Well, I got the ****tiest Valentines Day gift ever. My girlfreind just broke up with me, and now I'm in depression. I have already been in depression awhile, and this just adds to it.

I will try to talk to this girl at school who's been eying me, tomorrow at lunch. sorry to hear that ricerammer...I can understand where you're coming from...I have never had a girlfriend...never been kissed, dont really even know any girls...and I am 18 and getting ready to graduate...so as you can imagine, I am somewhat depressed also...Valentines day is just another rediculous holiday fabricated by the greeting card industry to make you believe you have to spend more money...

yea, I mean, it's not like I am a bad looking guy...last year at this time I weighed in at a fatass 250 lbs...3 months later I was down 70lbs to 180...I am still 180 and have been working out and getting toned up since then...so I wouldnt consider myself bad looking...the main problem I have is self confidence of which I have none of, seriously, if the hottest chick on the planet were to walk up to me right now and ask me to have sex with her, or even kiss her for that matter, I probably wouldn't be able to do it...that's how much confidence I have (or the lack there of anyways)...but whatever...

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that Nick, about your self-esteem. I once had really low self-esteem at one time - I personall don't know how I got over, but still, it's always good to know you can get over it mate.
Anyway, whats 180lbs in the metric system?

Nick
02-14-2005, 12:13 AM
well, I am 6 (1.829 meters) feet tall and have a pretty large bone structure, so the 180 suits me very well but converted to kilograms 180lbs = 81.647 kilograms

That's actually a fairly good figure, but it really depends if all the weight is fat or muscle. That's not even overweight (IMO). My friend is like 5'11 and about the same weight as you, and he has a girlfriend currently. So don't lose hope mate, just be confident abot yourself!

Nick
02-14-2005, 12:22 AM
believe me, my body fat percentage is low...I started out a 36% last year...I am now down in between 10% and 15%...thats why I have maintained my weight throughout all the working out that I do...mostly because I lose a lot of fat and muscle takes over...

Well, Nick, maybe that's not a reason. Maybe your lack of popularity is caused by your shyness or something.
And, talking about Valentines day, I totally agree with

Quote, originally posted by Nick »

Valentines day is just another rediculous holiday fabricated by the greeting card industry to make you believe you have to spend more money...

Yes, it's f**ing commercial day and it has nothing of being a romantical time for couple of people. If you really love each other, you don't need any Valentines day to celebrate it.

Nick
02-14-2005, 03:27 AM
well, yes, that is a major reason actually...I am not the most popular guy...I keep to myself mostly...I never talk in school...(infact I don't even go to school physically anymore) I do independandt study due to my depression so I dont see people too much...people are pretty much the cause of, and solution to my problems...its a catch 22

That cult to popularity is one of the things i despise the most in the USA culture. And Nick, be confident that eventually it will happen. First time i was with a girl was when i was 19. Before that i had never even kissed a girl. Now she's my wife.........
Sometimes you tend to think that your last train is escaping, but it's not like that. You are very young, and i know people finding their perfect pair well into their 30-something. Just be patient and try to enjoy your life as it is. And please, don't pay the minimum attention to that 'popularity' bull****, it will drive you insane. It is only a shiny dream with no real contents. Think about the most popular guy in your school. Do you think he has REAL friends to count on? Or just people wanting to share part of his popularity? It usually turns to be that the most popular people is the less valuable people.
Like i said, just try to enjoy your life....

That's not cool anymore.

So what's wrong with that...don't be someone that people wants you to be, it's all fake on the outside...be yourself.
I know this is a day where a lot of people might get depressed b/c they don't have a valentine, well as someone said it already this is just a holiday about cards, cholocates and flower, that ain't love...that's just for us consumers to spend tons of money, and for the comapnies to profit...big deal
Since I've been through it all, I though I might offer some advice, and hopefully it will help. As far as this popular thing, it's totally a "high school" thing. When I was in high school (that was such a long time ago), I hung out with everyone, I didn't care whether they were popular or not, as long as they are good people and like to have a good time
Trust me, when many of you move on to college or "real life", you are going to find out your friends, your acquistance, your co-workers are going to like you and/or be friends with you, not b/c of how popular you are, but who you are. You ask yourself why girls only go for popular kids and jocks, don't blame yourself, it's just that everyone want to be "popular", these aren't relationships, they are ficitious for people to be popular, goes back to the whole popular and high school thing.
For me, I am so busy with work that I don't even have time to my g/f...even when I do have time I spend most of them with all my friends, not that i don't want to spend time with my gf i just think friends are more improtant than gfs.
here is my order of importance
family
friends
girlfriends
Girlfriends come last b/c they can always be replaced; family is always going to be there, nothing you can do about it but I value friends the most, they are always going to be there for you, your girlfriend ain't.
I sincerely feel sorry to those that are currently depressed about their life, all I can say is that don't be, don't feel sorry sorry for yourself. Just keep doing what you do, don't worry about others and how they react, you can't control them. Thing happen for a reason and you just gotta go with the flow. Cheer up people, think of today is just another day, I didn't get my g/f (of 5 yrs) anything - someone spent $100 on flowers and candy - that's not love, I am making a romantic dinner for her

Ricerammer: I'm JUST like you in several ways. In personality and even in depressing times. After having my fair share of breakups (and one girl came out of the closet right after dating me... that's depressing on soooo many fronts) I met my wife. We were "friends" for about two years before we noticed each other and began dating our senior yewar of college and 12 years later are still very happy together, for the most part. the last year has been trying though. Ultimately, You'll find someone in the end who you will be very happy with. You'll find that your true friends will be like you, and will stay with you through the hardest of times, and transitions such as High School to college, college to real life, and many of the other happy moments in your life. Life isn't a popularity contest, and the most popular don't have it all later, the most down to earth people who wake up and realize what they need to do haveeverything later.
You'll be fine, you'll pull through this and come out the other side knowing a bit more about yourself, and who your friends really are.
Happy Valentine's day, go hug your Mom and Dad, and be glad you didn't do what my daughter did to me this morning and end up in the hospital for four hours

a few things I'd like to point out to you:

Quote, originally posted by Hornbag_1 »

Im i the only person here who think being popular is great? OMG, if i wasnt popular, i think i would cry! LOL. I could imagine life without tons of friends to back me up...

First, you contradicted yourself, if you have no friends, how does that make you popular? I am not saying having friends make you popular, it's just that you can't be popular without other people think you are...notice the keyword there, think...
Second, how old are you again, was it 16? You are still young and immature, soon or later, you will find out what it means to be popular. At least I know being popular is two completely different things in high school and in real life.

Quote, originally posted by Hornbag_1 »

I could imagine life without tons of friends to back me up...

My point being if your gf leaves you, and you don't have friends, who you gonna turn to for help and guidance. In your case, who's gonna tell you that you are popular.
Like I said, my view is simple, who cares about what other people think, if they tell me to jump off a bridge, do you think I would? In high school, everybody was a follower and i set my own trends (no i was not an outcast, i was actually considered to be one of the nicest and popular kids in school, in the middle, actually - not becuase I act to be popular, b/c I act to be and for MYSELF).
You do things for your own benefits, not for others, and I just think a lot of people still aren't getting the concept; showing off and spending lots of hard earned cash, or parents' money to please other people are just downright stupid

Well, since this has basically turned into a popularity debate, I will say that I am known my most people, and they consider me to be kind and funny. I'm not in the 'cool' group, but I really wouldn't give a duck's fart if I was in it or not. I am also not really a 'loser', but more in the middle. I have 4 very good friends, all of which are boys. I'm not embarrased when with girls and I can easily talk to them. But really, I could certainly live without the company of my friends, no matter how much that would disappoint me.
Hornbag, how many people are there in your school? And are you one of those people who can't do anything if your alone and always need someone to back you up? I'm just curious, because I have met a lot of people like that.
