I don't like FIAT's front ends at all...very generic and early-1990s.

With FIATs i always have the feeling that they look already dated from the very begining. FIAT is playing safer everytime.

Well, you can count on it.. It has been shot inside the factory..

Laguna
01-20-2005, 05:10 AM
It must be shot in a factory. The 5 door must be a sporting. Look how low the front end is. Why is that pipe coming out of the exhaust? Why is the grille and the badge on the bumper? What a silly place to put it. They should put it between the front lights.

carrera4
01-20-2005, 05:35 AM
when you test the car indoor (to record the noise emission for example) the exhaust gas must be catched...
The front end mock the maserati coupé style, that's why the grille is under the line of front lights.

It's just a matter of time before a takeover will happen.
I'm starting to believe that this is GM's longthinking way of eliminating competitors. They get some influence into another carmaker, forces them to make ugly cars and the terminate the company when they have full shares. Long story short:
GM owns 10% of FIAT, but there is the infamous put option which means that FIAT can force
GM to buy the rest of it... (GM thinks it not valid anymore).
This agreement alway dictates a strategic partnership where FIAT cannot make new joint partnerships other that with GM...

FIAT Punto, one of the most popular European smal city car (Segment B) will be revealled late March... and it will look a lot like the first pictures... wait and see..

If that is a real photo (and not a photoshop) that Tommaso13 presented us with I think I'm starting to come around and warming to this car. It looks much better than the red car above or the the rest of the more or less legit pictures gave me reason to think. Still not too fond of the Audi/VW rip-off grill or the headlights, but otherwise.... It has some presence, doesn't it? It will probably look better in the flesh as well.

Truly fantastic!!! I find that in Italy it will remain newly to the apex in the sales! Goodness knows if in Europe considerable slice of market will succeed to earn one! Pardoned English, I have written it through the translations in Internet, why I speak only in Italian.

I have the feeling that this car won't be named Punto.
I know that Fiat current policy is to recover successful or famous car names (Panda, Croma, 159 etc.), but the general look of the car (especially the front end) and its increased dimensions suggest me the adoption of a new or different name.
Even "new Uno"! Who knows...?

It is a very nice car and I am sure it will boost FIAT sales all over Europe.
Last month, very silently, FIAT changed the trim levels, colour choices and interior cloth
on the Punto, which is a strange move if the car only had another 3-4 months of life... so I am pretty sure they will keep the production of the current Punto for some time before it is phased out.
However, the Punto name is nice , fresh and catchy... so I wouldn't like them to drop it.. unless they can come up with something nice...
The original plans was for a 3.90 m car... but I have a feeling from looking on the photos that is a bit bit bigger... maybe about 4.00 m

I'd buy one! (not in black though, don't think it does the car any favours)

Quote
Last month, very silently, FIAT changed the trim levels, colour choices and interior cloth
on the Punto, which is a strange move if the car only had another 3-4 months of life... so I am pretty sure they will keep the production of the current Punto for some time before it is phased out.
Yeah the current punto has another year to go before production is ended, they'll have one trim level called "Classic", Fiat quite rightly don't see it hurting the new Punto

looks good, although i don't know why fiat would put a completely undisguised new punto out in the open before any official pictures are released still, this punto is looking very promising; hopefully it'll be something of a hit

Those rims are beautiful. Very good to see FIAT back to designing attractive, understandable designs. I just hope the quality and the reliability are there.

Woww, mad rear end with all new punto logo look and styling. Now that's the most coolest production hatchback from Fiat i've seen for long time, and this car will be here next year with croma when Fiat cars comes back here. I'm very sure this car would be very popular like Mazda3, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus and Holden Astra. Welcome back Fiat!!!!

punto is smaller than the cars you mentioned which are VW Golf size
Consider the new Holden/Opel Corsa (don't know the name in Australia) will be a twin of Punto, just different front and rear
Gian86
07-22-2005, 02:07 AM
Yeah, you right but it does look similar size to those many models. If Opel Corsa brings here as holden Corsa (Not Barina), it could also sell well like Punto (hopely). So that means it could against many other small car models like the new Toyota Echo or Holden Barnia (Daewoo Kalos).
wow it looks great, welcome back Fiat, i own a 2001 Punto, (before the VW like facelift), and i'd have no hesitation in buying a new one. I see Fiat have started the advertising campaign already, they've teamed up with TIM in Italy and on one of their adverts, the Punto's new logo can be seen.

Gian05 from what has been said by the press and Holden itself there are NO PLANS on bringing the new Opel Corsa to succeed the Holden Barina nor has anyone suggested that the Corsa will be sold in its new shape alongside the "new" Barina(Kalos).Where did you get that info from mate?
Anyway this Punto looks mad!100% Italian at last, way to go Fiat!I can see this car sit next to an Alfa Romeo or a Maserati and look right at home.Only thing im not sure i like is the view from the back,i just hope it doesnt look as weird from a distance as the Focus MK2 looks from some angles.Thumbs up anyway!

looks like the interior is a massive step forward in quality over the current model, only hope that colour scheme is optional!!!!!
But hopefully whatever the colour scheme this car will take Fiat back to profit, which it rightly should do.

Only problem I see with the Punto is the C-Pillar (I think its the C-Pillar, the space between the rear side window and the end of the car)
Wouldn't there be too much of a blind spot?

toby2449
07-26-2005, 06:24 AM
yeah the c-pliiar does look a bit on the thick side, but i drive a 2001 5dr Punto which itself has a thick c-pillar and i've never found it a problem. I can't wait to test drive one when they finally get to Ireland.
The one thing i hope they do get right is the ride, whilst its a great little car for the back roads, it can get tiring the amount of stiffness thats in the suspension when you just want to take it easy, i seem to feel every bump and lump in the road (having said that Irish roads are awful)

the interior looks great in that second pic. The little piece of glass infront of the wingmirrors looks like a speaker or something.

Yeah i know too but now after fiat and GM broke up, there's no shared model platform between those two companies in the future.
Today, official pics are up so i made Fiat Punto in New Cars section. I think this version might be called Grande Punto (i guess).
