Didn't see another topic, so I'll start one
After no news for some time, finally some more pictures and info

BMW is wasting no time in developing an estate version of its next 3-series. Captured by Autocars spies undergoing testing on public roads, Munichs sporty new load hauler should make its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September before going on sale in the UK shortly before the end of the year.
Historically, BMW has waited two years after the launch of the 3-series saloon before introducing a new estate, but strong sales of the Touring in recent years have prompted it to change the timing of the new models launch to within six months of the saloon.
The new car is slightly larger than its booted sibling, which is due to appear at Marchs Geneva Motor Show. Length is up by almost 50mm on the current Touring at 4520mm, and its 77mm wider at 2013mm. Riding on a wheelbase thats increased by 35mm over its predecessors at 2760mm, it promises more room for all occupants, as well as improved luggage capacity. The 465-litre boot is said to have grown by 30 litres over the current model, and extends to almost 1500 litres when the split-fold rear seats are down.
Power will come from inline four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, starting with a 148bhp 2.0-litre in the 320i and climbing to a 255bhp 3.0-litre powerplant in the 330i.
Along with standard rear-wheel-drive models, BMW is also planning to equip selected 3-series Tourings with its xDrive 4x4 system, also recently confirmed for the 5-series.
Autocar.co.uk

A question of taste, get used to them because those are the 16" standard rims in the four cyl. versions. I like them.

The 3er Touring will be unveiled in the summer (July) prior to it's debut at the Frankfurt motor show IAA in September where it will also be unveiled along with the 330d.

Funny, unlike the 5er touring, which had the front covered up while testing, this doesn't. And the 5er was out and on sale when the touring was testing, this isn't. lol Somehow the car looks like it has lost some sleakness to it, like the previous wagon, and compared to the E61. It is almost like the roofline it too tall or something,

it will be launch later than 3series saloon. but if im not mistaken, the touring already on testing since 2Q 2004. the styling a bit better than the previous 3 touring but i really hope the rear end design would have more aggresive looks.

Z4 needs to be fixed here and there because right now Boxter and new SLK leave it in the dust in terms of handling, driving pleasure and ergonomics. So I'm guessing this might be a facelifted version.

In every single car magazine that i bought last year, the Z4 outperformed the SLK in terms of handling and driving pleasure (The SLK is a little like a dragster: very fast in a straight line, but once in corners it's crap). It's true for comfort items, but for handling I doubt. And for ergonomics... who cares when you drive a 'real' roadster... which the SLK certainly isn't!

Because of what i have read the new SLK is all what the original was supposed to be and more....... a real roadster with handling, speed, acceleration (all that crap)

V10
02-16-2005, 02:10 AM
The big problem with Mercedes is that they are going for HP's without thinking at the handling of the car... as I said the SLK is very fast in a straight line (already with the 350, i'm even not speaking of the 55 AMG which goes like hell), but in curves it doesn't handle well, it is even worse for the 55 AMG due to its heavy 8-cilinder. It's the same for the E and SL. On other items the SLK performs very well: accelarion (of what I've heard, this becomes an important sales argument in the States), comfort, etc.
And when i'm thinking about the term "roadster", i'm certainly not thinking of a car with a shape of the boot that is larger than its engine compartment and that drives like a limo (sorry SLK), it is rather the opposite, but car-marketing people love to use this word... The Z4 comes closer to this definition, without being a real one.
Does anybody know if the Z4 M will get the current 6-cilinder or the new 8-cilinder? I guess they will put the 6-in line in it, once the M3 gets out of production they will continue to produce it for the Z4.

Last time I heard it was going to the E90 M3's engine into the M-Z4.

Nice shots!
I can't wait for the M3 Touring! It'll be a little "out of character" for the M brand, I think, but for people who need a little more carrying capacity in their high-perf sedan, it'll be killer.
Does anyone know if the 3 Touring will be offered in 330 form? Currently, it's only available in 325 guise here in the states.

Fcuke
04-04-2005, 10:19 AM
Hmm.. arent you mixing this one with te 5-series?
Will the M3 come in Touring? Don't think so.
Are the 3er availlable as touring yet? Nope.
But, yes, i'm sure the 3er touring will come as a 330 touring

Uberwagon
04-04-2005, 02:59 PM
Nope, I'm referring to the 3-series - Insiders here & elsewhere have confirmed an M3 Touring is coming, in addition to the four-door sedan M3. Mercedes' C55 sedan & touring riled some feathers at BMW, apparently.
Here in the US, the Touring is only available as a 325i. Unlike other smaller markets, it's hugely expensive to introduce different models or versions here. As a result, we never got the 328/330 version of the previous touring. That's why I'm wondering if the 330 version will make it this time.
