T-Sport Is White Hot

Exclusive spy images in this week's magazine reveal Toyota putting the finishing touches to an even more powerful version of its Corolla T Sport. The newcomer differs from the existing range-topper thanks to a deeper front spoiler, bigger airdam, distinctive twin tailpipes and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the hotter T Sport will be powered by a 225bhp engine. The Toyota will go head-to-head with the new VW Golf GTI and forthcoming Vauxhall Astra VXR when it hits showrooms around September.
Its introduction also sees the debut of a five-door T Sport - previously, the car was available only as a three-door. This move is in response to other makers' more practical hot hatches, in particular the Golf. The newcomer will be sold alongside the existing 15,995 190bhp variant. However, the added performance will cost extra, with prices of around 17,500 for the three-door or 18,000 for the five-door model.
Source: Auto Express

who knows, they might surprise us.... or maybe not... It is fairly hard for Toyota to sell niche vehicles in Europe, TPS doesnt like that...

A V6 into a Corolla? Would it even fit? I thought even the 1.8L unit was already a fairly tight fit.

Laguna

If it was just a four-cylinder, the dual-exhaust pipes are pointless; they are all for show.

Top Secret
02-15-2005, 06:50 AM
Not for show - per se, but unecessary as dual-exhausts lose more back-pressure than just a single tip. So it is basically something that makes it look good, not for it to perform any better.

Car should make 235 PS actually... There are aftermarket SC's in Europe that make more than 280 PS in Corolla TS.
Big advantage is that it will be factory made, so other upgrades will be easy to add. IE they can upgrade brakes, suspension, etc, etc at fraction of cost.
Supercharger is much better option for hot hatch than an V6 engine... Especially with 2zz engine, it should be an monster. You get super performance, easy tunable, good mpg, and lightweight... With V6, you gain some 100lbs for same performance, and all of it in the nose of the car.
Thats why more realistic journalists never liked R32 or 147 GTA, way, way too nose heavy for an FWD car...
Nevertheless, once again it might be cool, but it is hard for Toyota to sell niche cars in divided market like Europe...

i read that sportier toyotas like their T models actually helped a bit in europe

KebabGud

Toyota does not need help in europe...
not i norway anyway :P
(i cant remeber the last time anyone other then toyota had a car beeing the best seller in norway, the Yaris, Corolla, Avensis and RAV4 are all the best selling cars of there type in norway.. dont realy know about the rest of europe)
