It's already well into its development programme, and is tipped to be unveiled in concept form early next year. Following the GST (Grand Sports Tourer) show car, which will be named R-Class when it is also revealed in 2005, this hatch has been codenamed CST - short for Compact Sports Tourer - and will wear B-Class badges when it goes on sale. Based on a lengthened version of the A-Class platform, the newcomer will offer a flexible cabin and room for five. The mag/s spy shot confirms the dashboard will be similar in layout to the smaller car's. While the focus will be on practicality, Mercedes' engineers know that the B-Class must be dynamically capable, too.
As with many models in the firm's line-up, it's thought the car will come in two and four-wheel-drive form, although UK cars will be front-wheel drive only. There will be a choice of 1.5, 1.7 and 2.0-litre normally aspirated petrol en-gines, plus a hot 2.0 turbo flagship. Meanwhile, diesel fans will be offered several variants of a 2.0-litre oil-burner. UK prices are uncomfirmed, but buyers should expect to pay from 15,500.

Quote, originally posted by Ascariss »

SOURCE: Automotor und sport

Quote, originally posted by Ascariss »

New pics, sorry for the delay, slept in today.

Quote, originally posted by Ascariss »

Thanks to ewans for the pics.

Quote, originally posted by Omar »

Here are the lastest pics:
http://www.channel4.com/4car/g....html
Spy Shot: Mercedes-Benz B-Class
The B-Class is, as its name suggests, intended to sit in the M-B range between the A-Class and the entry-level C-Class models. Obviously. Less obviously, it is conceptually a smaller answer to the upcoming R-Class, an opulent 4x4-crossover station wagon which shares its underpinnings with the new M-Class. It's front-wheel drive only, and considerably more compact, but it shares a similar approach in its roof height and interior versatility. The show car on display at the Detroit Motor Show, called Vision B Compact Sports Tourer, is fitted with a new four-cylinder 140bhp diesel engine and a new CVT auto gearbox, but expect production cars to come with a similar engine line-up to the C-Class, starting with 1.8-litre units.
Mercedes hopes that this model will appeal to a whole new younger generation of customers, and sees it as a competitor to cars like the Subaru Impreza wagon and Saab 9-2X, Audi A3 Sportwagon and perhaps the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Plus. It also expects it to be bought as a second or third car in households which already have an S-Class or other larger Mercedes, as an economical runaround. Prices in the US are expected to start from around $25,000. Although Mercedes hasn't yet confirmed availability in Europe of this model, initially claiming that it has been designed specifically with US buyers in mind, it's likely that we will be offered a version at a later date.

Source: 4CAR
THE REAR LIGHTS SCREAM LEXUS LS430!!! although i still like the way it looks
those look like AMG alloy wheels. I wonder how this thing's gonna do here in the States. I hope it catches on. If people in this country get it through their heads that you can buy a car smaller than a schoolbus and still be cool, we'll be on our way to doing some serious (and much-needed) downsizing.
I just hope BMW doesn't get the wild idea of bringing that god awful 1-series over here. Because we won't be havin' that.

So how is the B-Class allowed to come to the US but no the 1 Series? You said yourself that the people of the US need to downsize.

Alright so its a bout 5 and im walking down the street near an S.FL beach and what do you know drives right by a nearly naked (only slight camo on the head and taillights, and the badges) silver B-class. Sorry i only got a quick glimpse and i didnt have a camera on me,but it was looking pretty good, reminded me more of a really small minivan, like itd go against the mazda 5 (although i anticipate them to be in slightly different price classes due to brand image etc.)

According to this weeks AutoNews the B Class for the US is again dead until exchange rates are better. No release any earlier than 2007.
Quote: Mercedes-Benz will delay the U.S. launch of the compact B class for at least a year because of currency and cost concerns.

I highly doubt that to be honest. One of the reaons the B-Class was developed to use it as a replacement for the C-Class Sportscoupe on the NA market. If MB really depened so much on the exchange rates, they wouldve stopped selling cars over there 1.5yrs ago when the EUR took off...
