For all of us that don't know anything about Proton-cars: Is this a new model altogether or is it a prestanda-version of an existing model.
I think it looks good.

ToyotaFreak
01-17-2005, 10:46 AM
It's an all new model. It's based on the same platform used for the Proton Waja & GEN.2

Is it for European's market ? or only for Asia.
Look very good!

You have to admire Proton for transforming their company from a hand me down from MMC and Citroen product based company to some new products that look very good.
I would love to see an SUV and Pick Up from Proton and a global push.

unfortunately, the gen-2 has ben getting horrible reviews , at least that's what it sounds like from the reviews i've read. hopefully this will be different.

One thing I like about the car are the projector headlights. But I have to agree with KaRaceR's comment on the tailpipes. They should give it a dual tip.

i like the exterior design which it look fresh then old satria. it is expected to be on malaysian's road by june 2005. however, the interior will make people head down if they use same concept like gen2. proton should make the interior less plastic feel. trm is also planned to be on the road in april 2005. toyotafreak, do you have any info & pictur on trm?

This car reminds me much of the BMW 1 series rear end. I really like this car it querky and fresh and I like the rear window

This is a fresh, pleasing subcompact design. It reminds me of a Rover, and looks more upmarket than it is. I wish more manufacturers would put this much thought into their small cars.
As a few people have pointed out, though, a slightly beefier exhaust would help.

INFO ABOUT NEW PROTON SRM:
This Proton new baby "Satria" will be launch in June or July 2005 after being delayed nearly a year.satria will share the same platform as Waja and Gen.2,i guess Platform B and will be available with price tag around RM 40,000-RM 50,000 but for sure, its cheaper than Gen.2. It will be export to Australia first because Australian market is important for Proton as a test market and will be export to UK and then the rest of the world. The GTi version will have a bit different make up (more sporty) and will used 2.0L Turbo engine (foreign maker engine) and will be available in end 2005 or early 2006.
The interior is white (not dark grey like before) and the seat,i guess similiar to Waja and the dashboard more to Gen.2.The rear room will be a bit bigger than the current Satria.
I agree with some of u guy,Proton should use dual tailpipes and i suggest Proton should make the tail light in a single colour..red..!!
hopefully the GTi version will be more sporty and better.Good job Proton for this new SRM!!
About other Proton models..
The TRM will be launch next month (Feb 2005) and i guess it will be named as 'Sassy'.powered by 1.1L engine and the price will be around RM 34,000-RM 40,000.The new TRM is bigger than Kelisa and Chevrolet Aveo.
Proton also will introduce Proton 'Crossover AWD' codenamed Proton MSX..later end of this year or next year.
Facelifted Waja will be available next year (2006)..its maybe only a make up changed (front design and etc.).
New Putra also on the making maybe in 2007 and according to rumour, the new Putra totally based on Lotus Elise.

Platform, if you have any contacts at proton, you might want to let them know that Putra might not be a good name for a vehicle if they intend on selling it in western markets. It sounds too close to "Putrid" or in romance countries, one of the words for "Lady of the night". I can't imagine either being a strong selling point.

It's just a shame that it's only going to be offered in a 3dr hatch form.
Are there any other body styles going to be considered?? A 5dr hatch would be good, but could take sales away from the Gen-2.
And what size is it?? From the pic's, it look's like it could be close to that of the Gen-2??

Right on TeeDi, The SRM is the same size as the GEN.2 & Waja. All three cars share the same platform.
Here's the current line-up in Malaysia;
Savvy-> Budget-priced city car.
Iswara-> Larger than the Savvy smaller than the GEN.2 & Wira/ Persona Aeroback. The was supposed to be launched in 2004 after the GEN.2, but was delayed. Then, it was scheduled for a 2005 launch, but agian, it was delayed. I hope that the engineers really did work out the bugs (Especially the quality issues that have been commonplace in home-spec Protons.), thanks to the delays.

As a Malaysian, I can tell you, that Proton is a joke. They make cars that were fit only for the late 80's- early 90's...

ya .. agreed .
cars over here are heavily taxed ...
and with the proton iswara , AKA 1982 mitu.fiore ... it is still in production , and people over here still uses 6-8 years loan to pay for that junk ....
whatever models that come out from proton is good , but we malaysian are getting the basic model only . no airbags no abs . nothing to be enjoy about .

"isnt proton also considering selling a re-bodied lotus elise "
This plan was cancelled. The car is now being sold as the Lotus Europa S. Take a good look at the design features and you will be able to quickly relize that it has a lot in common with the other newer Proton models.
