The FX is small enough and in my opinion a good crossover, although i can see how its more towards SUV.... I wish they would come out with a Infiniti version of the pathfinder instead

the pic is from the June 2005 Motortrend issue...

Quote »

Infinity will join the BMW X3-fighter fray for the 2008 model year with a smaller V6 and four-cylinder counterpart to it's FX35/45 crossover. Named CX25, for the 2.5-liter four-cylinder version that'll be the volume seller in Europe, and CX35, for the hotter 3.5 liter V6 version expected to take most sales in the US. The CX will share many of the FX's bold styling cues. It'll be built on a shortened next-generation FM front mid-engined platform. The versatile FM underpins FX35/45, M35/45, G35, Nissan 350z, and the next Skyline GT-R.

Yes, this is the counterstriket to the emerging X3/RDX "small premium" SUV segment. Acura's is 90% of what's been seen at the recent show and is based on the next gen CRV. This will probably share the RWD-bias of the current FM platform and will be tailored toward sporty/performance road use like the FX.

nismo
05-02-2005, 02:42 PM
I like it. It is a very good mix of new Infiniti styling cues. I've read it was going to be based on a FWD platform though. Thats why when Nissan debuted the Actic concept they said Infiniti would get its own version and the Actic concept is supposedly a preview of the next Xtrail which will be available for all of the NA market this time around.
This market is going grow rapidly with the introduction of Acura's RDX, Volvo's XC50, the New LR Freelander, and the rumoured Saab mini-ute to based on the Theta platform.

Vector
05-02-2005, 04:00 PM
Nismo, you may very well be right about the FWD bias. I think it's too early to speculate, although the mention of the FM platform may mean RWD. Don't know. Any Nissan/Infiniti insiders on the board?

IcedG35
05-02-2005, 06:35 PM
If it's FM platform then it must be RWD or AWD (but with a RWD configuration). There is supposed to be an upgraded FM platform to underpin the upcoming Skyline GTR (or whatever it will be called) so i'm guessing it will be built off of that platform.
Isn't the FX small enough??

*groans*
I'd rant but I don't have the energy, maybe later you'll here what I know about this. A lot of what has been said is true, albeit very loose, it leaves alot of room for rumour to grow. Infiniti will not make the mistake of making a mini-FX, so ignore that drawing.

I know this doesn't actually fit the bill of this thread, but I really didn't want to start a new thread as I just had a simple question to ask about Infiniti.
Does anyone know if Nissan/Infiniti has any plans for a convertible in the near future? It hit me today as somehow I remembered the early 90s' convertible Infiniti had.

there were rumrors of a G35 Convertible after the surprise sales success in the USA. I think it's been delayed until after the redesign though. I'll have to ask my buddy who works at Nissan NA.

....finally some news:
http://www.nissansportmag.com/home.html
Nissan Sport will get the first official look at the all new 2008 Infiniti G35 Coupe on January 7. But Nissan won't let us breathe a word of what our eyes take in until the car is officially unveiled this April at the New York Auto Show. Don't worry, we'll have every detail in our Spring 2007 issue, releasing the same day the car is unveiled.
We'll also get a look at an all-new Infiniti crossover that is slated to be a step down in both price and size from the popular Infiniti FX. It too will make its debut in New York.
StevenZoz
03-13-2007, 05:00 PM
thats stupid. i know they cant use CX because of certain other cars but EX reminds me too much of the lexus ES or even EX trim levels for honda, making me think its a sedan. the only letters available are:
AX
BX
DX
(EX)
HX
IX
KX
NX
OX
PX
SX
TX
UX
WX
YX
ZX
out of all of those, i like BX or ZX the best. but if u look at them like this:
EX 25
EX 35
BX 25
BX 35
ZX 25
ZX 35
the ZX looks the most like an infiniti, but BX follows the naming system better because it comes before FX or QX

AX, BX, CX and ZX are all old Citroen trademarks, and this is probably one of the most important cars for Infiniti when they come to Europe. They had to adopt a name they could use worldwide.
But yeah, EX is lame.

Honestly, it looks like the G35 wagon has arrived. BMW has offered the 3-wagon and the X3, Audi offers the Avant, even Bimmer has been pretty good about entry-level luxury with the C-Class wagon.... but Infiniti has one-upped them all as far as I'm concerned. It's the perfect amalgamation of luxury sedan and suv design. It's soft, and sporty and un-challenging... it's a total bore-fest... yawn. Welcome to the age of formulaic crossovers.

I'd have to agree. It's a bit of the one sausage cut to different lengths look. Infiniti's face is a nice one, but I would hope that it would continually push the envelope as opposed to replicating itself across the line before a step forward can be made. It's nice looking, but doesn't really push the envelope.

This "car" is running around Phoenix with a LOT less camo. I saw a black one with Michigan mfr plates on I-10 today during rush hour. It just had tape over the emblems and lights, with a bit of padding over the hatch and nose. The seats look really luxurious, but I couldn't see much else. To me, it almost looks too small for an Infiniti. My first impressions (from the rear) strongly leaned toward "big Versa" - probably not what they were shooting for. It definitely has a family nose.
