We spy the Peugeot 107 in CT

Meet the Peugeot 107 which is due to go on sale later this year... We spied it right under our noses! Take a peek!

Our ever-eager photo editor William McIntosh spied the all-new Peugeot 107 in the Cape Town foreshore area, a block away from the Wheels24 offices in the Media24 building.
The 107 is due to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March and our photos of the little French number show that it is quite a spunky vehicle.
Very little info is yet available about the car, however, Peugeot developed it in conjunction with Citroen and Toyota. The results of this three-year joint project are three all-new mini cars, the Peugeot 107, Toyota Aygo and Citron C1.
While the three vehicles share a large number of structural components, parts and sub-assemblies they each have separate and distinct bodies that reflect the individual styles of the Peugeot, Citron and Toyota marques.
Each car measures about 3.4m long, 1.6m wide and 1.4m high. Powered by the latest generation 1-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines, these compact, fuel-efficient cars will be particularly suited to urban driving.
They will also feature advanced safety and environmental protection technologies. The cars are primarily aimed at the European market, where demand for this type of vehicle is expected to increase.
Developed on a common platform, all three cars will begin rolling off the production lines at the Toyota Peugeot Citron Automobile (TPCA) plant in Koln, Czech Republic, in 2005, in line with the development and plant construction timetable jointly announced in July 2001.

First time I see a 3 door version, looks good. Is it me or are both the front and rear arches a bit different from the 5 door? Any word if toyota and Citroen will also have 3 door versions?

It must be the sunlight that makes the wheel arches look different. I see no reason why Citroen and Toyota should not make a three-door-version. Once you have developped two body constructions, you can use them for all three marques with no additional costs.
This is the first time that we see a picture of the back of the Peugeot 107. My first thought was "how could this happen"! The backlights look like a red sticker, and the angular stance doesn't fit to the rest of the car. However, this car doesn't look as nice as a smart, but I'm sure it will sell better because of its lower price.

The huge grill reminds me of the Chevron commercials...

Uh ok - I'm just a tad confused. Whatever happened to the 1007 and is this a replacement or is this going to be sold beside it? And if it is, which is the more higher model? I'm so out of it it's ridiculous.

107 and likes are entry model cars, made to be cheap, from 8000 euros. See it as a competitor to the Renault Twingo
1007 will be marketed as a trendy, low volume niche model and will be much more expensive, probably around same price as the Renault Modus.

These interior pictures makes me excited over this car (and also C2 and Aygo) for the first time. Looks much better than the 1007. I wonder why Peugeot couldn't use these design cues instead, for the 1007. I also like the glass hatch. Too bad it couldn't go down lower into the bumper to minimize the threshold height.
Aygo so far is the winner in outside design but I wonder if Toyota will match that fat steering column instrument cluster with it's left ear appendix.

the extremely chunky rear bumper and vertically stacked lights make it look like a Smart ForFour.

And the interior even looks to have taken some inspiration from the Smart (ok, they copied it ), with the speedometer/rev counter/whatever it is above the steering wheel.
I hate the back end of this car, I loved the 106 rear lights, and the back of the 107 just doesn't seem to have any personality. It looks too weird.
The 106 GTI was an absolutely fantastic car, but can you imagine a 107 GTI with the same prescence? Can you even imagine a 107 GTI at all? I certainly can't, which is very unfortunate, because I loved the 205 GTI and the 106 GTI.

For all i've heard, it's only getting two engines anyway, the Toyota Yaris 1.0 and PSA's 1.4hdi. This is all about economy and affordability.
I know the 206 RC/GTI isn't quite the same thing as a 205 GTI ( is anything, nowadays? ) but the 1007 is having a sports version with a 140hp 1.6l engine, like the one seen in Paris. And that sounds like the one out of their cooperation with Bmw, so should be fun.
Anywho, like the back, like the interior, like the C1 better.

I hear people rave about the MK.I and II Golf GTi's, and they say no GTi can ever match the MK.1. If you compare the drives, MK.I will turn out as the clear loser to the MK.V. Maybe the 205 was a better achievment for its day, but thats not what you said, you said that the 206 wasn't as good as the 205.

I'm not saying their better cars, has when it comes to things like safety, comfort, fit and finish etc, there's not really a comparison to be made. But these are sport( y ) cars where talking about, and excitement is, or should be, a must, and i think, imo again, the new ones are lacking.
