i recently opened a current account with Abbey (formally known as Abbey National). They sent me a VISA ELECTRON DEBIT CARD. This card seems to be totally useless everywhere i try to use it. Hardly nobody accepts the damn thing. So all i've been doing is taking money out of the ATMs.
Does anyone else use this type of card? wherever in the world you are.

are you sure? A debit card works almost exactly like a credit card, except it takes the money straight from your checking account. Especially for those that can't pay their credit card (owed amounts) on time, the debit card is a lot better. You know how much money you have left so you wouldn't usually go over limit, and you wouldn't accmulate debt since there are no moeny $$$ left for you to spent.
If your card has a VISA logo on it, then it should be accepted worldwide (where you see a VISA logo). If that doesn't work, may i suggest you get a card that works (maybe at a larger bank or investment institution)

its not a full Visa debit card, and it the bottom corner it has an Visa Electron logo, i thought it would work as a usual Visa debit card, but most retailers dont seem to accept Electron. Also, on the card, the numbers are engraved, they dont pop-up like other cards.
im gona call them up and ask to upgrade to a Visa card

I bank with Bank of America. It's free and the VISA Platinum Check Card always woks. I can check my account online which is really useful.
I had to replace it once and it cost around 30 bucks
Credit cards are a waste of money.

credit cards aint my thing...from what I can see the only thing they do is cause problems for people...my parents dont seem to have a single credit card...My parents use CitiBank, I use Union Bank of California, but I dont really like it so much so I may switch over to CitiBank with my parents or go wells fargo or something...

I use a CITIbank Debit card. Like most of you, I avoid the credit card, but I do have a credit option on my card. Mine can be used at mastercard machines as well as
Maestro
Star
NYCE
Cirrus
I have not faound a place which does not accept my card

my Visa Electron card is accepeted at all atm's, but hardly in any stores :(
i've done a lot of research no the type of card i have, and it seems i am part of a majority of people who also cant pay for goods in many retail stores.
You would expect visa to have made a card that could be accepted everywhere, as they already have cards which are, but this silly "electron" isnt.
