Honda already sold 5000 cars after 4 weeks of sale. If you compare it with the total sale of 7500 Civics in year 2005 this is an unbelievable increase. There is already a waiting time of 4 months (!!!) for this car in germany. <p>Most popular engine is the new 1,8 i-VTEC with 140 HP with a share of 55 %. 20 % of the buyers has chosen the 2,2 i-CTDI. <p>In April 2006 the Hybrid will go on sale and autumn 2006 the 3-door Civic.<br>

Good to see such a gamble pay off for Honda; maybe we will see Honda return to that aggressive stategy it used to do so well with. <p>I must admit the first time I same it I was a little sceptical, but Europeans love something a little quirky and original. The fact it is practical and of reasonable quality adds substance to the unique style. Makes the Focus look dull and boring (especially the MkII, as they made the design more conservative than the first one).

I dislike the pointy rear bumper when I saw my first one on the road. I'm very suprised at the figures. Honda must be happy...

Why do people still find the Civic as a "gamble" or even so weird at all? Yes it is a very sporty and individual car and looks cool, especially coppared to the old Civic. Which is exactly why this one wasnt musch of a gamble, it was the obvious choice. Ive seen 3-4 so far on the road and they look really good but its not like u are looking at a UFO guys! The design of it was mostly influenced by futuristic concepts of the late 80's-early 90's as well. At that time designs like these were impossible but today they are definately do-able. So Honda took that and made it into a "back to the future" kind of vehicle. Great sales where expected. Personally as much as i love it, i still preffer cars such as the C4 Coupe or even the original(yet facelifted) Focus Mk1, cause they look cool and fresh yet they allow you to "work" on them as well, thinking of added bodykit and nice colours, rear wings etc. The Civic looks like a window maneken: great looking but only watch, dont touch. It just feels kinda "fixed" in its image that you dont want to tamper with it. Of course, thats what i used to say about the Alfa 147 and after seeing the GTA and first moded cars i swiftly changed my mind;) So still a great car and sales figures do not surprise me at all.

Your answer can be summed in one sentence:<p>"beauty is in the eye of beholder"

Personally believe this car is amazing, and deserves every bit of sucess it gets. Hated it at first, but it's a real grower, and after a while, just looks wicked.
