there are a couple of threads in the old forum, but I believe that the car was called the Fox or whatever the brazilian version is called.

Your getting confused!!!

Yups.. you're confused... The Brazilian Fox is coming to Europe as a Lupo-replacement.. This one, the Polo is a higher class car.. And slightly bigger than the Fox/Lupo..
Compare:
Lupo:

Lupo Successor Fox:

Polo:

and you can see the facelifted version above

I like those renderings of the new polo, seems more mature. What I am wondering about is the fact that the license plate shows a "BB"(Boeblingen..my car also has BB plates) plate...but the little state sticker(usually showing the state) doesnt match..

drugmirko
01-31-2005, 03:16 PM
well... since obviously there's no thread for nex/restyled Polo, there were no place for these spy shots of it... though I have slight feeling of seeing them arround here...
they are fiew weeks old but they are real spy shots:

sources autoweek.nl&autorevue.cz

It's really unfortuante that VW can't build a GTi for the USA off the Polo chasis in Brazil and send it here instead of the dopey looking Golf 5

Naga,
I just checked http://www.vw.com and the Golf V does not seem to be on sale in the homeland yet...weird...I think it would sell much better than the IV model, it is such a huge hit over here in Europe. Last year the Golf V was already the best selling car..in its first year..

With respect to the American market, it has been widely reported that the new Jetta shows up in March. Then the new Passat shows in September. The new GTI in early 06 and the conventional Golfs in May of 06. The fact that Volkswagen did not have the GTi ready to go from the start for the American market indicates YET AGAIN how moronic VW is when it comes to the USA. I'm a huge VW nut, but the company is just downright dumb in its decisions.

I dont know if its a chop but the facelifted Polo due this year will change its bug eyed look for something similar to what is shown according to a friend that works for the local VW importer who claims he saw a prototype at the Brazil plant....

Looks good indeed! The front looks definetly better than the current one, I am not sure about the rear lights yet. Somehow they remind me of the Seat Arosa.
One other thing: since when does South Africa(wheels24.co.za) count as Europe, drugmirko? ;-)

Tidal

Much nicer than the current one. Looks more mature somehow, but also more elegant. If VW doesn't screw up the pricing again this could give the Polo a nice sales boost. Now, about that GTI...

i have a question 4 all the people that live in europe and know about the golf and polo: is there any size difference between the 2? and if there isnt then what was the point of making the polo?

Reppu
02-24-2005, 07:22 AM
Polo is a small city car, between the Corsa / Punto / Clio / 206 likes in size
Golf is a compact hatch between the Focus / Astra / A3 / C4 likes in size

Tidal
02-24-2005, 07:30 AM
There is. The Golf is bigger in every way:
Length: 12 inches
width: 4 inches
height: 1 inch
w.base: 4,5 inches
The Golf also uses bigger engines too, between 1.4l and 2.0l ( until the R32/6 comes out ) with outputs between 75 and 200hp. The Polo varies between 1.2l and 1.9l, and 55 to 130hp.

Yes and that makes these cars on photo/movie shoots stand out even further, ie their registration plates...
I just happened to be looking out the window when the Polo drove past me with camera truck just ahead of it on the highway. The tail lights still had the masking tape on it but headlights completely undisguised. The Polo went almost unoticed on the highways here considering how many of these cars are on South African roads...

whell it definitely has the VW family look now, though the headlights do seem a bit large for the rest of the design. Other than that, it seems like a solid little car. Probably even a very good car for the class it competes in, but I doubt that it is anything truly revolutionary. Is it me or is this car moving into the market space formerly occupied by the golf? It seems almost as big (or bigger) that the gen1 golf.
