Stick to you wife. She's your future whilst your mother is your past, no matter how much you love her. Think that your mother cannot do anything about you being her son; on the other hand....your wife can do A LOT about you being her husband. <p>They doesn't have to be friends anyway. Just live your life with your wife and don't let your mother to start messin' around.

Tell your mother to back off and but out of your personal family business. feel free to give advice and/or intervene when such is requested. otherwise, learn how to be a friend.

I guess just be happy your mom isn't Italian, or Jewish...

a similar thing happens in my house, though I wouldn't use hate to describe their relationship (definitely "on-guard" though). The funny thing is that my relationship with my in-laws and her relationship with my dad and my step-dad are friendly and effortless.

Always respect yo mama. But never let her get inbetween you and your wife. I've seen many relationships being split up when the mother gets her nose into things she shouldn't. Dunno? Might be cuz she's been lookin out for you so long, she thinks she protecting you? Or gelousy maybe? sh** happens man. Just do what you think is best.<p>:)

Im in a similar situation except its my mother in law who hates me. So of course i go out of my way to piss her off with kindness. I send her cards on most holidays and take her lunch every once in awhile. I like to pretend were best friends and she just hates it. She also hates the fact that i drive her sons car, even tho my name is on the title its not financed in my name, so i have to park so she can see what im driving.<br>AH! life is good. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/laugh2.gif" BORDER="0">

Well, my girlfreinds mum HATES me! And my mum isnt to keen on my girlfriend. But if i had to choose, id pick my mummy. I love her so much. She just bought me TONS of CD's!!!!! Dont get me wrong, i love my g/f, but my mum is the one who went through the pain to have me. Laguna, just make it clear that you dont like the situation (authority can be good). Tell them they can hate each otha (each at different times), but not to arguee or fight in ur presence, or each other presence. Tell them to keep their grudges to em selves!!!

Young guys tend to select their mother, while grown up men prefer their wife......<p>My mother-in-law was always trying to put her nose on our family business, until i told her to go and fix her marriage first. From that moment on, everythink went like silk!!! She hates me but she will stay away, and that's what i wanted.

I know it sounds brutally, but your girlfriend is your future, but mum is past, no matter how much you love her.<br>Maybe you should move away from your mummy for a while, and tell her, that you love her very much, but you can't stand this conflict, and you're moving away. Maybe your mum will realise everything and will begin accepting your g/f.<br>Oh, another idea: You can tell her also, that she doens't have to LIKE your g/f, she should only just accept her.

Ithink you all have good advice, but there is one little thing that hasn't been said. whatever you do, make sure that you speak clearly and the choice you make puts an end to the bickering once and for all. The absolute worst thing you can do is try to apeace both sides by trying to find a way to give both of them what they want. It will only cause problems to fester and eventually they will blow up in your face. Strap on the huevos and say what needs to be said. Make your decision, make sure it's understood, and then stand by it...<p>... Oh and makesure your decision is not at your wife's expense. Don't forget, Lorena Bobitt was someone's wife too.

Apparently Thailand is the 'bobbitting' capital of the world.<p>"So many Thai women have started cutting off their unfaithful husband's kazoos that doctors issued guidelines in July urging vulnerable men to establish contingency plans in case it happens to them."<p>Yikes. At least your mother is very unlikely to chop off yer bits.

Amen say it again! A mother who disrespects her son's wife is disrespecting her son. Mother does not have to like anyone on the planet, but if her son has chosen a wife, mom has an obligation to get along. It is not her life nor her marriage. Mom needs to be told point blank: you are locked out of all contact unless and until you can behave in a kind or at least neutral manner to the wife. Psychologically, the mother "owns" her son and cannot allow another woman to "own" him.
