I was expecting the design to be a little more inspired than this.
This is just a bad chop....nothing special and just one person's interpretation of what it may look like

Looks a little bland to me also. They should probably go back to the Lumina name with this one!

The look of the new Impala reminds me of the last generation Maxima. I think the design is interesting, but a few years too late.
M0L0TOV

What about the 3.6 V6 that is in the Lacrosse? Is the Impala not good enough for it or what? Is the 3.9 V6 a pushrod? DOHC would be the way to go if they want it to compete against Japan--> good luck with that one.

The 3900 is Brand new and will have Variable induction, cylinder deactivation, and make 240 hp. the Engine is as good as, if not better then the 3.6 HFV6.

I thought they were getting better and better, but i guess i assumed wrong. GM is always going to be GM. But ill wait until i see the interior to completly dismiss it

One thing I hope has improved are the rear taillights (not shown). To this day I still can't get used to the current generation's round lenses.

if these are the engines..the only engine that sounds good is the v-8 but the only prob is is that its driving the wrong wheels..

No OHV engine can ever be as sophisticated as a modern DOHC with VVT.

I really don't like the styling...not one bit.

Dodger
01-01-2005, 04:33 PM
I am not really to sure about the styling either. I must say though that I think it is better than the Malibu. I wish there were a few more pics so we could get a better idea. I guess we will know in a couple of days.

Is the Impala RWD or FWD?

Dodger
01-02-2005, 07:58 PM
This one will be FWD I do believe. There is the rumor that the next gen after this new one will be RWD. So no time soon.

Would have been a good looking car 10 years ago.

All things considered, I think this is a cleanly styled car. We all need to wait and see what the car looks like in some good pictures. Also, I am very curious about the interior. I'm sure this will be a strong seller for GM.

What's up with the american sedans design? Most of them are uninspired at best. Only 300C and some caddies are quite interesting.

the problem with American design is htat hte companies cater to AMerican tastes, which largely put function and ergonomics over style and passion. In other words american cars are highly useable and versatile but boring and bland as hell by design.
Thanks Innotech
As far as market share is concerned, American cars are shrinking as we speak. They need to look at other carmakers, espeically cars from German, from Japan, and the uprising of Korean cars, to find its own success. I hate to say it, market share for American-badged cars will continue to shrink and drop more and more if nothing is done in the near future

I think it is too soon to call the death of the American sedan. I think the Impala is another good start and will continue its sales sucess. Here are some others that I predict will gain market momentum in the coming 12 months:
Pontiac G6
Buick Lacrosse
Buick Lucerne
Saturn Aura (or whatever it ends up being called)
Ford Fusion
Ford Five Hundred
Mecury Milan
Chrysler 300
Dodge Charger
These are all cars that are cleanly styled and offer a lot for the money.

No one ever said American sedans are dead, they are just going downstream as foreign baged cars are on the uprising - this has been the trend for years now, and it will continue to happen if American automakers don't get their act together, soon.
Also, I wouldn't finalize that list yet. Of the cars that are already on the market (that's on this list), the only one is having success is the 300. Please give some time, as many of this new cars are either brand new debuted, or coming soon. I would wait six months and then provide some report cards on those cars you have mentioned. BTW, I would also a few Caddy models on that list, just a thought

I agree time is needed which is why I stated that the momentum would be in the coming 12 months. I didn't include the Cadillac CTS and the STS since they are higher end vehicles and wouldn't fall into the mainstream buyers shopping list. But, you are correct they too are ones to watch in the coming months.

The only american styled cars with design promise are coming from DCX. GM is a let down. Ford just doesn't seem to be trying (except for the Mustang, that's pretty sweet). It almost seems like they are just giving up and putting things out because they are supposed to. They aren't even trying.

This is horrid. I'm glad Bryan Nesbitt left Chrylser. Wasn't he the mor.....er person in charge of the HHR? That things looks terrible, and now this? What is GM gonna do when Chevy falls into the hole?
