i was driving home around 8pm today dropping a friend off in booton twp. nj, going about 30 miles an hour, a deer jumps out of the woods and hits my car.....my car which i JUST bought in november my 2002 mazda tribute...... i pull over realize i can't open my driver side door, the driver side fender and door need to be fixed and my headlight is broken and i'm gonna need a new bumper....oh and by the way i was so pissed off i didn't even bother to see if the deer even survived, i used to have respect for those animals......its not like i was driving recklessly either, it was a dark road i couldn't have my hi beams on because there were cars in front of me (which kept on going but thats besides the point) i'm gonna call my insurance company tommorow, there are actually pieces of deer hair stuck in my bumper.....

Sorry about your luck. I'm in northern NJ so we don't see a lot of deer. But I always carry my double gauge rifle just in case.

That's really unlucky - what are the chances of having a deer run out and you hitting it? Well, my family had a similar accident, but with a bird - we had a claw and feathers stuck in our front bumper.

first day of driving I hit a bird...wedged in the grill...I have also hit a pidgeon at about 60....hit the windshield and kinda bounced off...I think it actually survived...about 15 minutes ago a bunny ran in front of my car and I almost hit it...but I didnt...

hehe. my best was the Coyote that ran out in front of me on the freeway and sat down... I was in the Sentra at the time so I probably woulda been killed by that thing (actually, that car was later rolled and we decided it was a miracle I was extracted from its wreckage alive) I swerved around him and he decided to run back after that.
I've come close to deer before, driving through the mountains had a young one go flying across the street about 100-75 feet up, I didn't even have time to slam on the brakes, but it was across the street by the time I was where I would have hit it. That was in the Maxima, so I would have been fine, but not the car.
Other times... I hit a duck on the freeway once, don't know if it lived or died but needed to bu new wndhsield wipers and a mirror. have had my fair share of straddling rodents, nearly jitting birds, and the always fun: hitting roadkill an splatering blood all over your car
ugh

I'm glad you're ok, hope the dear is too but it probably isn't. cars can be repaired.

Yea the deer ran into the car and ran off. It took the insurance guy a while to understand what happened. It was a Nissan Quest so i guess we learned about the good side crash rating the hard way since i was sitting in the side the deer ran into

my dad hit a racoon in his minivan when i was with him once. he had to keep going, but i looked behind us to see what happened. seems it missed the tires, but got its head knocked on the rear axle which is the lowest part of the undercarriage on that van. it rolled over about six times. i saw it get up and start to walk off the road only to be crushed by the wheel of a sedan behind us.

i had a few close calls with animals but never any accidents with them, never accidents with anything for that matter, or tickets, I considered myself to be very lucky (i said something similar in another thread, I believe)
The few close calls was avoided because my lights and/or safety features.
On the car i gave to my mom, comes factory installed with xenon lights, ABS, traction control system, ESP and i have pretty advanced lights too, plus fog lights, also ABS, TCS, ESP, etc, it's a 04 model after all but nothing like xenon lights though...i just love them.
sorry to hear about the incident...i hope everything gets resolved soon...at least as fast as possible

About two weeks after my grandparents got their new Buick a deer ran into the rear driver side door and left a huge dent. My grandpa opened the door and shut it and the dent popped right out. When I say dent I mean the whole door panel was pushed in.
A dove hit my windshield this summer at 60mph. It scared the s**t out of me cause I didn't know what it was. I just looked in my rear view and saw it go splat on the pavement. It didn't fly away...

Where I live in TN we have alot of deer. They are becomming a nusance. This year we have had an increase in deer related accidents. I've had one encounter with a deer and was lucky that neither the car or the deer was damaged.
