This scoop shot shows a test mule for the next-generation Neon, currently sold as a Chrysler in the UK, undergoing cooling tests in the Sierra Nevada in Spain.
Although the car is clearly based on the current Neon, the prototype shows the trademark Dodge nose design and gives some idea of the increased size of the Ford Focus rival. The new platform underpinning the car will be co-developed with DaimlerChrysler ally Mitsubishi (note the Grandis in the background) and it will also underpin the new 06 Lancer. The car is registered in Germany, suggesting Chrysler engineers are getting help from their Mercedes-Benz counterparts in preparing the car for European sales.
The all-new Neon is due in 2006 but wont be followed by its Mondeo-rivalling sister car, the Dodge Stratus, until 2008. But the first Dodge-badged car into Europe will be the brand-defining Viper SRT-10, although it wont be available in right-hand drive.
Eric Ridenour (right), Chryslers executive vice president of product development, told Autocar that Dodge cars will be bold and expressive. Dodge is known in the US for its visually striking trucks, so Dodge cars will be bold and expressive, too.
Ridenour said right-hand drive and diesel engines were now part of product development from the beginning. We are going to be a full-line producer with American flair and an American flavour, he said.
Ridenour also headed the development of the Chrysler 300C saloon and Touring models, which have been extremely well received in the US. These cars are being engineered for right-hand-drive production and the saloon is expected in UK showrooms in October next year. He said that the 300C didnt need to be redesigned or brought up to scratch for sale in Europe.
When we started work on the project we wanted to ensure the handling, ride, NVH and even the panel gaps and design details were to world-class levels. We didnt have to further improve the car for Europe, apart from tweaks to the brakes and tyres.

Quote, originally posted by Patrick »

http://www.autocarmagazine.co....5.jpg
This looks a lot like the Stratus/Sebring replacement pics snapped by LXLover recently - the Avenger or something like that. Often-times with spy photos and single car photos you cant really get a feel for the size of a vehicle, so I took a 2004 SRT 4 and superimposed it over the Neon replacement photos. I figured the wheel sizes looked the same and matched up the bolt pattern. The greenhouse from the A-pillar to the C look almost identical, just shorter. I know this is in not a CSI-like scientific study, but it may put things in a better perspective than a single car shot. Click through for the original pictures.

That autoblog comparison is misleading. For it to be an accurate comparison it would have to be shot at the same focal length and be the same file size.
The roofline for the '06 is about as high as a Pacifica.

The three models are designed to enter the European market with Dodge in the first half of 2006. The orange one is the 5-door 'Dodge Neon Sport Wagon' (??) to be presented 2006/2007, which will be followed by a sporty SRT-5 (i didn't know the engine would be a 5-cylinder... , this paper doesn't understand the naming of the sporty Chrysler / Dodge...).
At the end of 2007 the car in the middle will be presented, it's a Neon SUV.
The blue car shows the Dodge version of a compact, Neon-based Roadster.
Planned engines for all models: 1.8 petrol, 2.0 petrol, 2.4 petrol and a diesel (exclusive for Europe).
Don't ask my why the "SUV" gets elements from the 'Sligshot'-concept and the Roadster doesn't...
I think the complete article is very speculative, although i hope a 5-door Neon will look like that (by the way: the orange and blue ones are featured in the lastest issue of ams in Germany, the article to the drawings say nearly the same as this one in the Austrian paper).

I think they will only share common engines

coolbluelb

If memory serves, it will actually be based off of the same platform as the next generation Lancer.

jwhite
01-11-2005, 07:17 AM
The engines were designed jointly by Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai, and will be made and used by all three - in rather different configurations. For example, Chrysler is using its own home-grown dual-variable-valve technology to control both intake and exhaust valves; Hyundai is not using that system, though it may be working on its own. The result of this, as well as different intakes and other packaging details, will probably result in rather different power outputs for each of the three companies using the same basic engines.
coolbluelb

Engine output for any future SRT-4 is an area subject to wild speculation. The current 2.4l is grossly overbuilt, allowing for considerable modification before damage occurs. I expect the new powerplant would be capable of similar or better stock figures, but will likely be tuned closer to its actual limits.

It would be a good move for Dodge to come out with a roadster that looks like the Razor concept. The compact roadster segment is getting a lot of attention lately with mules of the next-generation Toyota MR and Mazda Miata running around, and with the recent introduction of the Saturn Sky and Saturn Solstice.
On the Neon,
DCX really needs to add power REAR windows to this car...why are the front windows power-operable yet not the rear ones!?! Absolute stupidity...

AMS also had an accompanying article with the posted pictures.
http://auto-motor-und-sport.de/d/73387
Within the article, the magazine quotes Dieter Zetsche on some of the upcoming products. 25 new products before end of 2006, more than half are passenger cars and 8 Jeep vehicles.
Cancellations: ME4-12, M80, Slingshot
Dodge to debut in Europe in 2006 with the following: Viper roadster & coupe, compact SUV based on Cherokee with M80 styling cues (concept to be shown in Chicago in February), Neon replacement called Caliber to be shown in Geneva in March (see pic above), and a Sebring/Stratus sized sports-sedan (probably based on the current Galant) and next PT Cruiser in 2007 (based on new Caliber/Lancer platform). The Caliber and S/S relpacements will be available with FWD and AWD. After 2007, Dodge may get its own version of the COLT/ForFour in Europe only.
JEEP: Will get a Double-Cab pick-up truck resembling the Galdiator, Commander (on sale fall 2005), all-new Wrangler with tradional styling two-door (short wheel base) and four-door (long wheel base) versions, and an entry-level model similar to the old Eagle (think Dodge Avenger...) based on a car platform in body two variations (named Patriot in the US and Compass in Europe).
Hope you all enjoyed this.

Neon MPV Fails To Dodge Snappers

Bosses will be hoping for a glowing report on the new Neon. The mag's exclusive spy shot shows the top-secret prototype - and the big news is it won't just be a saloon.
While the recently axed Chrysler was available only as a four-door, its replacement is set to spawn a range of body styles.
The version seen here is a compact MPV, set to rivals the likes of the Ford Focus C-MAX and Renault'sScenic. The car will also be sold as a Dodge for the first
time. At the front, the Neon will feature similar styling to Chrysler's 300C, while the rear will mimic the look of larger American SUVs.
Despite its upright stance, the model will not be four-wheel drive. Inside, the car seen here will offer space for five, while an additional two seats could be slotted behind the rear bench.
The model will be unveiled at next year's Geneva Motor Show, and is expected to arrive in British showrooms soon after.

Article from: Auto Express
