Is this the car that Alfa will use to re-enter the U.S. market?

Santeno

As I underdtand it, there is no confirmation yet as to whether Alfa will re-enter the US. They have to solve their squabble with GM before any of that happens.

This car is turning out to be another classic, the shape is so fluid and emotional, Although less striking than the concept it would be a sightful car onthe streets.

I thought this car was just a concept. Im glad to be mistaken tho because this car is a real good looker. Fingers-crossed it has good quality.

the street car is shorter (90mm) and narrower (80mm).
The platform of the production Brera is the new 939 (157/158), so completely different

The only quibble I have about this car is that it looks more like a Shooting Brake model - not a coupe.

The GM/Fiat financial mess is probably the #1 reason why Alfa is not coming back to the USA. If the "put" is upheld then Alfa might return, but then where does it fit? My guess is that GM will not be required to buy Fiat out and that will mean that Alfa is not soon to return.

iakovos

GM and FIAT are heading towards a divorce.. so the only way that Alfa-Romeo is coming back to US is via Ferrari-Maserati ...

I assume this car is 156 or 157 based?

157, in fact the front of the car will be almost identical

I have to say I like it a bit better than the Z's hatch to convertible transformation. That window is a rather clever disguise idea, but I'd sure hate to be the test driver.

No, these shots are very new. Why do some guys always think when a new model is presented (159) that all the prototypes are destroyed from one day to the other??? They are still in use for a very long time cause they are full with test equipment and they had been very expensive!

The new coupe will be called Brera and share its underpinnings with the 159, replacement for the seven-year-old 156 saloon and Sport Wagon. The Brera coupe will be launched later in 2005, followed shortly by the rag-top pictured here, which will be badged GTC. Expect the front-drive Spider to arrive with 2.0-litre JTS four-cylinder and 3.2 V6 JTS petrol engines, possibly with four-wheel drive as an option. And while a diesel version had been discounted earlier, Italiaspeed.com reports that a prototype has been spotted with the 2.4 JTD diesel under its bonnet. That would certainly be in line with the current trend toward diesel convertibles.
These spyshots also reveal that the GTC Spider will eschew the current vogue for metal folding roofs in favour of a conventional fabric version, the metal ribs of which are plainly visible through the disguise. The pictures also reveal that the rear window is solid glass, which is a first for an Alfa Spider.

A bit more info:
http://www.italiaspeed.com/200....html

The look of this design is already starting to get old to me. It definently looks good, but I don't think it will endure.

taskbearer
08-24-2005, 06:28 PM
Only time would be the judge of that. Considering the design is only two years old since the brera concept, its too early for the design to get old.
I on the other hand think the design is timeless. When the SLR first came out in 2003, I felt the design was getting old after seeing it for 4 yrs, but with time it looks fresher than ever. The brera although not as stunning as the concept, would still for yrs to come.

Is the Brera FWD, RWD or AWD?

carlisimo
08-24-2005, 08:55 PM
AWD, on an FWD platform. I don't know the details about the AWD system though...

iakovos
08-25-2005, 03:35 PM
2.2 JTS 185 HP is FWD
3.2 JTS 260 is 4WD with 3 differentials, the middle being a Torsen Class C locking one.
Later 2007+ there will be a 4.2 V8 version, 4WD, the engine being the Maserati one.

Dont import it to the States unless you really are well off financially and have lost of patience. Alfa Romeo's have dealers all over Europe as expected, but even here where you can buy these cars officially, lots of ppl are frustrated by the lack of available parts when needed. In Cyprus, where i originate from, lots of ppl are put-off Alfa's because spare parts are not always available and when they are they cost a lot of money. Same thing in the UK from what ive heard. Imagine what it will be like for you in the US when you dont even have any Alfa dealers. Not trying to make you feel bad mate, just think its something you need to think over very well...you still got great cars such as the new GT500 Mustang convertible or even the amazing Corvette ZO6, and those are much bigger and faster and probably cost less there right?

Only "negative" thing i can think of about the Spider are those over-familiar Alfa rims. They are looking too dated by now, id love to see the GTA style ones or something more original. That is one of the things i dont like about the Golf R32 as well. Good thing Ford decided to ditch them for new ST i reckon. They just look too common nowadays.

does the alfa really cost 65k? cuz thats what the z06 starts at or around. also, maybe by the time i can drive an expensive car, alfa will be in america by then, and they will have their reliability problems fixed.

CosworthKid
10-30-2005, 02:05 PM
Dunno about the price thing yet but you got my point mate The Corvette seems like a bargain car from where i stand and its one of the few American cars that got top reviews from well respected car magazines like Top Gear who gave it 17/20, a rating that even Ferrari or Lambo would envy! So yeah, by the time Alfa makes it to the US market then it will surely be an option to lose some sleep over!

The coupe should look significantly better. The long rear deck really has a negative impact on the design. Also, the high back end is made for, and thus looks much better on, a hatchback. Same idea as on the PT Cruiser convertible. I give this a C+

The cloth roof looks very funny, as if its trying to fit or something. In a sense it reminds me of the old classic Spider but i do feel it makes it looks awkward and a bit low-tech compared to the way the rest of the car looks.Still a very nice car though
