Here it goes guys.
Do It like this:
- Give 3 points to the SUV that you think deserves to be CSS's 2005 TOTY
- Give 2 points to your second option
- Give 1 point to your third option.
^^ This is all to minimise bias and give the SUV a price as objective as possible.
Vote according to the following:
- Importance and contributions to the industry How important is this SUV for the automotive industry or for the brand? Is it an interesting SUV or will it make a revolution in its segment or hold an importance for the manufacturer?
- Bumper to bumper How well does it match up to the other vehicles in its segment? Is it marginally better or does it set a new standard?

- Heritage Does the SUV have to live up to a name and reputation? Is it building its own reputation? Furthermore, will the SUV be remembered in 20 years.
Try to vote for a SUV that is outstanding in these areas, not a truck you like.
Happy voting

_______________
Nominees:

Jeep Commander:
Jeep makes a move into the 7 seater SUVs with the Commander. With a touch of retro and modernism, the vehicle is true to Jeeps offroad heritage and it marks the begiining of an era.
Available with 6 and 8 cylinder versions, and of course a powerful HEMI V8 engine.

______
Land Rover Range Rover Sport:
Based on Land Rover's award winning Discovery 3 / LR3, the Range Sport is here to show a sportier side of Land Rover. The vehicle exceded expectations at Land Rover's ground - offroading, and proved to be the fastest Land Rover produced yet as well.
Powered by a 4.4V8, a 4.2 V8 Supercharged and a 2.7 state of the art diesel, the vehicle is available with permanent 4X4 only, mated with air suspension and the awe-some Terrain response.

_______
Suzuki Grand Vitara:
The small car manufacturer is back with a Suzuki that is so improved over its predecesor that it impresses and embarasses many cars in its segment. Isn't the Tahoe an '07 model? I believe that the Q7 won't be out in the US until Spring, so is it reasonable for Americans to vote for a vehicle that hasn't made it to their shores yet? If model years 2005-07 are eligible (which wouldn't make sense in light of the title of the award), then what about all the other SUVs -- the Hyundai Santa Fe, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nissan Pathfinder, Subaru B9 Tribeca, etc.?
I'm not trying to be a pain, I'm just a bit confused....
Mike
_________________

I agree with Mike. Chevy Tahoe, or any other vehicles plan to be released after calendar year 2005 should not qualify 1) most of them are 07 models 2) not yet available at local dealers.
We are voting for new vehicles released in 2005, tagged either 05 or 06 MY.

Laws state you cannot sell cars a whole calendar year in advance. The earliest the Tahoe can be sold to the public is the first day of 2006.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Michy'ael - The vehicles you mentioned weren't nominated, therefore dont appear on this thread.
I have included every car that was nominated, that has appeared in 2005 or being sold in 2005 and not before. Since there wasn't anything clear as to wether I should include only cars sold in 2005 or appeared in 2005, I let everything apply, as long as it didn't participate in 2004's SUVOTY, as in the case of the Grand Cherokee and the Hyundai Tucson.

how about we have a vote on ruling the 2007 models out. It's unfair and this is 2005 SUVotY! Tahoe will get the chance to prove itself next year.
Because the Audi Q7 is a 2006 model in some markets and is already on sale it can take part, IMHO.
So here go my votes...
3 points: Audi Q7
2 points: Land Rover LR3
1 point: Nissan XTerra (MotorTrend's SUVotY!)

3- Tahoe
2- R-class
1- Range Rover Sport
While the Tahoe's eligibility may be in question, as long as it hasn't been banned it gets my vote because of its high significance of the market. The R-class is simply unique and intersting, I like it because it's ground-breaking. The Range Rover Sport isn't much special, it's just how sport SUVs should be done though.

3 points - Suzuki Grand Vitara : This is what a Suzuki should be, it looks great, goes well, and goes off road! The perfect sand buggy for all those city slickers. I love this car!
2 points - Mercedes Benz ML Class : Finally, they got it right! I give this car 2nd place just because it replaced the worst car IMO in Merc history. Sure the old one was ok, but in terms of quality it was terrible. The new one fixes that, looks cool, and brings a much fresher look. It also drives well!
1 point - RangeRover Sport : It goes off road, yet has the ability on road ability similar to an X5! It brings LR herritage in a moden if expensive, package. It looks great to boot!
And just one question. If the LR3 won last years SUVOTY how come it has been re-nominated??? I'm lost...

You really have to read most people's posts to see why they voted the way that they did, sure it's not conveinient, but it'st the only way to do it. I guess someone could consolidate the arguments for the vehicle at the end.
As for the Tahoe, instead of chaning my list, I'm just giving the Q7 first spot, it's stylish, interesting, and a good luxury SUV from a company that is new to the SUV game.

I swear, if they let that car win COTY, I won't buy WHEELS ever again...
It's a good car, great in some respects but nope, sorry, it's nope COTY IMO

Well actually I reckon the 380 is a trully worthy vehicle. It does nothing wrong and to many people, the car is actually better than the BF Falcon. But for guys like you or me, the FWD Mitsu can't take the Falcon . However, people aren't all like you or me and for a cheap runabout, but big enough and comfortable enough for the whole family, nothing takes the 380.
As for the Sport,
any magazine that could ever take the X5 and the ML as better performers than a Land Rover dont have a clue about 4X4s. This is particularly true in Australia where people actually DO have a genuine reason to have a 4X4.
And their criticisms about some cars are frankly taken off the enciclopedia of most uncommon excuses to say something bad about a car. Its like they're trying to fill space...

I would agree with both of you, the Grand Vitara is another one of those underappreciated, not recognized (enough) vehicles many forget about. I guess badge talks [storms off the room ]
Hey at least it's doing well in the voting
