When GM's vice chairman speaks of an ultra-performance Corvette, we listen</u><p>We hear 2005 Le Mans class winner Jan Magnussen is turning faster-than-Z06 laps in the Blue Devil at Nurburgring.<p>General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz wont confirm this car exists, but he is not saying it doesnt. We first wrote about Chevrolets ultra-performance Corvettedubbed Blue Devil, most likely to catch the attention of GM CEO and Duke Blue Devil grad Rick Wagonershortly before the sixth-generation Corvette debuted at the Detroit auto show in January (AW, Dec. 22 and 29, 2004). We asked Lutz about the car during a recent exclusive interview with AutoWeek.<p>Lets just say [Corvette chief engineer] Dave Hill is not a guy who likes playing second fiddle to any high-performance car on the road, said Lutz. My guess is were going to find a way to do something beyond the Z06, that would be at a much higher price point, and which would compete with some of the leading high-performance cars of the world.<p>Lutz said the car may be delayed while the company focuses most of its engineering might on pulling ahead profit-making vehicles like its next-generation large sport/utilities and pickups.<p>But there is certainly no lack of desire on anyones part to establish the supremacy of the Corvette, says Lutz.<p>Spied on the Nurbrgring, Blue Devil appears to be living up to the earlier hype. Eyewitnesses said the car sounds supercharged, confirming reports the engine is likely a blown version of the Z06s 7.0-liter V8, producing upward of 600 hp. Look for lightweight carbon fiber body parts to reduce weight to about 2900 pounds.<p>Pricing will likely start somewhere around $100,000 if and when the car makes production in 2006.<p>Source: <A HREF="http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102690" TARGET="_blank">Autoweek</A><br></TD></TR></TABLE><BR><BR>

Hhaha ia gree whoo this thing is hot i hope they keep them rims.

Nick 06-29-2005 12:28 PM

Nice...remember this thing is just a test mule, and the rims are just Z06 rims painted black...

knihc2008 06-29-2005 12:43 PM

can't imagine paying 100k for that kind of interior, no matter how fast the car is.

Nick 06-29-2005 12:56 PM

you aren't paying for the interior...besides, there is nothing wrong with the interior...people pay upwards of 80 grand for the viper...that has a horrible interior...the C5's interior was nicer, but this isn't about the viper...the people buying this car aren't going to buy it for the looks of the interior but for the performance...that's what you pay for...

I wouldn't call the Viper's interior horrible, just minimalist. But this topic isn't about that, it's about the "blue devil" which ought to be an amazing performer. This thing should kill most supercars for cheap. It is going to be a monster that easily merits a $100,000 or greater price tag simply on performance alone. Just think, this will kill the Ford GT for about 50 grand less, and probably kill the Carrera GT for multiple hundred grand less. That is what the higher price tag is for.

No. But it will no doubt make a mark on the supercar world. (by the time this comes out, if it ever does, the GT will no longer be in production as well as the Carrera GT)
