Maybe It's going to get the 3.8 L lambda engine.

I tmight get that engine, but I don't know if Hyundai will let them have until the new Santa Fe has been out for a while. THen again, the SPortage and Tucson are powertrain clones.

what's the timeline on this car? Will it release early or late 06? Perhaps that might give us a good leadway as to what engine will be added with the facelift/redesign

Doesn't it currently share engines with the Sedona? ... if it does it probably will get the new Sedona engine. I don't see why it wouldn't.

Cool. 3.8-L Lambda will be added when the facelift arrives; it'll also be going into a facelifted Amanti around the same time. Not sure what the US release date is on these vehicles, though; maybe as early as this fall, or as late as early next year.

I swear I saw one of these this morning coming to work (pulling out of a parking garage, a white one). Since the car is still at least months away from unveiling, my guess would be the one I saw was a pre-production model. The car looks nothing like the current Sorento - very sharp and cool looking, espeically in white (I love cars in white). I did not regonize the car when I first saw it but didn't think it was a Kia (I thought it was one of those European brands) but when I saw the back of the car from somewhat of a distance, it was no doubt a Kia Sorento, a very good possibility it was the new (06/07) Kia Sorento
Maybe it was one of the pre-production models doing humid/hot temp. testing
Good job Kia

I saw some pics of these a little while ago from BP&C, so they are floating around... I'm wondering if I'm surprised they haven't been purchased by the looks of it.

I always thought the current sorento was one of the best looking SUV's out on the market. I hope they didn't make too many modifications on the front and back. From the looks of the pics, it still retains its handsome looks.

Bullsfan

from looking at the pics, it looks like it might have room for a third row seat.
Any news on third row seating for the facelifted sorento?

knicks125
08-20-2005, 05:34 AM
From what I am hearing, not third row seats.

Instead, around 2008, Kia will introduce the Mesa, which will share its platform with the next-generation Sorento, but will only be offered in a three-row configuration.
This is public knowledge, BTW. I asked a Kia executive back in January at NAIAS about the Mesa at its unveiling, and if it signaled that Kia was going to add a third-row version of the Sorento, and he said, "The Sorento is what it is--a five-passenger, body-on-frame SUV. There will be no seven-passenger Sorento. The Mesa is Kia's answer to a seven-seat SUV."

It's always been a great looking SUV... IMO didn't really need a facelift.
I guess KIA feel they need to stay ahead of Mercedes

Looks like it's getting a new grille and headlights to bring it into line with the new Optima.

murley

It will recieve the 3.8L as well as the sedona and probably the Amanti with it's face lift. It will also probably offer the third row seat as an option because it currently has one in the Korean/European markets.

knicks125

3.8L - yes
3rd row seats - no

bolita

I agree - no 3rd row seat This is only a facelift a 3rd row would need a redesign IMO!

Santeno

murley, don't take this personally, 'cause it's not intended to be an attack on you, but you might want to make sure your facts are straight when posting about Hyundai or Kia on this board. We have some rabid fans for those brands here, as well as several of their employees. They have a tendency to be highly accurate about their info - and vocal when someone is not. That said they are a nice bunch.

murley
08-29-2005, 09:48 AM
Yeah, boards are always that way. I've been selling Kia's for more than 4 years now in the US and have done enough research to kill a small rhino.
As for the Sorento, my mention for the 3rd row seat was because they have offered that seat in the CURRENT sorento chasis for 2.5 years now in Korea.
As for the 3.8L engine, it was origionally designed for the Mojave concept 1.5 years ago and will be in the Sedona, Sorento, and probably an option on the Amanti.

Here are a couple of spy shots showing the '07 Sorento uncovered. For some reason, the front now reminds me of the Tucson a little more and the rear is sort of Freestyleish to my eyes. I personally like the changes well enough overall, but am a tad surprised at how minimal they are. I guess if you have a good thing....
Enjoy!
http://autospy.dreamwiz.com/bo...6.jpg
http://autospy.dreamwiz.com/bo...2.jpg
Mike
______________

There's one of those kits in my town. I see it everyday, and it lacks such style. It practically jumps off the hood, and it looks so tacked on.
By the way, this vehicle doesn't need a facelift. It needs a complete makeover after 5 years.
