What is so darn hard about getting frontal pictures these days? Of course I guess we've pretty much seen that from those clubsport pictures a while back.

does it have to have the ironing board on the back? Why does Porsche put such large spoilers on their cars? (hopefully for performance purposes, and not for looks)
Does this not look like a GT3 to anyone else? It looks to be widebodied and has some options like the 19" rims, a rear windshield wiper, and a sunroof that weren't offered on the 996 GT3.

Hmmmmm, LegoDoom is right ...there seemes to be an sunroof atleast on one of the cars....and it looks like it DOESENT have the right spoiler in the front.Hard to see on that sideshot....Ascariss has some real GT3 pics from me he knows what im talking about .

The stacked vent on the bottom of the hood is more characteristic of the GT2, the GT3 RS wasn't stacked, simply straight. While that could easily be changed and not matter, you must note the nice interior which does not look GT3 or GT2. This looks closer to a Turbo which won't have the rear wing though. So either the GT3 is going upmarket in interior, or the GT2 is losing the bodykit, but either way this is odd. It does resemble those GT3 Clubsport pictures though, I wish I could find that thread.

for sure its a GT3 ... the only exhausts that are offered as exclusive-exhausts are chromed Carrera-S ones (the serial version has no chromed ones) and the already presented sport-exhausts which have 4 pipes, two bigger than the other two if you know what I mean.

Tipped to cost around 80,000 when UK sales start early next year, the new hard-core 911 once again acts as a homologation special for Porsches race-track activities.
Close inspection of the prototype above shows the subtle changes that mark it out as the new GT3. They include an additional cooling duct just ahead of the leading edge of the bonnet and a subtle splitter lip on the front bumper.
At the rear theres a towering wing with integrated ducting for the rear-mounted engine and twinned central exhaust pipes. The whole car has also been lowered and sports high-performance tyres.
Porsche is tight-lipped on the power source of the latest GT3, but indications are it will pack a new 3.8-litre engine based on that used in the 911 Carrera S. With lightweight internals and unique engine mapping, it is designed to rev to over 8000rpm and punch out around 400bhp in production trim, topping the old GT3s 3.6-litre powerplant by 25bhp and the newly introduced Carrera S by 50bhp.
As before, drive is through a updated six-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels. Expect it to better the current GT3s performance of 0-62mph in 4.5sec, 0-100mph in 9.4sec and 191mph.
Meanwhile, the success of the 911 Turbo Cabriolet, re-introduced late last year after a long hiatus, appears to have cemented its place in the Porsche line-up. The new model, revealed (right) with a hard-top in place, is rumoured to run a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six engine with 480bhp up 60bhp on todays model. However, Porsche is also working on an S version with a 525bhp version of the same engine.

source: autocar

The crash.net article say the Cup car (finally) gets a sequential gearbox! That can only mean a production version is (again, finally) near.
I love that Porsche lets anybody willing to simply "grab an order form" for a true race car like the GT3 Cups. I saw a 996 version at Laguna Seca that a weekend racer had just picked up. It was just like buying any other car only this one's interior was stripped and it was 100% sorted and ready for competition. Just a "plain" white car, ready to rock. Incredible!
I wish they offered a racer around the $40k level! I guess that's what Lotus Elises are for.

Well the new 911 Turbo will have the DSG transmission as an option.. In such a purpose-built race car as the GT3.. I imagine it too will have a DSG option.

I never liked the little vent below the hood. I just don't think it looks right, although I'm sure it's purposeful (I think it's to vent air from the front intakes?).
To me it makes the car looks like a grinning idiot or something.

Same with me! Really spoils the cleanliness of the 997 update. I don't much care for wings either but I guess sacrifies must be made for this rareified level of performance. All the aero gunk does help on track day, without a doubt. And the DSG shifter will make this a scream.
