Any new pics out there? I am especially curious about the interior. GM sure is taking their time getting these to market. Hopefully they will be good enough to put Chevy and GMC on top of the competition.

not till 07 for the GMT900 as ive read on GM sites, small changes along they way maybe

They should take their time with these since they are some of GMs strongest sellers. I am not sure they should wait until 07 though- the current gen is getting outdated fast. Any news on new engines?

The engines aren't their main problem... it is the terrible interiors. Bring them to market fast.

We can expect a good, if not great, interior on these new 900s - especially since GM's latest entries into the market are pretty good on the inside. I just hope it has side-curtains for all 3 row; forget about side-thorax airbags since GM seems to be stubborn about putting those into every new vehicle.

I read at cardesignnews.com that the GM Graphyte concept shows some cues as to future GMC trucks. Mainly, a chrome grille with gray surround, flanked by headlights with turn signals above them that rose into the hood.

Now look at this link, in the mesh area in the front. Actually, the Tahoe looks like the older 70s 'Burban in a few ways.
GMC better damn well offer that stupid chameleon graphite blue color as a color option on their Tahoe clone. well personally i love the range rover, it makes the armada and QX56 (and most of the other full-size SUVs under $50k) look under-engineered in comparison.
anyway, back on topic, i wish the big 3 could actually give their cars a complete makeover every 5-7 years like the japanese companies, instead of reskinning them every 5 years or so and hoping the public won't notice...GM's lucky this time though because the tahoe/suburban/yukon etc. are very good full-size SUVs, and a reskin would solve their major problems - poor interior quality and an (IMO) dated exterior.

Well the Suburban didnt change much in looks betwen the early 90s and 98. So I assumed they were the same. But still, its not that great of a platform, but I understand they probably are short on money, so thats probably why. The Japanese don't give you a completely new car either. Platforms are updated not completely redesigned, just as GM has done with the W-body cars (from GM10 to MS2000 and now to the latest version) and the "G-body" (including H-, C-, K- and K-spec vehicles). The "new" US Odyssey still has a space where the spare wheel used to be.
THe GMT 900s uae an updated version of the GMT 800 ladder frame. Rather than design a whole new frame every 7 years, GM has been making continual improvements. More improvements will come with the GMT 900s, along with new powertrains and suspensions, new body designs and new interiors.
Ford's "Panther" vehicles all recieved a new underbody frame a few years ago, even though the bodies weren't noticably updated. Just because the VIN codes haven't changed, doesn't mean it's not a new platform. The Daewoo Magnus (Suzuki Verona) still has the same VIN code as the GTO (V-body) and it's not even rwd anymore.
Oh and a fully optioned Escalade ESV Platinum Edition is over $70K, and reportedly can be much more expensive with additional accessories.

There is a difference between owning one and talking about it being the best SUV. Granted, it is a great SUV, heck, I would like one too, but how many RRs are actually sold vs. the rest of its competitors. When it comes to taking out your checkbook, I'm not sure if you'd still be doing a lot of talking. I read somewhere, forgot where tho, that Cadillac was got a focus group together to look at the future escalade... the focus group was made up of stars that currently or would own an Escalade and that GM showed it to them. And they all had like minor things that they wanted to change about it. But overall liked the design. One person that was there was Xhibit and he was like talking about twenty something inch flat panel tvs in the car. stuff like that... but if the stars like it... maybe it might turn out looking good?

Videotaped remarks were kept private. One new vehicle was unveiled.
This trendsetting group included NBA and NHL stars. It included TV actors, movie producers, hip-hop artists and jazz musicians. Some were teenagers, others were 40 years old.
These tastemakers had gathered to see the 2007 Cadillac Escalade, which debuts next January. They are a small but significant band of trendsetters that Cadillac is consulting for its future product.
The sneak preview marks a significant change in GM's marketing strategy. When the current Escalade debuted in 2001, it was a hit with athletes and hip-hop artists who loved its roomy interior and in-your-face styling.
Caught by surprise, Cadillac had done nothing special to cultivate them. But this time, it sought out the trendsetters to catalog their likes and dislikes -- and generate buzz.
"We wanted to put the Escalade out in front of the people recognized as understanding 'cool,' " says Cadillac Marketing Director Jay Spenchian. "We wanted to see if they thought we were headed in the right direction. That way we still had time to make some modifications if we needed to."
Brainstorm session
The sneak preview took shape in late summer 2003 during a brainstorming session attended by GM executives including Chairman Rick Wagoner and John Smith, group vice president for vehicle sales.
"Is there any way to get current and future Escalades in front of them to see if it's the right direction?" Wagoner asked.
Smith and the Cadillac team arranged a special focus group.
One day in September 2003, GM ushered the tastemakers to the studio for back-to-back sneak previews. Most of the influencers in the group owned at least one Escalade.
Attending the Hollywood sessions were GM design chief Ed Welburn, Cadillac Vehicle Line Director Gary White, Cadillac Marketing General Manager Mark LaNeve, Escalade Marketing Director Kim McGill, Spenchian and the Escalade's design directors.
Behind the curtain
Spenchian declined to identify the VIPs, but one source says some of the attendees included NBA players from the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, several leading actors from the TV sitcom "That '70s Show" and some of the celebrities invited to GM's pre-Oscar fashion show last week. The 30-minute sessions ran from 1:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. One by one, each tastemaker navigated a labyrinth of large black curtains that separated several vehicles. Behind each curtain was a new model bathed in dramatic lighting.
Each VIP saw the Cadillac Sixteen concept sedan, followed by the current Escalade. They viewed the "Matrix" special-edition model of the Cadillac Escalade EXT, as seen in the movie by the same name, plus a prototype Escalade ESV Platinum edition, a vehicle with two ceiling-mounted TV screens and 20-inch chrome wheels.
Behind the final curtain was a black foam model of the 2007 Escalade, with a newly created clay model interior. Hidden cameras captured the tastemakers' reactions.
"We watched where their eyes went initially," says Cadillac spokesman Jeff Kuhlman, who attended the event.
The tastemakers did not recommend any significant changes to the sheet metal, which was just as well, since GM already had locked in the Escalade's exterior styling.
Focus groups are more commonly employed earlier in a vehicle's development, while there's still time for GM to alter the sheet metal. But for the new Escalade, other adjustments were still possible.
A lot of input
Cadillac learned a lot during the preview. The tastemakers offered suggestions for new colors and trim, wheels, the audio system, engine choices, exhaust modifications and placement of the Cadillac crest.
"That crest," Welburn says. "I heard over and over they wanted it large in the front and large in the rear and on the wheels and other unique areas."
Each tastemaker also had a chance to spell out his or her preferences in one-on-one chats with a designer. Normally, GM designers don't get instant feedback from focus group participants, Spenchian says.
But a problem arose: Some athletes stretched their 30-minute briefings into two-hour sessions. "I was given the assignment of moving the NBA stars out of the way," Welburn says. "Most of them didn't want to leave."
One VIP attendee was rapper Xzibit, emcee of MTV's "Pimp My Ride," a hit TV show that offers a tongue-in-cheek glimpse of the good life on wheels. Xzibit suggested modifications such as a rear hatch window that could be lowered and larger DVD screens -- "certain things you wish you could see in a car."
"Cadillac knows that we, as hip-hop artists, are spokesmen for some of their products," says Xzibit, who owns a Hummer H2. "We add a lot of aftermarket accessories to their cars. And if they can beat us to the punch -- if they can find out what we'd do after they make it -- they could put it into production first."
After the briefing, GM made subtle changes to the Escalade's color palette, wheel sizes and interior.
Cadillac also will create an advertising campaign that plays off the tastemakers' reaction to the vehicle.
Not everyone at GM thought the use of the influencers was a great idea. Spenchian says some staffers considered data from the VIP focus group to be unscientific -- therefore a waste of time.
"But, ultimately, we were impressed by the results," Spenchian says.
Cadillac will use VIP focus groups for selected vehicles such as the next-generation Cadillac CTS. Says Spenchian: "Rather than us sitting around thinking something is cool, why not get others who are cool to verify that for us?"
Related Stories

I personally like only 3 SUV's..G class, Range Rover, X5...Cadillac should really do something with their Escalade...I mean it's ok on the outside, but inside..man.. it's a damn bus on the inside..ugly... compare the interior of Range Rover and Escalade..Range is so much better

I personally do not consider the Cadillac Escalade an SUV. Of course it was among the first to market that segment on a bigger scale than earlier models, but it certainly has become more of a "lifestyle"-"jeepish" kinda vehicle. I have never ever seen a Cadillac Escalade offroad. So comparing an Escalade to a G-Class, RR or other cars in that segment is kinda inappropriate if you ask me, no offense.

What an improvement. The styling is extremely clean for a full-size SUV, but with these gas prices I hope GM is not looking for these alone to save them. But a really good design none the less...

the backs on the tahoe and escalade are so similar though... if u look at them now the lights are different shape and color. the only difference in these are one little part. and if you look at the pic with the back of the escalade u can see another escalade in the background. same rims so probably and escalade. and on the pic of the tahoe's rear u can see what probably is a denali in the back. and impala, where did u get these pics?

GM's full size SUV's have best in class mileage, and supposedly these will come with DoD and I believe they will be hybrids like the hybrid silverado...it should get very good gas mileage...as far as the rear lights go, I at first thought the same thing, but I noticed the Escalades lights lite up differently and it uses LED's...it's a different configuration, but it uses the same overall shape...I am sure with some different pics it would look much different...

Well, all I can say is good job GM... this looks better than I expected, especially the Tahoe. Panel gaps seem to be very tight. License plate location on the rear tailgate is also an improvement... I think the public that is in the market for this kind of vehicle will eat it all up...all we need now is some interior pics....good stuff!

Things like this happen. this is not the first "insider" photo to appear of the 2007 Tahoe, in fact a shot of it showed up in Popular Mechanics two years ago, and there's also been a studio shot of the Avalanche circulating (on this very site I believe). Anyway whats done is done and GM should let these photos go. They have a lot to be proud of with this design. I like the low and wide stance of these SUVs. I usually don't like large SUV styling at all, but these are all right.

I have always liked the current style full-size SUV's from GM and this new Tahoe looks really nice. I hope they do get decent mileage for the consumer's sake. I think a good idea to get these off the lot is to lower the MSRP compared to the current ones, at least for a little while. The current ones can get a little overpriced in my opinion.

New Theory - The trucks in these pictures look to be production ready and I feel that Mr Impala has stumbled on to a surprise attack that GM is planning on making on the Truck/SUV market.
These vehicles look to be ready for production. Many of the posts that have appeard in various websites over the past year seem to indicate that GM is planning on introducing these early next year - up from the original timeframe of summer/fall 2006 as a 2007 model. Yet all this time we keep seeing more and more evidence that in fact the time frame is much sooner.
I predict that in an effort to get the high profit SUVs and trucks on the market GM will have the following product roll-out:
September 2005:
2006 Chevy Tahoe
2006 GMC Yukon
2006 Cadillac Escalade
January 2006:
2007 Chevy Suburban
2007 GMC Yukon XL
2007 GMC Yukon Denali
2007 GMC Yukon Denali XL
2007 Cadillac Escalade ESV
March/April 2006:
2007 Avalanche
2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT
Early Summer 2006:
2007 Chevy Trucks
2007 GMC Trucks
With Toyota gaining market share GM can not afford for Toyota to introduce their new Texas Built Tundra the summer of 2006 with only the promise of a 2007 truck on the horizon.
I may be completely wrong... but I predict that GM has something up its sleeve and we will all be surprised that these production ready vehicles will be on the market this fall to blow away the competition and to start bringing in high dollar sales with zero incentives and no rebates.
What you are looking at folks is the kind of run away surprise success that the Chrysler 300 was to the American Sedan market that the new GMT900s will be to the American Truck Market.
I go down on the record - and this is just based on a hunch and much following the blogs over the past year...
Those are 2006 Trucks!!!!!
Mark my words.

Based on much discussion and putting the pieces together I predict that these 2006 SUVs will be introduced in 78 days at the Texas State Fair... the same place that GM introduced the current fullsize SUVs. They are manufactured in Arlington Texas and Texas is their largest market. They will probably go on sale shortly there after with the full size Suburban, Yukon XL and Escalade ESVs being introduced at Detroit.

The earliest I think they would risk pushing it up to would be after the vehicles are 'officially' introduced at NAIAS and LAIAS.

The Texas State Fair would count as an "Official" introduction since they have a large aut show as part of the Fair. Go to Bigtex.com to see details.
I seriously doubt GM will wait to NAIAS to start rolling these out. This is why Zeta was canceled/delayed.

General Motors will launch its next generation of full-sized Chevrolet trucks over about 15 months beginning early next year, dealer sources say.
A successful launch is critical to GM's turnaround. GM's full-sized trucks will be re-engineered and restyled for the 2007 model year. GM pushed the launch forward to get fresh versions of its most-profitable vehicles to market quickly.
Sales of the 2007 Tahoe SUV will begin in the first quarter of 2006. GM will follow with the Suburban and Avalanche SUVs and the Silverado 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups.
Cadillac and GMC truck models that share components and chassis with the Chevrolet vehicles are expected to follow a similar schedule. The 2007 GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade SUVs are expected to debut about the same time as the Tahoe, for example.
Chevrolet's top dealers viewed the 2007 full-sized truck lines at a meeting late last month in Palm Springs, Calif. One dealer who attended said dealers saw the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and Avalanche, "and pictures of the Silverado."
The Tahoe's styling is softer and is evolutionary rather than radically different, an industry source says. All sheet metal is new.
Dealers were told that the Chevrolet trucks would debut on the following timetable:
>>> Tahoe, first quarter 2006
>>> Suburban, second quarter 2006
>>> Avalanche, third quarter 2006
>>> Silverado 1500, fourth quarter 2006
>>> Silverado 2500, 3500, first quarter 2007
A dealer who asked not to be identified said the Tahoe is expected to arrive in February or March.

SOURCE: AutoWeek

"In this case it was a private photo session, and the potential exists the person was involved in the setup or organization of this event."
The practice of capturing images of new models automakers aren't ready to show publicly has long been a cottage industry. Myriad auto enthusiast magazines, Internet sites and newspapers, including The Detroit News, pay to publish spy photos.
But GM is fighting back in cases involving some of its most important and profitable models.
In November 2003, a photographer captured an uncamouflaged shot of the much-anticipated 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The new 'Vette soon surfaced on the Internet, crimping GM's plans to reveal it to the world at the Detroit auto show the following January.
Then last year, a GM photograph of the high-performance Corvette Z06 showed up online after it was distributed to journalists who agreed not to publish until a later date.
This time, GM hired security experts to track down the source of the leak and warned several Web site operators against publishing the photo.
But the Corvette Z06 had already digitally raced around the world, taking some of the buzz away from the car's premiere at this year's Detroit auto show.
The shots of GM's new SUVs now circulating on the Web are especially troubling to the company. The highly profitable vehicles mean so much to its financial turnaround the automaker killed a rear-wheel drive vehicle program to devote money and people to bring the new Tahoe, GMC Yukon and others to market six months sooner than originally planned.
"We don't want the competition to have any insight into the products," Kuhlman said.
In addition, GM is waiting to show the new models publicly to maintain consumer interest and sales of the current Tahoe and other large SUVs.
But in the age of the Internet and blast e-mails, a giant automaker's efforts to keep a hot model under wraps can go astray.
Automakers typically give photographs to journalists early under the agreement they won't be published until an agreed-upon date. The practice raises the risk that the photographs can leak onto the Internet, which triggers other news organizations to publish in an effort to remain competitive.
And these days, it seems, more photographers are willing to break the rules to bag their quarry.
Spy photographer Jim Dunne of Popular Mechanics magazine says he lives by a code of ethics when skulking around for his money shot, often hiding behind the fences at GM's proving grounds in Milford.
"You have to be careful not to go on private property," said Dunne, who once rented a helicopter to get a shot of a Corvette prototype.
Dunne sells his photos to other publications after Popular Mechanics gets first crack at them, but he won't sell to Web sites. "They tend to give away the secrets," he said.
Brenda Priddy, another oft-published spy photographer, says she'll sell legally obtained spy photos to Web sites.
Priddy said she received a call from a man who said he had taken the photos of the new GM SUVs and was looking to make a deal. She declined to handle the photos because she was concerned they may have been taken on GM property.
"I don't touch anything that was taken inside," Priddy said. "It's not worth my reputation with the car companies."
Priddy says the person, whose name she doesn't remember, told her he was invited by an employee into the building where the photo shoot was taking place, so he didn't feel he was trespassing. But she warned him not to distribute the pictures, apparently taken by a camera phone.
"I told him, 'I can't touch them and you shouldn't post them,' said Priddy. "You're going to have somebody knocking on your door.'"
Nevertheless, the photos soon showed up on several Web sites.
Robert Lane, publisher of the popular Web site Blueovalnews.com, said he decided to place a link on his site to another site that published the photos. The reason is simple: "Our photo galleries draw the most traffic by far," Lane said. "It's absolutely good for revenue."
The episode shows that anyone with the opportunity and a camera phone can expose a company's secrets.
Automakers are taking a harder line as technology threatens to turn their employees and visitors into potential spy photographers.
At DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group, imaging devices are strictly forbidden on company property without authorization, spokesman David Elshoff said.
"That includes, but is not limited to film, digital cameras, video cameras, PDAs, handheld computers, cell phones and/or watches with image capturing," Elshoff said.
GM enforces a strict ban on camera phones in product development and design areas.
Even spy photographers are now concerned about having their work ripped off, especially when they sell it to a Web site, Priddy said.
"I do worry a little bit because things get out of hand, especially in Korea and the countries around Russia because the photos get taken (without payment)," Priddy said.
You can reach Ed Garsten at (313) 223-3217 or egarsten@detnews.com.

well, judging from the capabilities of the H2, and of military versions of trucks (mainly pick-ups) based on the platform, yes it can handle it's own in moderate to decent off-road situations. however, when kitted out in mega-SUV form, I would imagine the off-road prowess would be reduced somewhat since these vehicles are heavier and are outfitted mainly for on-road use. Go ahead and drive one on a snowy or muddy road or an open field, but I wouldn't do much more than that.

Will the Escalade still be called the Escalade, or will it go with Cadillac's new naming scheme? Like ETS?

If anything, it would become the ERX, since it is an SUV, but don't count on it. All indicators point to it staying Escalade.

I think that if they were to drop the name "Escalade" it would be marketing suicide. The name has an asture about it that sells itself, "ETS" or "ERX" would just make it another full sized GM SUV clone, and it would lose a lot of its "Cool Factor"
We'll probably keep seeing "Escalade" for at least a few years more.

Saying "I roll up in the ERX" doesn't flow off the tounge like "I roll up in the Es-ca-lade. And that is half of the marketing of that vehicle, free plugs. And if I had to guess, I would say that C&G will have the stuff up at midnight. But it might be embargoed until 9:15, as strange as that would be. But I know their admin has the stuff and has had it for months, as well as a bunch of other future GM stuff.

The Long wheelbase version is ESV and the Avalanche type is EXT.
If you look at the Mrimpala spy shots youll see Esclade. But the EXT and ESV will probly just be called those.

FordRules,
GM rarely releases info at midnight because no-one is working then. Also, I talked to my GM media rep today, and she indicated 9am tomorrow morning.

The Yukon's been confirmed for Anaheim, but that's all that's been confirmed. The Escalade is likely for there, though, just not confirmed. So only a few more weeks on those. That show is Oct. 5-7. I'm really anxious for these since we haven't seen the front of those through leaked photos yet. And the interiors are allegedly very different between the three this time, and I am curious to see how different they are.

Does GM forecast a price increase on these new trucks?
