Tell us, what is your best experience with that popular humble root?<p>Mine is actually a combination of two. It was at a russian place in manhattan. A small fried potato pancake (like a latke but bit-sized), with sour cream and caviar, followed by a shot of ice cold potato vodka. Very nice indeed.<p>So what's your best potato experience (eating, drinking or otherwise)?

So, having just put in some cut up potatoes a few times before and smeared some butter on them and drizzled them with olive oil, this time I tried something different.<p>Got some more thinly sliced potatoes, and then melted some butter, and added finely chopped garlic and mixed herbs to it. Then also added some olive oil; and put it in an ice cream box with the potato pieces. Shook it up, and voila, the potato pieces were all covered. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>Put them in the oven for around 45 minutes at maybe 250 Celsius, and they turned out great - crispy on the edges, and kinda fluffy in the middle, but not too mushy. They smelt great, the mixed herbs and garlic makes a wonderful aroma. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/icondrool.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>But next time I'll remember to turn them once, since the bottom of the pieces were still non-crispy.<p>Anyhow, pretty tame, but the 'best experience' part came with the satisfaction of cooking my own potatoes and having them come out (pretty much) the way I intended. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0">

About a month ago I was trying to making chips. I was stupid enough to start heating the oil while I cut the potatoes. I found a bad spot in one and it took me a while to cut around it. Needless to say, the oil caught on fire by this time. Although it was easy enough to put out by covering it, buring oil likes to make a lot of smoke. After about five minutes of praying it would go out the window, the fire alarms went off, and the building, which houses around 250 people, was evacuated. Now, being as this was around one in the morning, lets just say I wasn't too popular.<p>Best potatoes I've had were at a place called Kraut and Bulgar in Berlin. Little baby potatoes, whole, in a cheese sauce with bacon. Man those were good.

my best potatoes thing are well-prepeared potatoes for dinner and nothing else. good amount of salt and another spices and i'm in heaven<br>i'm not too demanding as you see <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emwink.gif" BORDER="0">
