SV, could you please tell me what kind of character the E class has? I don't mean to offend an E-class fan, but I get the feeling that mercedes has lost alot of its lustre in its current designs. My design might be a bit too american, but its going to combine some retro MB and hot rod with sedan. =) stay tuned.
BTW, SV please describe the e-class' character to me because the retro/hot rod design might not feel very e-class at all.
P.S. Plumcrazy, your design is incredible. I love the front end, but I feel the side profile might be a bit too generic. Nonetheless it definitely looks like a mercedes and it looks awesome

Here's my entry, i tried to keep things similar to the current E-class (great looking car) while still being progressive. Overall, My E-class ends up a bit larger.

i hope you like.
mr. burns, that entry looks pretty good! but may i suggest pulling the rear wheels back a bit? it looks like they might be taking a bit too much space out of the rear. otherwise, i love the front end and especially the headlights.
I designed the hood and the grill to resemble Mercedes cars from the 1930's. The low roof and the taillights lined with chrome give the car a semi-hot rod look. Please also check out the rim, brake and brake caliper detail from the rear view. My first real attempt at rim design and shading/shading.
front:

rear:

BTW, please use your imagination and pretend the side mirrors are made in chrome. Another retro touch =) The pictures are blurry cause i took them with my camera. If I had a scanner, they would be sharper, and you would see better contrast too.

I like the retro idea and understand it very well, it would also have a lot more German nfluence in the car as it looks quite bulky.

Hopefully i will be able to enter my design tommorow {Sunday}, ill kepp my fingers crossed!

you're absolutely right about the bulky look. Does take away from the sportiness Mercedes has previously put into the E class. Thanks for the input =)
EDIT: having a German design influence should be a good thing. I don't see it, but Mercedes is German, so it can't hurt. Could you tell me how it looks German?
EDIT: My grammar is horrid.

Long the best-selling and--in the opinions of many--the most striking sedan in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the timeless E-Class has been thoroughly rethought, reengineered, and revitalized for the 2008 model year.
Striking a delicate balance between muscular sportiness and the understated elegance which has for decades defined the E, the new model boasts aggressively flared and rounded fenders and a sinister face inspired by the flagship CL coupe, coupled with smooth, flowing lines which retain the E's classic sedan shape.
Pictured below is the aggressive new AMG Sport package, optional across the E-Class line. A more athletic presence is achieved by an enhanced front splitter, round foglamps, aerodynamic AMG side sills, smoked headlamp housings, dual stainless steel sport exhausts, and new AMG Monoblock-Nuovo wheels.
Carried over for the 2008 model year is the effortlessly smooth and powerful 3.5L 268hp V6 in the E350 model, while the new addition--E550--enjoys copious power reserves courtesy the S550's sophisticated 5.5L, 382hp V8. Inside, a completely redesigned cabin mimics that of the E's larger sibling: it is awash in rich woods, the finest leathers, and the highest-quality switchgear. Options will be announced as more details emerge.

Amazing coloring and drawing but the car looks a tad too small, more a C-class sized vehicle. Plus, no quad headlamps? The front looks more like C-class as well, especially the new spy shots. Also, the right side of the car seems to be a lot smaller and less tall than the left side?

I think we are viewing the car from a short distance, so the left side is actually supposed to look a little smaller than the right side. Think of what happens when you look down a long hallway.
Otherwise, another incredible entry from DoMiNo! As with your previous entries, got to love the clean look and the colour. Perhaps you could have added something to shake things up a bit, though.
EDIT: my rear view is coming out very, very well =). Everybody should check it out when i post it. It includes details such as rims, brakes, brake calipers and even shadows. By far my best work!
EDIT 2: posted! check page 1

Thanks for the comments guys.
knihc - perhaps it's the large wheels which belie the size of the vehicle. The quad headlamps are there, but in the form of dual projector beams within one housing, a la the new CL. Separate round lamps were a conscious omission; they are not what I'd call a stylistic "must"... two model generations of a car with a similar design cue do not constitute a tradition. Any resemblance to the new C is unintentional but not exactly negative... a strong family resemblance has always characterized the models in MBZ's lineup.
chinesedesigner - It was my deliberate intention to keep the design conservative. The Sport package was a way to add some flare, but I didn't want to mess with the fundamental purpose of the E-Class. It's Mercedes' bread and butter car, so it's only logical to err on the side of caution. Moreover, there are plenty of flashier models (e.g. the CLS) which cater to more ostentatious buyers.
Let's see some more entries, fellas!!

The New Mercedes-Benz E-Class
More an evolution than a revolution, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class follows the traditional E-Class shape, connecting an elegant sedan with some sporty cues. Being Mercedes' classic sedan, it will keep the divided headlamps and timeless design in the following generation and won't surprise the customers with an experimental styling.
Good luck!!!
Please comment.

At first only a sketch of the definite entry, I colored this one, too, but sadly the quality on the PC doesn't appear very good...

Modified by car-fan at 9:44 AM 7/22/2006

4 - carfan - i think narrowly my favorite entry overall, love the progressive take on the e-class theme; it still looks like an E, just a bit more daring and futuristic. great job if i had to crit one thing, it's that the perspective on the 3D drawing could use some work, but other than that, very good.
3 - plumcrazy - looks awesome; i love the slit cat-eye-ish headlamps, and that aggressive grille.
2 - domino - mouth-wateringly beautiful render as always, but the styling isn't quite to my tastes, mainly because of the headlamps (being an e-class freak i'm kinda like many porsche fanatics in that change is heresy, to overstate it a bit; so IMO e-classes need four headlamps). but that's just me nitpicking. overall, fantastic work as usual
1 - pansuke - wow, i love the design. it's really eye-catching and futuristic, very nice. perspective-wise, though, i think the car is too narrow. still, good job
great contest guys, wish i could have participated. still, i made an "entry" anyway if anyone wants to take a look at it in the design section =D
