2019/03/je...inct-identity/). This is also distinct from the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer spy shots (next-gen GC and Wagoneer shots below for comparison). Further, it's also clearly not the Chinese Grand Commander. I wonder, though, if this could be the Wagoneer, whereas the Grand Wagoneer will be the truck-based model?

For comparison, clearly shorter Grand Cherokee spy shots:

Who can say. I for one am just shocked/impressed that FCA is finally testing multiple vehicles under camo at the same time. For the last few years they seemed to be able to manage only one at a time.

Looking at the first car, the supposed GC XL, are we sure that could not be a new Durango? I mean the proportions would look like one. At least, if they produce a Grand Cherokee, a cheap reskin would be a super easy way to keep the Durango around;

That said, I agree, good to see them testing a variety of models finally

Via the link, there are some shots at other angles that show a 7 slot grille behind the camo, so definitely a Jeep.

it's funny that the Mustang can be an electric SUV but the Grand Cherokee name is thought to be too sacred to be used on a stretched Grand Cherokee... would make sense that if the Durango sticks around and gets a Jeep equivalent then the standard wheelbase GC should have a Dodge variant with all the high performance versions.
