Mag-X has this impression of the next-generation Toyota RAV4. Few details, but the magazine expects the new model to debut at the Tokyo show later this year.
https://gateway.nifty.com/serv...9.jpg

Picture is very small. I can see that the Toyota US front has finally made it onto the Rav-4. Looks way bigger too.

Is it just me or does the current RAV4 still look pretty fresh after 4+ years? I think it has aged well, but not when you compare it to its competition. Most are larger and offer better space, while the Rav seems to be a size smaller.

Well I can show some spy pics to the people that have saw it so we can see how does it look like, eh? But since sales will start within next 7-10 months, that means production starts within 4-5 months so we should see it "soon".
Thing is that current rav4 sells well still, and once they show new version, sales will drop, so why do it sooner than later? RAV4 looks awesome even now, however when you put it next to the latest models such as Corolla Verso, it looks "old". By itself, on the street, facelift version is pretty nice...

Toyota are too clever they hide their test cars very well, that its impossible to get spy pics... Any other suv that would use a toyota platform would most likely be a toyota product. since toyota doesn't have other suv's in this class it stands to reason that the answer is no. That said, toyota does use components from and variations off it's camry platform for a multitude of different types of vehicles, including SUV's. I believe (though don't quote me on this) that the first gen rav4 was based on camry components (though I've also heard Corolla). as I understand it, this current one shares componentry with the cororlla.

Again, read my response. Toyota does not really share platforms, unless it's with one of it's own brands (Diahatsu, toyota, Lexus); it's sales channels (Netz, Toyopet, Corolla); or the few sharing agreements (Mainly the corolla platform they share with GM at their Numi plant in CA and a few Diahatsu models they share with small market manufacturers in Asia).

Is there going to be a size increase with the new Rav-4? Maybe within the rear section? We always hear about "bigger and better" on upcoming models that replaces the old ones. The Rav-4 seemed to always have small trunk space. There are small sedans (Dodge Neon) with more trunk space.

it will be bigger for sure, and probably have 7 seats because thats the direction market is moving.
It still should not be "too" big, since Rav4 was always an smaller vehicle with lots of space for its size and it is doing really well in Europe and Asia so they wont alienate those markets.
Rav4 was always 4x4 celica, I doubt it will overlap with 4runner...

that looks like a chop. especially around the rear and front. y does toyota need to put camo on this if they are using the shell of a current rav4 to test powertrain? if people see it they will only see that theres something funky looking about that rav4. unless, theyve heard about it i dont think they would no its a next generation rav4.

because that last one isn't a shell of the current RAV

The extra seats seem to make a little sense since the cargo floor is so low in the car, a couple of defender style jump seats would easily fit.
But the back is definitely not the current RAV4 shell. It has a real bumper and not the taillight "pods" the last 2 gens had

it kind of looks like a chop but Toyota does use that type of camo
but that first picture has some cardboard hanging out, and that doesn't make sense...that is why i say it is a chop...it seem like it is a bad chop too

Anyone hear for sure yet when this is debuting? All Ive seen so far is speculation that it could be as early as Frankfurt.

It looks like Frankfurt or Tokyo -- arguments could be made for either one....
Mike

Id think all these pics of the All-New Rav4 with the Current Model's Shell would be old now... u'd think as the launch is sooo close that the final car/prototype would be being tested by now.
On engines and transmissions, besides the fact that the engines are a 2.4L Inline 4 and a new V6.... do we know if the 2.4L will be all-new and are we expecting a V6 from Toyotas new generation V6 (found in the Avalon) but with a smaller capacity (3.0L i guess)? Transmissions..... are they gonna use the same 5speed manual??

Just seen the new 2006 RAV4 (sorry can't post pictures till monday) But all I can say is that Motoring Asia pictures above are off the new 2006 RAV4. Comparing the new 2006 RAV4 with the Motoring Asia pictures above there are many elements that are exactly the same,
The 2006 RAV4 is a kind of evolution of the current 2001-2005 RAV4 and that is why the Motoring Asia pictures look similar to the current RAV4.
That's true, it is the real deal. In fact, I'm locking this thread because there is a similar one in the new cars area. We're literally only hours away from the unveiling of the new RAV4.
I'm very excited if you couldn't tell, I own a current one
