In addition, our correspondent (Kido) from Korea has confirmed that the new TG (XG) will be powered by a 3.8L V6 engine, and puts out 270ps, which is over 266 hp (after conversion) <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/beigesmilewinkgrin.gif" BORDER="0">

I'm glad it gets the 3.8L with about 265+HP, especially since the new Avalon has 270HP.

I should mention that a friend that just returned from Korea to watch the TG crash testing that they were informed of 300hp TG's being tested. Now granted that's before they get slammed with emmisions standards, but I thought that might be of interest.

300HP!?! Wow...if that's from a V8 I wouldn't be too impressed, but if from a V6 - now that's a different story. Only Acura has pulled that off so far.

megadethmartyr
12-21-2004, 05:33 PM
make definate note that the likelyhood of the U.S. version having that is pretty small. The 3.3L can be tuned to 270 (before U.S. emmisions), so the idea of tuning a 3.8L to 300 isn't that far off.

would love to see the interior of this car, hope its up to the avalon's. With the avalon rivaling engine and the pretty impressive sonata, it shows that Hyundai is now a formidable player in the american car market.<p>On the otherhand, all the developments are bland are predictable, I'm just waiting for a day hyundai would blow our minds off. Something like a sports car. Hyundai definitely has the ability, the problem is if they can make it individualistic enough.

This car will be out of the Camry and Accord class. The 2.7L will not be in any XG(TG). Based on that alone I would discredit any info contained in that. Now, the chance of the 3.3L in it isn't that far off, remember the flexibilty of that engine (up to 270 hp). There is a chance it might show up in other markets. As of right now, the 3.8L will be in the U.S. market. The reason I don't see the 3.3L in the XG (TG) is being that to tune it as high as it would need to be to compete well with Avalons/Maximas/TL's, you would lose MPG's, whereas the 3.3L can easily be tuned that high without sacrificing the MPG's. Long story short, reguarding Hyundai, don't believe anything any magazine says unless it has come DIRECTLY from Hyundai or a Hyundai source. They are all just guessing, and from that report, guessing badly. I also got a kick out them trying to make a drawing look like it was moving. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/1orglaugh.gif" BORDER="0"> It must be real <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/laugh2.gif" BORDER="0">

I can say for sure that last pic is totally wrong. Found out just a few minutes ago that there is only a slight difference in rear tail light between the XG and Sonata. The front ends are ver similar as well. The XG will have the turn signal indicators on the side mirrors. The C-pillar is different as well. Someone made a decent attempt with that pic, except for the back, that's not right at all.

I personally am the opposite from DoMiNo<p>I think the TG's interior is great, while I'm still iffy on the Avalon's interior. The Maxima's is great, though I'll admit ergonomics need a little bit of help (stereo and A/C controls need some getting used to, and I still managed to burn my ass when I turned on the climate control last time I was in there)

Although Hyundai is not my favorite carmakers, I respect them for making great strides in improving its cars. Five years ago, I would never consider purchasing one, but now I am seriously thinking about adding another one into my existing collection. Overall, I believe all car companies are pretty good, some obvisouly better than others. There are many other car makers who are worsen off right now than Hyundai.<BR><BR>

I don't think it would come here that soon but I would estimate sometimes later this year. <p>Here is a crazy idea - there are two more big auto shows left in the US, Chicago and NY, since the Accent is going to be unveiled in Chicago (most likely), I wanna say Hyundai could be planning to unveil the XG replacement in NY, maybe...that would be nice...but then again, the Seoul Motor Show is way later in the month, in April, so if it's going to make its worldwide debut there first, it probably won't come to NYIAS this year. Someone else have any ideas?

Hi. <p>Hyundai Motor to Unveil Luxury Sedan in April to Target Lexus <p>SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's biggest automaker, plans to debut a new sedan in April to challenge Lexus luxury sedans, one of the world's best-selling vehicles from Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor Corp., a company official said Wednesday. <p>The new car, code named "TG," which will first be introduced at an auto show in Ilsan, north of Seoul, is a successor to the luxury brand Grandeur XG, the official said. <p>Hyundai Motor plans to begin selling the new model in South Korea in early May, the official said <br>"We will introduce the new Grandeur XG at the 2005 Seoul Motor Show in April," the official said on condition of anonymity. <p>The event is scheduled to run from April 28 to May 8 at an exhibition center in Ilsan, according to the company. <p>The new vehicle's six-valve engine, manufactured by Hyundai Motor, improves horsepower by 25 percent and consumes 5 percent less fuel. <p>Hyundai Motor plans to sell two new Grandeur XG models, each offered with engine displacement of 2,700 cc and 3,300 cc. <p>Details of their price were still being set, the company said. <p>Hyundai Motor announced earlier it targets 36.2 trillion won (US$34.9 billion) in sales this year, up 12 percent from last year. <p>The company aims to become one of the world's top five automakers by 2010. <br>(END)<br>From: <A HREF="http://english.yna.co.kr/Engnews/20050119/320000000020050119094925E5.html" TARGET="_blank">http://english.yna.co.kr/Engne....html</A><p>This seems to be correct compared to details from a financial report for Mobis.<br>"Mobis Asan Plant (annual<br>capacity 300,000 units) is currently supplying the EF, NF (New Sonata), XG with the<br>chassis module and the NF with the cockpit and front-end module. If the world wide debut is to be done in April in Korea it won't make the NY show. However, don't forget that LA has moved their show to November, so that means that there is another chance of a US debut since LA will have two shows this year.

Source: just-auto.com editorial team<br> <br>Hyundai Motor plans to challenge Toyotas premium Lexus brand in the United States with the redesigned Grandeur (XG) sedan which makes its world debut at the Geneva motor show in March.<p>The new model is scheduled to go on sale in the US the largest export market for both Hyundai and Lexus in July or August.<p>The outgoing XG350 sedan currently on sale in the US has a 3.5-litre V6 but the redesigned car will have a new 3.8-litre V6 that is 25% more powerful and more efficient, a Hyundai Motor spokesman in Seoul told just-auto.<p>The redesigned XG is part of Hyundai Motors plan to unveil seven new or significantly redesigned cars by 2006. The Korean company plans to be one of the worlds top five automakers by 2010.<p>We will launch the new model in the US market but dont plan, at this point, to sell it in Europe, Hyundai Motor spokesman Oles Gadacz said. Even if we [did decide to] sell it in Europe, the volume would be very small because we sell only 6,000 units of the Sonata there a year.<p>Gadacz said the redesigned XG will be shipped to the US from South Korea rather than being assembled alongside the Sonata in Hyundais brand-new Alabama plant, due to open in March.<p>Hyundai Motor launched the then-new XG350 in Europe and the UK about four years ago. Hyundai UK spokesman Rodney Kumar said that 752 cars were sold in the UK. "We sold about 250 a year in the just under three years we had it on sale and that was about the rate we expected," he added.<p> <br>

If I am correct (and I believe I am) the next gen XG will be built on a drastically redone Sonata platform that will be shared with the new Santa Fe. Should be a more obvious size difference than the current versions.

If the new XG has the power improvements and a slick body, I will definitely get one. I have an XG 300 and it is fantastically reliable, smooth, and fast enough for what it is. Hyundai is on a roll. I bought my XG when my Jeep died because it was cheap, had 0% financing, and a forever warranty. The car has been in the shop once for a total of 45 minutes. Awesome car. Toyota and Honda should fear Hyundai's emergence.

I love the spy photo of the new XG prototype next to the current XG. They have made it just sufficiently larger that it will be a true competitor to the Toyota Avalon which is probably the benchmark. Yeah I know Lexus has been mentioned but in the North American market Hyundai's bogey is likely the Avalon. This will get interesting once it's available.

The KDM XG was available with rear seat options like rear air, seat heaters, and such but they never made it to other markets. I doubt they will with the TG either. Just look at the sonata, its not even available with nav in the NA market so do you think rear seat heaters will make it to the NA TG? I wish they would offer such options to the major outside markets but i doubt it. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/nixweiss.gif" BORDER="0">

i checked my info before posting.<br>President of hyundai addressed last year about their plan to build their line up. He said new sonata is designed to go head to head to with honda accord and then new TG for lexus es330 and new 5 series fighter is on the way. Its code name is BH. Nasic engine will be 3.8 V6 and larger engine is on development. It is planned to be launched on end of 2006 in korea. equus is completely different car with different concept. It is limo instead of sports sedan. There is good possibility new eqqus will be only for korean market again, or it will be designed to oppose lesux ls430, if they decide to launch in US. <br>Also on dual exaust, two outlets are actual working outlet since new sonata. i wonder where you got your info from. <BR><BR>

You are right on everything you have written except for one thing. The Equus comes in either sedan or limo. The dual exhausts are two muffler, two tips set up. The bigger engine is a new V8 to replace the old Mitzu designed 4.5L currently used in the Equus. I get my info from Hyundai, direct, not second hand. <BR><BR>

They aren't production. they are just test cars. There isn't anything wrong with the car. Now you're just trying to find something wrong. ON the grill thing, other than they are trying to see which one they like better. Last I heard it was going to be like the first picture, but I have also heard that Xenon light will be an option.

I was fortunate to see the new XG when out in in Cali a few weeks ago. From the front it was tough to tell it apart from the Sonata (until I got close that is). Sorry no pics, they wouldn't let a camera (or phone with one in it) anywhere near it. It shows the family identity that will be shown in the future models though. The side profile is beautiful and well done rear. Definately doesn't look like an "old person's" car anymore.

good info...i don't know about europe but this means the base engine for NA should be 3.3, pushing around the same horsepower as the new Sonata, at 237 range. I hope they would have the 3.8 as the top engine choice, hoping for somewhere around 270.<p>As far as the interior, from the spy shots I have seen so far, I believe it is on par with the Avalon, then again, it's just my view <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/beigesmilewinkgrin.gif" BORDER="0">

As far as the interior, yes, you can expect Avalon class interior. What people seem to forget is that Hyundai is VERY capable of executing that sort of car. They have some of the seepest pockets out there. Especially with the upscale push the brand is making, there should be no question of their ability to make it the equal or better than an Avalon.

Andre

3.8 already debuted in the Sedona. Mega, Domestic market means the car's home market, Foreign means where the car is shipped to, or a country which poduces the car while it doesn't hold the home offices<p>So for the US Ford is Domestic, for Korea Ford is Foreign.<p>So when he said "the Domestic Market" he meant that would be the options in Korea.

Looks like it's closer in size to, or between the Altima and Maxima, much smaller than the Avalon and Lucerne. I wonder how they'll position it, more of a competitor to the Maxima or to the Avalon?

knicks125
02-25-2005, 05:37 PM
from the publicity so far Hyundai says they are going to compete with Lexus which I believe they will, espeically since this car will be the starting point for Hyundai's luxury division, although Avalon is more realistic<p>maybe this car can be compared to the Maxima but I believe this car would be a lot better than the Maxima, inside and out. And, as far as the Altima and the Lucerne, there's no way they are even in the same league as this XG replacement. Altima is a midsize sedan which is losing its life considering the number of new midsize sedans that are showing up recently. Lucerne is an underpowered V8 which tries to appeal to a younger crowd in addition to its current crowd (of avg. consumer age of 61) but probably aren't going to be successful.<p>So, to conclude, I would compare the XG replacement mostly with Avalon, and that'd be it. I just can't see anything else that comes close, if what I know is correct, you'd be surprised how good this car look when it is unveiled in just a few days <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/beigesmilewinkgrin.gif" BORDER="0">

Such as why do they keep on making these Ford 500, Passat like designs. I mean come on show some damn creativity. Oiii I hate the US market so much. My guess is that Hyundai will go the luxury route. My XG is a total luxocruiser with just enough good handling to not be sloppy. It was a total hunch purchase for me. When I got it, I also had a Rabbit GTi, a Corrado VR6, and a new Beetle with full suspension makeover. The XG is not a sportscar but it is competent. I would suspect that Hyundai is going for the largest market and will bias the new car pretty much like the old one. I assume the body will be a lot stiffer torsionally which will add even more precision.

megadethmartyr
02-26-2005, 02:10 PM
You are very correct in the fact that Hyundai went the route of cruiser with the current XG. Korean Caddy if you will. The next gen though is expected to mix of ride and handling courtesy of the active geometry suspension derived form the new sonata. Having been able to drive the new Sonata, I would dare say the TG, if it can pull it off the way the new Sonata does, should make it a major player in it's class.

If the rear is any indication- I think Hyundai is going to blow a lot of skeptics away with this offering- hopefully they pulled off the same elegance in the front. Offer this at decent price, follow through on the NAVI and a mainstream winner will be born. YEAH!

This thing is truly amazing coming from what used to be a lackluster company<p>This thing will of course be a big hit. It would be an even bigger hit if some people could get over their "I only buy American made products" attitude<p>Since these are official pics, any more should go to the new cars section
