the should ( as in might) reach slightly upmarket w/ this thing, just enough to deflect the Solstice/Sky

01-16-2005, 03:03 PM
I was hoping for a little more styling-wise but, I guess, if it ain't broken don't fix it.

01-16-2005, 04:06 PM
Just as long as they don't make it too much bigger. It would be a travesty for Mazda to forget what made this car so great in the first place.

01-16-2005, 11:58 PM
So now now they aim for the S2000? What was the power output of the original?

01-17-2005, 01:01 AM
S2000 is bowing out, last I heard. Too expensive to be real Miata competition anyway.

01-17-2005, 07:04 AM
that looks relly nice, very smoothe and stream lined the tail lights look amazin

01-17-2005, 08:50 AM
Well, I don't think these pictures are real, and even if they are, this isn't a facelift. A facelift implies slight tweaks to the exterior, this will have revised exterior, interior, chassis, and drivetrain. Its going to be a total redesign, even if it does look like the old one. I also doubt that this will have even 200HP for the basic variant, maybe it will for a later Mazdaspeed, but not for the basic one.

01-17-2005, 10:06 AM
The picture show evolution, well I think that maza have exolved the mx5 well willingly into something that looks fantastic. I really like the front profile of the car is simplere that any older car and very sports lined and beasty.

So?

I think this qualifies as a little more than a facelift...

01-17-2005, 01:36 PM
Hmm.. they didn't do much, but it sure looks good, i like it, it takes it back to the orignal styling

01-17-2005, 05:08 PM
People, this car is all about simplicity, not extravagant design... Its about fun driving, not breath-taking performance.... It's a compact, cheap little sportyish car, so I think that both the design criticism and the comparison to an S2000 are out of place.
However, Mazda unfortunately HAS to move a little upmarket... imagine the magazine reports saying that the new Miata ain't better in anything than the old one... it has to improve a little to keep people happy, and that necesarily means more cash. Hopefully not too much - that's the trick

01-17-2005, 08:57 PM
A nice, round 180hp would keep the Solstice and Sky at bay.

01-18-2005, 05:12 AM
Hmmm 180 Hp? Hope so.. but then the next question: How many HP does the MPS version get? 230?

01-18-2005, 05:16 PM
Ooh... how about 238? As in... the RX-8's rotary?
That'd be fun...

Sorry but this will remain a 4 banger (here's hoping Mazdaspeed does some magic to it).

I have faith they'll do a good job...

Isn't the Miata's platform a slightly revised version of the RX-8?
Anyway, it looks good, and 200HP sounds good.

01-19-2005, 08:00 PM
who said 200BHP? That's as unofficial as can be (even though it sounds reasonably correct)

Will this compete wit the S2000 (if it aint discontinued) OR compete wit the MR2 (also if not discontinued)??

looks like the 2nd generation Miata with a reskinning and we all know the 2nd generation was a less than enthusiastic warm over of the first generation. This version looks exceedingly bland.

We don't have long to wait until all will be revealed ....

The all-new two-seater will be shown for the first time at a VIP event during the evening of February 28 and will make its public debut at a press conference at the Geneva Show on March 1. Detailed information and photos will be made available at that time.
The all-new Mazda MX-5 roadster is just one of the exciting products Mazda has planned for Geneva with the company showcasing its successful line of new-generation Zoom-Zoom vehicles, including a significantly upgraded version of the highly successful Mazda6.
Mazda6 was the companys first, new-generation Zoom-Zoom product and was launched into global markets in the spring of 2002. Since then, it has won over 100 automotive awards and been a key component of Mazdas recent global success.
While were excited to finally get the cover off the new MX-5, I think the entire line of Mazdas new-generation Zoom-Zoom products deserves to be center stage, said Stephen Odell, senior managing executive officer in charge of Marketing, Sales and Customer Service. It is particularly gratifying to showcase the upgraded Mazda6 in Europe, where it has been so successful. With the upgrade, we have improved the product in vital areas such as NVH, performance and overall visual appeal.
In all, the range of modifications will make a great car even better. The exterior design has been upgraded to achieve an even stronger, more athletic road presence. In addition, body rigidity has been improved for better handling and stability; the engines (including the diesel) have been modified and combined with new transmissions to deliver stronger, more environmentally friendly performance; interior quality has been upgraded and better sound insulation added for a quieter ride; the option list has been extended to ensure the popular Mazda6 continues to be a success in Europe, and beyond. Production of the upgraded and improved Mazda6 will begin in the summer of 2005.
Details of both cars will be announced during the Mazda press conference scheduled to begin at 13:45 in Hall 5, on Tuesday, 1 March 2005.
i like that; the interior is awesome, although i would've preferred the headlights to be a bit sharper-looking instead of an evolution of the current miata/mx-5 (although thde concept had it, so it's obvious the production car would have it, i guess i forgot about that )

Sure it will look like the RX-8, sure. Great to see that they didn't make me look like an idiot and made it still uniquely MX-5. I really like it. The scans might not be that great, but to me it looks pretty good. The interior looks well thought out too. I'm really liking this, theough I wish they had brought back the one finger door latches. Either way good job Mazda.

To be honest, I don't really like it; a tad too similar to the RX-8, which is in my mind, a bad thing. The two sportcars should be kept seperate cosmetically. The RX-Series is supposed to be unique, the only cars with a Rotary engine, and then you have the cheap, sporty cars like the MX-5. They should have different identities.

Top Secret, you're looking at the Motor Trend scans right? Because thats the actual thing, those Autobild chops aren't. If you are looking at the Motor Trend ones could you point out the RX-8, because I really don't see it.
