According to BMW chief designer Adrian Van Hooydonk. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emwink.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>Interview by TopGear:<p><I>Q: "Just how much wilder can BMW go?"<br>A: "Much. Anything is possible. We have not reached the end. Our imagination knows no bounderies and our creativity has no fear."<p>Q: "So the design revolution rolls on?"<br>A: "For sure."<p>... "Ten years ago BMW had a very narrowly defined aesthetic, which meant people were able to predict what the next BMW was going to be like. Predictability is not healthy. It was neccessary to open the palette. We've started, we're still doing it, and we're not going to stop."<p>... "BMW firmly believs that design is core to the brand. Emotional design sells, and to create emotion you have to take a stand. If you try to be everything to everyone, you will fail." </I><p><br>More:<p>Page 1<br><A HREF="http://img214.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img214&image=imgp12583kq.jpg" TARGET="_blank">http://img214.exs.cx/my.php?lo...q.jpg</A><p>Page 2 <br><A HREF="http://img214.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img214&image=imgp12597tm.jpg" TARGET="_blank">http://img214.exs.cx/my.php?lo...m.jpg</A>

I think it's the same for Audi and Mercedes.. I mean, look at Audi. First ones to introduce LED headlights. They are really pushing their LED headlights, looks like they will launch them soon. I mean they put them on every concept they make...

After I read his quotes, my first thought was..."and that's why no major car companies are run by a designer..."

<br>Old BMW were boring cars for people who think that a Ralph Lauren button down is high fashion. The new BMW line is full of memorable and noticeable cars. A Z4 or 7 can't pass by without catching my eye -- the old lineup was almost invisible. <br>

After reading the hole interview all i though t was " What a prick!!! ". That's why people are getting so worked over their designs, it's the arrogance of who designed them.

but the thing about the pre-bangles bimmers is that they were timeless...the cars now seem like they will go out of style too quickly due to their radicaly designs....the E39 could still look like it just stepped out of the factory if it was still being sold today...the E38 7ers were great looking cars...even look back onto the late 80's with the old 6 series...that was a beautiful car....I would love to have one, or the 8 series, another beautiful car...thats also what IMO was so much better about bimmers...they were understated...kind of like a sleeper car. The designs were tasteful and they wouldn't get you noticed as much as the new ones do now...personally, the e39's always catch my attention, all bimmers do...I love all the older bimmers, but I don't care for the new ones...they just don't cut it for me...I guess it's a matter of taste, but I don't think it got any better for BMW after bangle arrived...I don't care how much they sold because I know they have been doing fairly well, but the designs are ass ugly...Hooydont bimmers are some of the most beautiful bimmers, soem of the most beautiful cars ever created...They didn't have to have some crappy design to exude "presence", you didnt have to see anything to know that this is a drivers car, and one of the best damn cars on the market ...you could feel its presence...
