I bought a brand new Xbox 2 weeks ago (i also have a PS2 for a long time) and on Sunday when i was playing Burnout 3 sudenly the screen froze and i started to hear a strange noise from the XBox interior (from the hard disk probably). I had to reset it and since then when i turn it on after the X box logo appears a message on the screen which says that i should contact customer care. :
All i have to say is that Microsoft sucks.

I called customer care again this afternoon and they finally told me to get it back to the store where i bought it cause it was faulty and they are going to replace it for free.
Anyway i wouldn't expect a brand new device to have a problem after only 2 weeks.

xboxes are supposed to be good for modding

well Yannis that's some hard luck
anyway about the subject, the Xbox is built pretty much like a PC unlike the PS2
it is centered around a P3 processor and has much like a regular VGA, ram etc
i have a friend who has had one for a pretty long time and no probs whatsoever, stillstuf like that can happen and you are lucky with your customer support

think it had an older GeForce graphics card, the Xbox 2 should have some Radeon ( since Radeon kicks ass )

It would be a lot easier to mod if the set-up was more PC-like. I opened mine up after it broke. Fixed it eventually, but the thing is one big chip. Everything is fused together

most popular mod allows you to read burned dvds on the x-box; looks like they were snuffing it out

actually, I do have a modded xbox, its got a mod chip in it and an upgraded 300 gig hard drive, the mod chip pretty much allows you to burn anything and play anything through the built in OS, from movies, to pictures, to music, I even have ps2, gamecube, and atari games on there as well as xbox titles...at the moment i have about 80 xbox titles on my box...there was a scare for a little while about microsoft banning accounts, but luckily I have found a way around that

Mine's holdin up fine after about...2 or so years? But I guess that's due to the fact that I haven't played it in about a year.

Well, I've got 2 working Xbox's now.
My old one stopped working the day I got Halo 2. I called Microsoft, they told me it was unfixable. So I bought the new xbox, and since the warranty on the old one was void, I decided to open it up. IT was dusty as hell inside. I blew all of the dust out with a little airgun thing, put it back together, and it worked. I gave the old one to my little brother

I have a new style PS2 and its great. First game that me and my younger brother got was GTA san andreas and later eye toy. In the After Christmas sales we picked up games ranging from 17 bucks to 5 bucks at Big W. Some of the titles we got were Prince Persia, Max Payne, Blood Rayne, XIII, evil dead a fist full of boomsticks, splinter cell and more. I am so happy. The cheapest we would get these games for new from EB would be a $45-$50 bucks a piece.

I heard that when XBOX first came out you couldn't play it for like 5 hours straight because then it would start to heat up and I think the smell of smoke would come from the machine. Microsoft afterwards installed a fan it in...is any of this true?
