I sure hope that Jaguar learns about some safety techniques from Volvo, since the X-Type got a marginal in side-impact testing...

That does look really good, but I hope Jaguar uses a bit less retro in the final design than in the pictures. Some of their more recent concepts look great; very distinctive and modern, they should use more cues from those concepts.

The X-Type may have, but the 2005 S-Type got very good safety ratings (4 stars for front side and 5 stars for rear side impact).

But the S-Type has only been tested by NHTSA. They do tests with a midsize car colliding into the subject whereas the IIHS uses a full-size pickup to collide into the car, making it a much harder test to pass.

As far as the choppers imagination go, I think no one knows for sure how the new jaguar elements would be implemented in the future S-type, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ian Callum would not disappoint.<p>On a different note, if the aluminum chasis shows good advantage, I think Jaguar engineers should make a 300hp V6 out of fords Duratec 35. This would give the S-type V8 performance for V6 price and economy considering the car wieghs less than V6 rivals. IMO it could be a great marketting tool for Jaguar.

Codenamed X250, the new S-type (expected in spring 2007 at the earliest) will be built around an aluminium chassis, but insiders say it is not exactly the same under-structure as the XJs.<p>Problems highlighted when engineering the new XK sports car  which is based on the XJ  have led to an overhaul of Jaguars aluminium monocoque. Sources say the new chassis should be much cheaper to produce, among other advantages. The improvement is so marked that the XJ replacement has been brought forward.<p>Meanwhile, the facelifted XJ (codenamed X357) is also due in 2007. Expect a new nose, tail and dash design.<p>We also hear the S-type will follow the XJ in breaking the long, low look established with the XJ6 in 1968. The bottom pic looks like a cross between a rover 75 touring and the RD-6.<p>I'm not to sure what i think of it actually :S

I thought jaguar were trying to wean themselves off the old designs and attempting a more modern approach like the new xk.<br>The images in this post (if correct) are what the present s-type should have looked like when launched..<br>...the overall design is very reminiscent of the original mkII from the 60,s<p>I like it but it is not very modern... I think we all know that a lot of jaguars problems stem from their inability to use fresh design's.. The new xj is a fab car but suffers, as it looks 2much like the original model.<p>Please Jag be creative and use a modern approach to designing your next s-type ..the present one has hardly been a rounding success<br>

To me the new styling looks too much like the current car. Jaguar is standing still in styling. The new XJ is a gorgeous car but it does not look forward. The S-Type needs to wow people by taking a risk with some serious show car looks that make it to the street. We can only hope that the new XK doesn't get too watered down from its concept car.
