Snapped these on the way in to the office today -- sorry for the camera phone quality. Had a Toyota Logo on the trunk lid and the word "Crown" on the right side, as well as crown logos on the C-pillar. I did some searching, and this does not appear to be a current model, but I could be wrong...
link 1
link 2
Looks like a right hand drive version of the new GS

There's another one of those here in Michigan, it's white though.
That is the current Toyota Crown Athelte which is only sold in Japan.
I don't know what they're doing in the USA, but often the design centres use cars from other countries as research subjects.

I've read that some people do that and just get them serviced at the Lexus dealership, since it shares the same engine as the GS.

The GS has always been based on the Crown - same platform as the Crown Majesta, and same engines and powertrain. The new-generation Crowns are slightly bigger than the GS though.

WOW! I am really impressed with that design. It looks very "Maybach"-esque in the rear.
The front screams LS430, but doesn't look as sharp. It reminds me of the previous-generaton Acura RL (USA), the way they "extended" the headlight towards the grille. IMO, this Toyota looks very elegant. Why don't they sell this instead of the American Avalon??
Why doesn't Toyota send these nice-looking automobiles over here to America? Perhaps competition w/ Lexus? (they are basically twins), but I thought Lexus was now selling in Japan?

Why am I complaining? I thought this is self-explanatory. But i'll try to explain. We get about 20% the cars UK and europe gets. It's like this, we don't get TVR, all French cars, Opel, Caterham, MG rover, Alfa romeo, Lancia, Fiat, Daihatsu, Noble, Pagani, Lotus Elise... the list goes on.
BUT, we do get all the Daewoo, Kia and Hyundai.
We also get very few models from the brands we are limited to choose, like there's almost no market in smaller than focus class.
We also never get any diesel and most high-performance models.
We also get the inferior models as other countries like golfs made in mexico, and focus made in USA, and corolla made in Canada...
We also get very delayed release than other countries, and the golf V still isn't here yet. Even if it is, it's made in mexico which mades the quality... You know what I mean.
This is the worse place for car market selection and the reason I regret living here. Can someone else sympathise my feelings? And yes, mexico does get a much more generous selection Canadions do.
I'm glad you point this out knicks, I'm sure people from abroad doesn't understand the situation here.

The US (the largest car market in the world) doesn't have it yet either. Also, there is nothing wrong with VWs being built in mexico, and they haven't shown any quality problems yet. (most reviews of the mexico built Jetta have it rated higher in terms of tactile interior quality and fit than the last one)

The owners WILL tell you. I've heard from them, and also the reliability issues. ANd everyone knows golf IV has better interior quality than the new one. This is a known issue. How could they install multilink without cutting cost elsewhere?
And to my knowledge, the USA gets a worse or equally worse selection than Canada. So there's no point comparing the two of the worst. For example, USA doesn't seem to have the Nissan X-trail. But USA does get the marvelous Toyota MR-S.

The X-trail will come here when the next generation vehicle is unveiled. Also, it is true that the US doesn't have as big of a selection, but a lot of that has to do with the fact that for some makers it just isn't profitable to sell cars in the US.

Also to add to the VW sadness, is that the jetta ( golf with boot) car we get is installed with a big 2.5 5 cylinder. But when I look closely I inspected the engine and discovered it produces 150 bhp. The 2002 Altima 2.5 from three years ago shames this car with 175 hp and also amazingly the same price. Sorry, I don't have the details of how the use of one more cylinder can make the horsepower 25 less than a car of exact same price launched 4 years.

hokman
04-03-2005, 11:26 PM
I don't know why it isn't profitable, I'm sure everybody wants a better selection than this very limited one. Doesn't people who live here also feel unfair we get this unexceptional selection? Actually it's unacceptable.

You are a sad, uninformed little man
The Jetta's 2.5L engine actually makes about 170 HP. That matches the Altima's horsepower, and Nissan's engines are well known for their high level of technological bliss, so yes it can be expected to be better because the Jetta's 2.5L 5 has not been on the list of the world's best engines for 10 years, unlike the VQ technology nissan puts into all its engines.
Now, Ascariss and I have bothed looked at NA's VW information, I think the best info I found in terms of Engines available in North America is five engines
1.8T
2.0
TDI
V6
VR6
I see no I5, V5, 2.5 anything to indicate the engine you are talking about. So unless Volkswagen has made some HUGE f***ing error in both Canada and the US's availability information, the very fact that you mentioned the engine is a load of bull**** and your point not valid
I may as well delete the post because yuou were wrong in your comparison to the Altima, about the engine availability of the car, about just about everything you mention
and beyond that, when you're shovelling bull**** down our throats to raise hell on the boards for your personal entertainment, why should we even acknowledge you? I'm tired of your crap, I'm tired of the petty arguments, I'm tired of you. As soon as I know you have seen this I will ban you in every way I can for causing unrest on the forum.
