hey, i was wondering, why don't you make your own made-up brand like my montgomery group and knihc2008's JC? i think that would be awesome, it would be interesting to see what you would do with a family look and whatnot, although i know you're busy with college and stuff too...

your Mitsu concept looks like it took influence from the new Mustang. Is that so? Also your Dodge Runabout sorta looks like a Caliber except a bit better. Great job dude!

I envisioned it from the start as an import competitor to the American Muscle car
As for the Runabout, the inspiration was probably Caliber... I think I drew it after seeing the concept, and I recall wanting to make the design more "car-like" while maintaining the ride height. It ended up a little cartoonish, but I'm nevertheless kind of fond of it... especially the name, which I may recycle.
Thanks for the comments man

I love em. Great idea for the Mitsu stang fighter. I think yours looks better than the current Eclipse. The Caliber concept looked a bit better than the poduction one, but yours nailed it right on. I just saw the G4 now, and I love it. Somehow the front end looks right on it. G6 looks really, somewhat bland IMHO, and it would be interesting to see a Solstice front end and GPesque taillights on a G6. IDK though. Your Monarch convertible look a cross between Eclipse (grille/valance) and MX/5 but I really like. This is how the MX/5 shoulda looked IMHO. Keep up the awesome work.

All your designs are drawn spectaculary. You have amazing skills.

I prefer the un-photoshopped designs, they look more natural.

Got a request for you... could you do one of your designs worse? I mean, draw one - but not as well? I want to see if i'm still amazed with your designs even if they aren't a polished if you know what I mean. You see, I think the problem with my designs is that my ideas aren't coming through like they should because I haven't got the skill to put down on paper what i'm trying to do with some of my lines, whereas with your designs, I can't help but be impressed because of the excellent skill, presentation, render e.t.c.

But anyway, yeah, amazing work DoMiNo. Keep 'em coming!

I know you did this a while ago, but I really like this one.

I like the resurection of the classic bel air nameplate, and the incorperation of the old Chevy 'V' symbol.

Also love the swoopy line under the windows (you beat Renault to that one lol) and as always, the render and presentation is top notch.

swizzle and PRODIGY -

thanks for the comments, much appreciated :) Especially since the threads for a few of the designs mentioned seemed to "fall flat" when originally posted. Thanks for revisiting them!

PRODIGY - is it rough sketches you want to see? I've got plenty of those, to be sure; I haven't gotten around to posting many (say, in the Sketchbook thread) because whenever I get the chance to draw I typically like to end up with a "finished product," for better or worse. And moreover, if I sketch something and end up really liking it, I try to just take it all the way. So a lot of the rough stuff I'm not as proud of. But I will try and post some of my initial idea sketches when I get a chance.

I go through periods where I just accumulate piles of sketches; I don't like each in its entirety but I keep them around because there are elements from each design I want to remember and incorporate into future sketches. So a lot of my ideas are very unfinished.

Yeah I guess it would be cool to see your rough sketches and doodles. You seem to have a god like ability with pencils/pens/markers/crayons and photoshop and it would be nice to see some rough work or even drawings where you've messed up just so we know that you are infact human lol. Needless to say though, I bet i'll still be impressed when I see these rougher sketches!

wow, man i was just going through and your line work is where i need to be right now, its mind boggling how ima get there from where im at...

but very good work, inspiring

You are getting better and better, dude. You've always had a unique and very expressive style that more often than not enhances the presentation of your designs. If you want to clean it up a bit, just slow down. One question: do you always sketch in pen, or do you have some quick pencil sketches as well? I only ask because all of your sketches I can recall have been pen.

Yeah I have some Pencil sketches, but I mostly sketch in pen (mainly blue for the moment) because its easier for me to see, and it brightens the paper itself. This is wierd I know, but the Pen makes the paper "brighter" through my eyes. Pencil often dims the paper, and that makes the sketch hard to see and unattractive. Pens imo also submit more and offer more control, the ink reduces friction, but this depends on the paper I'm using. If its a rough paper I'll use pen (this is the only paper I've had over the last few months), if it's a smooth surface I'll use pencil, because the pen will get too fast and I won't be able to control it.

I'm pretty anal about my mediums.

But okay, I'll have to work on patience and slowing down.
Thanks.

Yeah, I totally understand where you're coming from; the visual impact of ink, and the control that it affords can yield really great results. What I was going to suggest is that, if you want a more polished sketch, maybe you do the rough work in pencil--which will allow you to hash out the basic proportions and smooth out your lines to get them exactly how you want them--before going over it in pen. Then, if you want, you can erase the pencil underlaying the ink and continue using pen to fill in the small details.

I'll think I'll try that...

Thank you, MGR! :grintoothless: No secret, really, just a lot of practice and observation. I've found that perhaps the biggest contributor to my personal improvement is this forum; nothing like a jury of peers to help you improve. When I look back to my first drawings I posted in this thread and compare them to my most recent, it's obvious that the feedback I've gotten from others here has really helped me.

Again, I appreciate your kind words; if I can help with anything specifically feel free to let me know.

I must say, you could easily be the most talanted designer on this forum! But it's also difficult to address this opinion, since i haven't really seen everyone's designs on here. I really admire your work. You have excellent visions, excellent sketching techniques and excellent photoshop techniques and when it all comes together, the results blows me away. Are you a design student of some sort?

Haha, thank you tdi! Rest assured there are plenty of designers better than me on this forum ;) But I appreciate your kind words all the same, and am glad you enjoy the designs!

I'm not a design student, unfortunately. Simply a novice!

If I may Domino, I have one criticism of your photoshop technique. Though it's rather insignificant, I think you over use the thin white lines as highlights (i.e. pen tool - stroke path with small white brush to define edges). In some of your renderings (i.e. Your Silvia and Abante) the black lines in the sketches are replaced with white ones in the form of highlights, and they become a little too dominating. A suggestion would be to either use the stroke path - simulate pressure, or to use a large eraser at 0% to gently erase the edges of the white highlights. The best method for defining edges would be to use a lighter shade of the color of your car as the paint color when you stroke the path, instead of white. Or you can reduce the opacity of the layer you used for the highlights to make them less striking.

Obeying the 1-2-3 rule for light and dark would help as well. For example you can create a new layer, and roughly paint the side of your car black or dark grey in that layer. You can then lower the opacity of that layer and it would allow your side to appear slightly darker than the top of your car (hood, windshield, roof), as it would be in reality.

Also I think if you raise the reflection horizon higher to near 1/2 of your car body, it will not only look better but also make for an easier rendering job!

anyways just a thought :)

Thanks for the suggestions Burns, I will try to implement them in my upcoming renders :) Unfortunately I've nearly finished my next design so I won't be able to make many changes but rest assured I will take your advice. I too notice that some of the highlight lines stand out way too much, especially on my darker-colored cars. I already use the "simulate pressure" option.

Thanks for the pointers.

Wow, thanks dreamersmystique, I appreciate your comments!! I'm certainly not a designer--far from it, in fact--I just draw ("design" may be too strong a term) as a hobby.

As an aside, I know I haven't posted any work in a while; I've been incredibly busy lately but I do have a few ideas in the works that I hope I can find the time to render and post in the near future :)

Hey yourself! Long time no see :P

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Unfortunately I don't have the time to devote to it that I once did, so my improvement seems to be stalling, in a way, but I try to keep it up.

You should update YOUR gallery for once :) Are you still in school?
