the car looks very sporty in those chops. will that rear spoiler affect rear view visability? it seems a bit impractical

I used to have a Mercedes Sportscoup and it had the same kinda spoiler and it did not affect the visibility towards the back. So I am guessing it will be alright here, too if it ever gets put into the final model.

I wonder how different the U.S. version will be compared the Euro/Asian market versions. I hope they bring back the wishbone front suspension, and give it at least 160 hp for the EX trim 200 for the SI trim.
I may be wrong but a current exchange rates a 20,000. pound car would cost 36,000.00 dollars in the U.S. OUCH!

The rear photoshop doesn't look that bad...it's the profile view that looks awful.

Another impression from Mag-X, who claim the nose will be similar to the Japanese-market Odyssey (and the larger Elysion minivan).
https://gateway.nifty.com/serv...1.jpg
(silly thing keeps changing the address)

I like the first chops better than the Mag-X. Of course MAg-X frequently goes a little wild with their chops and get the wrong. The first chops are a little too out there for me, but I could live with that design.

Could you imagine this car with type-S AWD? Probably would be cost prohibitive, but think of the handling...

I'm thinking on that rear door.....isn't it a bit like the RX-8? I mean, it's way too small. Will this be the only available body or will there be a high 5 door like the current one?. If so, would there be two 4-door bodies in the lineup?
My guess is, they will radically change the Civic "concept" just like they have done several times in the past. Forget about the practical Civic, this time it's about looks and fun.

240hp 2.4L Type R version. That would be quite intereting as the golf and focus are going V6. Suddenly V6s are creeping into C segment cars, when only a few years ago D segment cars couldn't afford it.
Its only a matter of time for us to see a V6 in a VW polo, they started the C segment V6 anyways.

Eugh, horrible. It looks disgusting, and I thought the current version coldn't get any worse.
But anyway, the four should be able to easily take it up to its larger engined competitors, just look at the long line of absolutely stunning fours they've made; my guess is that they'll slightly revise the K20A and fit it into the Civic Type-R.

What I noticed that the front doesn't even look like a real thing.
It looks like the honda badge and the entire front grill was just painted using a computer graphics program (like painting a car on canvass).

I'm definitely not considering this as an official version and I'd bet that the official one will obviously look better (or at least I think it should be).

Honda should have done what it does best with designs, safe and not offensive. They don't do interesting very well. The core of Civic buyers will run away. For the record, that thing is ugly, but Honda sheep will line up for it, "because it's Honda" . HONDA IS BRINING TURBO ENGINES TO THE US?!
http://www.honda-acura.net/ind...d=125
January 27, 2005 -- From recently obtained inside information given exclusively to Honda-Acura.Net by an email tipster, we have verified the engines that will be featured in the 2006 Honda Civic, 2007 Honda Fit and possibly the 2007 Acura TSX, plus other engines that have unknown destinations. Our source reports that Honda is in the final stages of development for three new engines destined for the US, including a 2.0L 4 cylinder and a 2.4L 4 banger. One of these engines will probably be slotted into the Civic Si, respectively. Whats more, Honda is bringing to market its first US application of a turbocharger in the form of a 2.4L Turbo. This engine will presumably be fitted into the Acura TSX, or perhaps even a high output Civic slotted above the Si. Also, our source has confirmed that Honda is developing a new 1.3L hybrid engine, a 1.5L and a 1.8L. The 1.5L, originally scheduled for launch in MY2006, has been delayed until MY2007 but it will be built in the US.

Undoubtedly the biggest surprise of this batch is that Honda has chosen to introduce a turbocharged engine in the US. While our source could not confirm whether or not it would be a DOHC i-VTEC, he hinted that it would not be affixed to the current K24 engine that Honda uses in the TSX, Accord and Element. No horsepower figures are available, but expect the Civic Sis powerplant to produce around 200 horses while the turbo should make about 250. The new 1.3L Hybrid engine will probably see duty in either a Fit Hybrid or the next iteration of the Honda Insight. The Fit, Hondas wildly popular car in Europe and Japan, will probably start at around $12,000 when it reaches US shores.

I think everyone will be surprised at how different US version looks from spyshots. I have seen the car and it looks different to pics posted from Europe.
This is a US concept too. It will look like the new American coupe but it is not the Si that will sell in 2006. Maybe a new US Civic thread is in order?

Confusion with Acura will not be from appearance. This Civic will look less like Acura than the poor quality photograph might indicate. In truth performance will be bigger issue. This Si is Honda's M3. Will render RSX models pointless so they will be retired. The thinking is this will better separate Acura from Honda.

carlisimo
02-09-2005, 08:44 PM
I'd call the type R Honda's M3. The Si is a 'lite' version... Honda's purposely kept the Si from reaching into RSX range.
I can see this Civic Si moving into what was previously RSX territory, but only because I can see Honda killing off the RSX altogether.

is this a concept car? it looks like one to me. if it isn't, then i don't really like the front too much; the headlights are odd and i wish they could paint the grille body color.

The rear is nice... but to me it screams Scion tC.
Overall I'm unimpressed. Especially since the production version will dilute what is already a very, very staid design.
Doesn't get me going....
*EDIT* Are we sure this isn't the next-gen RSX? This would fit in well to Acura's lineup, designwise.

Just needs a few adjustments but it's a good start.
Perhaps, they can add turn-signal mirrors and make them standard on all variants, versions and body styles of the upcoming CIVIC.

Just add turn-signal mirrors and that thing will completely resemble the European Accord.

The sculpted design implies a more sporty nature to Honda’s best ever selling model. The 8th generation promises to deliver class exceeding performance as well as high fuel efficiency across all engines, which will take the model into “Premium” C-segment in Europe.
Honda believes that the next generation Civic will set new standards in the ever demanding C segment, particularly in the premium sector. Wider and lower than the current Civic, the next Civic will continue to be built in Honda’s European manufacturing plant in Swindon, UK. The award winning i-CTDi engine will be part of the Civic line-up and will be assembled at the UK factory. Yes, I am liking this too. Honda is "compensating" for the poor 7th gen Civic with these improved 8th gen versions. Tech and performance will compensate as well, I am sure.
Have not heard anything but the small doors could indicate that there may not be a three door variant. Not a bad thing to me. Is there a need for a two door version with this coupe-like body form?
Also, I wonder if this may be the body used for the US hybrid? I would hope so, if only to make it look stand out and to keep it as practical as a Prius. But being built in Swindon, England may make that a long shot.

Sadly, Honda is looking for larger volume products than a CRX variant will allow. The last CRX, as much as we all enjoyed it, did not sell well. It is simply a very small niche market. Complicating this is the recent safety for everyone initiative. Honda is very wary of introducing a small, light weight Civic into roads full of SUVs right now.

I wonder what the rear end cap/tailgate solution will be as on the concept the tailgate appears to be the leading edge of the bumper. Pushing the tailgate edge back while maintaining the major theme of those neat bevelled forms are the crux of the matter.
The breakdown of that blacked out rear window into 2 separate forms divided by the spoiler is probably the oddest aspect of the design. I guess the added height gives it better aero, and more space, and sometimes odd aspects do make it more interesting...the octagonal shape is nice, and its repitition in the trailing edge of the hood/bonnet is also. Overall I think its fantastic.

IMO, this is (almost) EXACTLY what the car will look like once in production (mirrors/indicators, brilliant orange colour among others, weird split rear screen AND all-tranparent front end included...)
As far as the latter is concerned, the overall theme/surface treatment for the front works a bit TOO well for actually it NOT to be the (almost) final version of it! [Incidentally, they could make even MORE surprising by playing with light around the Honda logo...]
I cannot really substanciate why, but it seems kind of logic that Honda, after a few brilliant, but dull-ish looking car, would actually launch a "stunner" on the market - and what better occasion that making itself, ahem, "noticed" in the most important segment in Europe, with an important name like Civic (incidentally, I must admit, this is a perfectly good reason for NOT putting this car into production: but then this should be WAY different from the actual production model, and we KNOW this is not the case, right?)
This car would stand out from the rest (AND with a very trendy - at least in Europe - orange garb), or at least align itself with the 'quirky' Mgane and C4...

Having said that, the rear looks a bit stubby, and the rear door a tad small... but overall it's such a GREAT improvement on the existing model (exterior styling-wise): i can't wait to see it on the street!
