Really? I actually thought they were fair and objective.
What ones did you have in mind?

Mainly the American cars, the BMW 1 series is too expensive for what it is and there are far more interesting hot hatches than the Corolla (in my opinion).

There are a number of critierias to be met for each class of competition. I am sure all eligbile vehicles were carefully considered, and the ones selected were more in significance than the ones that were not.

im hoping for either the s-class or the C4 to win: the merc because from reviews i've read it's an awesomely impressive car at worst, and the best car currently on sale in the world, period, at best. or the C4 because it's so funky and out there.

The S-Class is a very good car, but the new gadget on it (the engine automatically braking in case of a problem), does not actually work, I saw it on the television not long ago.

Any of the ten finalist that come on top deserves this award; in fact, I can make a case for just about every one of the 27 candidates selected. I like the whole list very much

I'm still not 100% sure with the reliabity of Mercedes-Benz, as on Top Gear, they showed the CLS and the CL AMG, and they commented on the average build quality.

Let's try and switch gear a little bit (but you are more than welcomed to discuss any reliablity issues in the appropriate thread/section). Feel free to discuss about the candidates, as provided (linked), vehicles that should have been nominated, predictions, and other related items...

Why is the Swift in the top 10? I think the Sonata or the Mazda5 should have been there instead of the Swift. The Swift aint a new car.

I've read that the new Suzuki Swift is a very good car.
Check http://www.whatcar.com
It came 2nd place in the supermini league (beaten by the new Renault Clio).
Also, to be honest I quite like the new Sonata, but the English car magazines didn't .

I watched the CLS on Top Gear. I don't remember them pointing out any build quality faults. In fact Top Gear named both CLS and new S-class top over-all cars for 2006.
You may have been watching some other channel with a some other car on some other day.

I finally got my hand on the new Passat.
Solid? Yes.
Cheaply made plastics? Yes
I give it a 9 out of 10.
Very noisy electrical hand break.

Yes I agree with you. Those old Mercedes Benz which he showed were amazing though.

I pretty much agree on most nominations. I think the MX5 deserves th price. It brings back a whole lot of motoring values at the price of a medium sedan...
Looks like the Prius is winning the world green car....
Dont agree with any of the world car design of the year - I reckon that of those, only the C4 is special and the hype is over...
finally, go the audi for performance WCOTY.

In my opinion is it the most boringly designed car this year.
I hope the MX-5 wins the best car of the year though.
