As quoted on CanadianDriver.com:<br>"The Torrent broadens Pontiac's performance parameters by taking them in a whole new direction," said Jim Bunnell, Pontiac-GMC general manager. "It has the spirited, responsive driving traits of a performance sedan, but combines that fun-to-drive character with the capability of an SUV."<p>A simple restyle changes the character of the vehicle too? <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emwink.gif" BORDER="0">

"It has the spirited, responsive driving traits of a performance sedan"<p> Not if it has the 3.4 V6. If they want it to come anywhere near a performance sedan it will need Honda's 3.5 V6. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/1zhelp.gif" BORDER="0">

Well it's got the same 3.4 V6... you wouldn't expect radical departures in a GM rebadge, would you? :D
From the side, it's like the Kia Sportage, even the rear part looks familiar!

The only thing I like are the none riced taillights and that is it. I'll take the chevy over this. Although I like the darker interior. Hmm.

When I read a report about the Torrent I thought they specifically said that it would not be an Equinox clone, but.....its an almost exact clone. I was hoping for more.
01-05-2005, 02:33 PM
it looks alright, but i think GM would be better suited to save the money they spend on clones and use it on the weak points of existing models. i don't understand in which niche the torrent fits that the vibe and equinox haven't already filled.

If only they had put the Honda V6 that resides in the Vue Redline in the Torrent instead of the Chinese-built junklog, all the bad clone stuff would have been forgotten.<p>And the interior comes in 47 shades of grey. As to be expected in a GM these days.

Wake me up when they release the GMC version with either the honda v6 or a diesel with a true 4wd system with low range. <p>Thanks!

I'll take the Equinox over this. While this is definantly better than the Aztek it just isn't distinctive enough from the Equinox. Give it the 3.9 v6 a more distinctive front and rear end and a different interior with some specific different options.

At least its in line with other current Pontiacs and free of cladding.

No complaints here. I take this over the Asstek. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0">

I can see that GM put in a lot of effort in making this car.

This car looks a lot like the sketch that was supposed to be the next Daewoo (now Chevrolet) SUV.<p>@ndreas

Was the Torrent already in the works when GM discussed the hault of brand copies, such as the Torrent and Equinox, and Trailblazer, Envoy, 9-7x, etc.???
09-20-2005, 04:05 PM
Chevy must be pissed. It doesn't look as though Pontiac did much of anything to differentiate this from the Equinox. Shame.
