I jus came across this from InsideLine @ Edmunds... http://www.edmunds.com/insidel...4811#
Apparently Buick will chase after the Lexus GS and LS with a Holden derived V8 RWD sedan. While Buick bores many, their quality has surely gone up and there designs have become more inspired,, at least as much as many Lexus' in my opinion. By 2008 I expect Buick's image to be where it needs to eb for this kind of product to be viable. The profile is very nice, especially the back window.
UPDATE: Sorry, I should have posted a direct link to the picture, here it is: http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332...0.jpg

Given the timeframe and styling this is probably the new Holden Commodore (LaCrosse-size). Note the similarity to the Saturn Aura concept. The primary export model will be a Chevrolet for GM LAAM and Asia-Pacific. Holden is developing a similar-sized Buick, but I doubt they or Shanghai GM have the capacity to serve the US market. More likely it will be built alongside the Pontiac G8 in Canada.

is this not the Park Avenue replacement? Buick is re-doing its entire fleet of sedans, and the Park Avenue has a year or so left. Why does it seem this car is a surprise?

Mega, That's a rebadged Holden sold overseas as a Buick. The GTO is as well, but the G6 doesn't have that steering wheel
Nor does it have the one from the spy shots. The one from the G6 is shared with the Malibu and other small, FWD cars. This steering wheel should be all new

"Lausanne" is a town in Switzerland, just like Lucerne. Maybe this is Buick's new name strategy. Name everything after Swiss villages that start with "L".
The next Buick Minivan could be the "Lake Geneva"

According to GM's new policy, Holden got the development rights for the Zeta platform, with other subsidiaries ( like Buick ) giving them support and input on how to adapt it to fit their own needs. So Holden would probably get to use the platform first. This imo is way to developed to be an 08 car.

yea, I mean, all the interior looks set in stone and even some of the exterior acutraments such as the fog lights are usually the last things to get set on a car...I've also heard this could possibly be for the chinese market...

Look at the Lausanne spy photos, why does it look very much like a FWD car, sort of llike the Lucerne. It shares its semi-cabforward look and long overhang.....
http://thecarconnection.com/im...e.jpg
Just like the FWD Lucerne.

It's not Buick's new naming strategy. The Lucerne was an old concept previewing the late Riviera. The TCC article is just speculation, claiming the name was used on another old concept, although I can't find any details. The apparent name GM is using is Buick Invicta. The vehicle pictured can now be seen to be LHD, but it has round badges like a Holden or Buick, not a Chevrolet. That points to a Buick, as Hans Lehmann says other shots reveal, but the grille uses horizontal bars like Chinese Buicks, not vertical ones like US models, and lacks Ventiports.
The Royaum is almost exactly the same size as the Lucerne (not quite as wide). Check the wheels on the Invicta - 17", smaller than the Lucerne pictured, yet they appear much larger - because the Invicta is around the same size as the LaCrosse.

What if everyone has this wrong and this is actually a FWD G8 based on the same platform as the Lucerne?

I like this car. I'm also picking up a Mercedes-Benz vibe from this car, espicially in the styling of the front. I think this car should sell well for Buick when it debuts in 2007 or 2008.
Also, to end the "G6 Steering Wheel Debate", the steering wheel pictured is a 3-spoke design; the G6 is a four spoke.
Heh, can someone tell me why this car is abandoned? There's a tire in the front seat for crying out loud! Tell me where this car is. I'll steal it, repaint it, slap on a few Buick badges and give everyone a look at the future.

It also does not have Buick's waterfall grill, but horizontal slasts instead- similar to infiniti.
I wonder if we are looking at the Australian Holden version of the test mule. The Buick sedan is being engineered by GM's Holden brand, so there is a possibility the styling may still differ from what we are seeing.

It is a FWD Buick for China. The grille and the proportions are the giveaway. (it has FWD, econo-sedan proportions, just like the Lucerne). And anybody else thing the side profile and the rear lights look more than a little bit like the Saturn Aura's?

So I'm confused... have we estalished that this is not going to be a U.S. model? It really seems odd that they'd test it in an Asian country.

LHD, FF, Buick Sedan... Seems that China would be the natural target market for this Buick... though, I don't really understand the logic behind Buick having unique products for that market; If I'm not mistaken, there isn't a single Buick product in the Chinese market that is shared with North America. (Used to be but, with Century/Regal dead here and the Terraza here,... and this new sedan, which I'm assuming is a Lucerne derivative, it's a bit of a strange parallel universe)
Wasn't there a Star Trek in which the Enterprise crew entered a parallel universe and met another Enterprise crew that was close but not identical to themselves?
