Why would Acura be testing and hiding something that's been in showrooms for four years?
It's hard to see in this photo, but Brenda says that the entire side of this vehicle is clad in vinyl. The only things that appear mildly different are the fuel filler opening and perhaps the headlights. The rest of the hard points appear virtually identical.
For comparison purposes, I've included a shot of a 2003 MDX press car that we had. It's the only side view photo I could find of a production MDX. The mule appears to have a front clip very similar to the 2004 MDX.
Spy Shot, hit go if Forbidden comes up
http://sohc.vtec.net/news_file...1.jpg
2004 Acura MDX hit go if Forbidden comes up
http://sohc.vtec.net/news_file...a.jpg
Source: http://www.vtec.net

http://www.vtec.net/news/news-...53958

Quote, originally posted by carrera4 »

from Motorline.cc
http://box.motorline.cc/slides...12869
http://box.motorline.cc/slides...12870
http://box.motorline.cc/slides...12871

MDX is almost at the end of its life cycle so there has been a lot of speculations last year about possible spy shots, and it's been known for sometimes now a "FMC" (full model change) is in the plans for 06 or 07MY. I found one thread we have on it but not much new info...anyway...

02-02-2006, 06:40 PM
would have thought that with searches using Acura on its own, MDX and Acura MDX that I would have spotted this existing thread. Thanks for the switch Admins

If im not wrong those spy shots were for the MDX when it got its Mid-Cycle Refresh. Not for the all new MDX for 2007/2008

02-02-2006, 07:21 PM
where did you get these details?

02-02-2006, 07:37 PM
I remember posting, for it whne the MDX was due for its refresh.

They don't usually test them like this (check out the towing rig set up at the back), for simple detail changes that the updated MDX got. Its an engineering mule for sure.........

They also seem to have changed the position of where you fill gas from.

It's all new, from what my friends at Honda tell me. They're trying to become an authentic "performance" brand so it's supposed to be very sporty with much better styling. They did clinics a few weeks ago and it did very well...

02-03-2006, 03:46 PM
Supposedly being announced in NYAIS in April

02-03-2006, 07:02 PM
what are clinics? focus groups?

Well, that's not really it. Essentially, "clinics" are qualitative market research. Qualitative research focuses on "why" people think the way they do -- Most often defined in this country as "focus groups", those overprescribed yet invaluable sources of information and, yes, ridicule. They're often done badly by untrained moderators with an agenda -- Often the product planners at companies or some hack that read a book on it. They're best done by third parties without an agenda.
Quantitative on the other hand are things like surveys and calculable or projectable data. This is usually focused on "what" people think.
The MDX, from what I've heard, did well in the qualitative discussions of the car involving styling and some key features that can't be discussed here.
thanks a lot
my dad is on the list for those things...i wish he got chosen for something like this

Okay so insider info (nothing too big),
*MDx styling finalized.
*Its either a hit or miss...
*If you dont like what they did with the RDx then you probably not gonna like with they did with the new MDx
*The "controversy" over the design is largely with the grille. There is "strong opinions" about the grille.
More info later...

hmm...interesting
any info on when this is coming?

the only similarity between that and the q7 is how the inner part of the tail light swoops up. it looks more like a larger rdx more than anything.

03-28-2006, 12:42 PM
Looks like you were right nstreet16, it is a hit or miss, similar to rdx, and has a controversial grille.
I like how they wanted the front to be audacious but I don't like that the grille is essentially two large metal plates with a slit in the middle and the A-badge.
The headlights are very similar to the Sports4 Concept. To be honest I would have preferred an evolution of the current design, as this looks to similar to me to the RDX judging this sketch, which I know isnt 100% accurate to how it will appear in real life.
I feel it shrunk, which I don't understand why... the RDX was introduced so the MDX could, if anything, grow in size and stature, if nto at least stay the same. Judging from the third panel window, there is little if any room for a third row, which I think what was made th eoriginal MDX a hit as one of the first, if not the first, midsize luxury suv with 7 passenger seating. The XC90, has it, and though the RX350 and FX35 don't, I preferred the roomier interior and third row as opposed to this sportier compact appearance.

03-28-2006, 04:43 PM
Well i see a lot of similarities with recent Mazda concept up-front(and Honda of course, but Mazda started that design first) and a lot of Audi at the back

03-28-2006, 05:09 PM
the similarities are between the RDX more than any other make, so if u compare this to mazda or audi or whatever, it is the RDX that you are comparing it to because that is the true basis

03-28-2006, 06:31 PM
we shouldnt really judge it based on the preliminary sketches. It will look far better in real life and I think the production version will be a hit.

One thing you want to keep an eye on is the possibility that Honda may use the Acura MDX concept to debut its new V-6 turbodiesel engine for the US market, something that Honda CEO Takeo Fukui has admitted is under development.
Derived from the technology used on the well-regarded i-CTDi I-4 turbodiesel engine used on European-market Hondas, the new V-6 will likely be a very refined engine with quiet operation, very good fuel efficiency and clean enough exhaust to meet the 2007 standards in the USA for diesel exhaust emissions. We'll see it on the Acura MDX, Honda Pilot and Honda Ridgeline models, and maybe eventually on the Honda Odyssey minivan, too.

This is the camouflaged picture of the MDX not the RDX.
http://www.thecarconnection.co....html
