Weird... The roofline looks way too high and it's not very elegant, compared to the old one.

It doesn't look too high, just very round.

Looks like a fusion between the old C70's roofline with a slightly reshaped S60 ass-end and a current gen S40 front. I LIKE IT!!!! Does anyone know if these are actual spy pics or just chops?

The three-piece hardtop is designed to give the Volvo convertible, the only one in the Swedish brand's lineup, more of a coupelike appearance, officials said. The new hardtop folds into a small compartment and doesn't compromise trunk space.
It has not yet been determined whether the new C70 will be designated as a 2006 or a 2007 model.
The redesigned C70 is expected to be priced from the high $30,000s. It will also be the third Volvo to feature the so-called "floating console," an ultrathin center stack on the instrument panel that made its first appearance on the Volvo S40 sedan and V50 wagon. The unusual center stack was inspired by the designs of high-end home electronics and has proved to be so popular that Volvo is phasing it into its other products.
What this means to you: A new hardtop convertible priced to compete with the Mercedes-Benz SLK lets us have the best of both worlds. But can Volvo go toe-to-toe with the likes of the SLK with American consumers?

I though volvo said the C70 will continue but on the S40 platform. I am sure it's posted either here or on the old forum.

Why change the name? C40 sounds smaller even though it wll have 4 seats. I would have prefered if they left it C70, unless volvo is planning on spinning off a coupe from the S60 lineup.

If that production-car really look like the one in the small picture above, its very logical to call it C40. its based on S40, and also the front looks very much like S40
and about the names, this time the number comes from the sedan its based on (40) not like C70, where 70 comes from a Wagon (V70) If there is going to be bigger coupe it should be named C60, but I think people already know the C70`s name too well

Warewolf
05-27-2005, 01:11 AM
Should'nt be more logical to call it "C50", since "40", "60", "80" are used for sedans and "30","50","70","90" are used for wagons, hatchbacks, suvs??????

-Peter-
05-27-2005, 01:31 AM
yes, maybe but if there is going to be smaller suv called XC50, it could bee too complicated to have C50, XC50 and V50
but there is/was V70, XC70 and C70
still I think its better to give it the name that points to the sedan, not Wagon. Sedan and CoupeCabriolet are still more similar than CC and Wagon

Not too sure about the quality of the rear suspension though. It must be a new mode. Maybe you can have comfort on three wheels and then sport suspension on the fourth. I thought they were building two coupes/convertibles. Well the C50 which is like a S40 coupe/convertible. and the redisigned C70 which replaces the curretn one and i dont know if this will be hardtop vert, or soft top, or a coupe? The C70 was offered in coupe and soft top versions so those will probably come back. So the hardtop will probably be the C50 and it would be REALLY dumb to offer a coupe if u have a hardtop vert, so hopefully C50 only hardtop.

Santeno
07-14-2005, 08:15 AM
I was under the impression that Volvo rid itself of that "Bland" image years ago. At the very least they did about 10 years ago with the C70. This car looks remarkably like the C70 coupe from 1996 (and it's subsequent convertible variant - at least with the top down). The only major visual differences seem to be the slightly more sculpted bodywork (including taillights) and less brightwork on the front. A beautiful vehicle indeed, but I don't see any major breakthroughs ion volvo's current design language occurring here.
