This is the Venom, mid engined supercar thats had an ongoing development since 1994, this is a 2002 design. The main aim with this was to make it apear sleeker and less bulky than its predecessors

This is the 2000 version, basically just an modernised version of the 1996 car

By 1996 the design had been standardised

This idea in 1994 (drawn in a german lesson) was to be an F1 car for the road, the only relic of this is the part open front wheel which is still on the modern design.

This is a different design altogether, was supposed to be a supercar that sits on the footprint of a supermini... Good to see how your skills improved through the years. You're one of the few here who have tackled a super-mini, and I think that your ideas about that size-class are really refreshing.

10-23-2005, 11:33 PM
Thanks, OK here's some more.. In keeping with the superminis
This is a sketch I did this year for my new Escape (By the way I do design cars for real manufacturers but found out a long time back it was easier to organise my thoughts this way)

This is the Miranda, designed in 2003 it's a large supermini, just under 4m in length (not far off the new Grande Punto) There's no 3dr as that market is to be filled with the Escape though with Americans buying more and more cars this size I may style a 4dr saloon. There's also a coupe/convertible model (sorry about the quality, i lost all my work off the computer so this was scanned in) with a 6 piece folding roof to allow for decent luggage space and foldin rear seats that when down create an extended rear deck to give the appearance of a mid engined sports car

Then the Escape, designed in 1995 (with a convertible model in the beginning of 1997) it was an extensive supermini range with small sallon estate and van. Also in the picture is a possible replacement I never pursued from 2000

This is the Idas C, it's a 2005 touring Coupe based on my family sized saloon (the Idas) front and back are slightly different proportions for comparative reasons, the front picture has some different detailing on the side which I might develop in future designs

Here's the Idas, designed in 2002 (also pictured is the refreshed 2005 version) it's a Saloon and Estate with transatlantic sales in mind... to compete with Mondeo/Vectra/407 as well as the Fusion/Impala etc.. Its sits at slightly longer than the Vectra 4dr but shorter than the Vectra Estate

These are ideas for a new car of this size from around 2000/2001. wow, nice. are these all from your brand? most of them seem to have the same corporate grille...you've got an impressively large range
i love how you managed to incorporate basic styling themes from the previous generations of the venom into the 2002 model, making the design instantly identifiable as a venom while looking new and fresh...great work

1997 off roader, its a 2005 revision though as the original was a little bit conservative. It was designed with a friend of mine who insisted on Off Roader should look like its from 1990.
Anyway, has new front and rear lights, new grille and front bumper, new upper dash moulding and swithgear though the lower part of the dash, the door trim and the glove compartments are all the same as the original

This is another brand, my first one and older than Lokar.
The top car is actually ased on one of my earliest deisngs (from 1988) but brought up to date (or at least up to date in 1997), the hatch below it is a rebodied Twirl and is from 1996, the 3 and 5 series sized saloons at the bottom were from 2000/2001 and a little half hearted but indended to fill the void between the smaller cars and the luxury saloon at the top of the range (picture will follow when i find one)

Wow man, sorry I missed this thread all this time somehow...
Wow man, those are really good designs, and other than a few perspective bugs on some of them (read stuff like camber on the wheels and such) It is really amazing work, incredibly good.
Also keep an eye on proportions, it looks like some of your creations could use slightly larger lights or wheels, but this is just minimal really. Again great job, keep at it!

11-20-2005, 07:05 AM
Thanks, i know proportions have never been my strong point but its something you constantly improve on as you go... About the size of lights and wheels I know i've not really followed the trend for large lights, though some of my more recent designs have... And with the wheels, some of the cars drawn are either quite old or basic models, so have fairly standard size wheels.... comments taken in though and I shall see what I can do
Thanks

Reliant
Now, as sure you know Reliant was a Tamworth manufacturer best known for the Scimitar and various 3 wheelers..
They went into receivership in 1994 so I decided to design a "new" reliant, something I kept on doing, so here is the modern range... Fairly basic but modern cars with options of 4WD (I know, ironic) and scuff plates etc, designed with eastern european/developing countries in mind, as well as Western Europe.. wow, that's a huge range...must be tons of work managing them all, lol...montgomery's range, even with avioli and shannon, is only about 1/4 that size at the most, probably more like 1/5...interesting that you have a more budget-oriented mass-market brand and a more upscale mass-market brand; originally montgomery was going to make more upscale cars, like VW, and campbell (a company my friend made up, bought by montgomery group 4 or 5 years ago), which was french, would occupy a spot similar to where skoda is in the VW empire...but i decided it would be too much work, and canned campbell (officially it was losing too much money so montgomery shut it down )

Your proportions seem to be be near perfect to me, except perhaps in the 4X4s which seem a bit low - like wagons. Ish. So props for the improvement in proportions. Spot on. Good perspective sense too.
Now, Linework. Great detail and all, but you suffer from the same as I do. You're not freeing up your hand enough. Your linework should be a quick line that goes from a to B and then slowly fades away, past the point you need it to. Just loosen it up a little, make it a bit more sketchy, less detailed. Its easy to say, but Its hard to do! I know because I suffer from exactly the same problem.
The other thing is, Try to define your most important lines a little bit harder. For example, the outline of the car will always be stronger than all the crease lines and so on. It just helps the design really pick up from the page.
Wheels are an awesome effort, top stuff. They're a tad squiggly, but this is tracing back to freeing up your hand as you draw.
To improve from here, just think about the contrast of a really good sketch, and try to apply what you see. Its all on one level in your drawings, and even in your photoshops. You need things that stand out a little more, something to be the focus of your attention (that is, the viewers).
Top effort mate, and please do keep it up!
Loving some of the details, and I believe you're particularly good with superminis, hatchbacks and other smaller products. Four wheel drives and large sedans still sort of overwhelm you a little as you draw them - nothing a bit of practice can't fix.
Great job, once again, and congrats, because you've honestly come a very, very long way and I see that it comes naturally for you.
Top job, keep it up!
- Super -

Thanks, great comments guys.. I agree that I'm better at proportioning smaller cars, as for SUVs etc, most of them are either quite low or just plain old, something that needs addressing soon. Thanks for the criticisms, something i'll be taking on board (or at least tryin, as most of them I already know).. but as ya know, sometimes takes time to change.
Hopefully be making some improvements over the next few months
Nath

I wish I can draw like you guys. I have to post some of mine up. A lot of my past drawings (Porsche Turin, Hyundai Sonata) drawings were accidentally thrown away.

That's What Happened to that AvivA I previewed.

It was thrown away.

OK OK, has been a long time but I plan on getting some newer stuff here soonish, some of the links on this have gone anyway, very irritating as at least one of them I have lost the original...
Think it's sat in a guitar case now in the possesion of Paul King, ex manager of Level 42 and Dire Straits... the B*astard

That happened to me when I used Imageshack. The links should come back after a while. I recommend Photobucket.
I just skimmed through the whole gallery... great stuff. Brilliant designs and superb variety. :)

Cheers, planning on making everything a little less confusing, over the last few years it all seems to have taken a bit of a life of its own....
Have next years new Escape supermini shown in a another thread in the automotive design section

Hopefully refresh this soon, with up to date lineup.
Though the original posts are about '07 so any links still working, there's half a chance that they show a still current car, though there has been a few major changes
