<B>B</B> ritish sports car manufacturer TVR's next model is set to have only two wheels - because it could be a motorcycle! The new owner of the Blackpool firm, Russian Nikolai Smolensky, is a big bike fan and suggested the idea when he first took over.<p>A company spokesman said: "It's something that could happen. If there is enough interest in one, we will probably do it."<p><br>The TVR would require a power output of more than 150bhp, a 0-60mph sprint time of around three seconds and a maximum speed in excess of 160mph.<br>But while a superbike is most in keeping with TVR's image, an unfaired urban machine could be a possibility, too. These types of motorcycle are increasing in popularity, as their engines' mix of a large capacity and a high torque figure are great around town.<p><br> <I>Article from: Auto Express</I>

Thats fast very fast <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.germancarfans.com/images/forums/driver.gif" BORDER="0"> However i don't think it will happen, a bike with the top speed of 160 mph is just very dangerous in the wrong hands...

Many motorcycles will top 160+ mph. I did 270kph (indicated) on a modern 600. It was probably closer to 150+ mph since the rear wheel slips, trying to push the bike against that kind of resistance. A Yamaha R1 prepped for AMA Superstock (stock engine, only suspension mods) did 193mph (or thereabouts) at Daytona. A motorcycle offers so much bang for the buck compared to a car.<br>I really hope TVR brings out a bike. :)

I still believe that manufacturers should stick to what they know how to do. If SMART had kept to the Fortwo, If LAND ROVER hadn't brought the Freelander, if HUMMER had kept to the H1, if MG had only done sports cars if TVR would just keep to sports cars it would be much much better....

What if Toyota had stuck to making econo cars, where would their wonderful offroaders and high end cars be? what if Honda had stuck to making motocycles, where would their incredible automotive engineering talents be? What if samsung had stuck to selling fish (I love their cell phones)? What if harley davidson had never expanded beyond cruisers (I adore their sports bikes)? What if Xerox had marketed the GUI instead of giving it away to the likes of Microsoft and Apple?<p>Just because a company expands into a new line of business, it doesn't mean that they will be bad at it. Sure there are many examples of companies being over optimistic about their abilities, but there are also many examples of companies that have revolutionized markets because they tried their hand at something that was new to them.

Its like seing a new Kia beater from Rolls royce (however good the product may be) or seing the quickest and best handling dump truck made by porsche...

just what the world needs, a Superbike that readily kicks its tail out in the wet.<br>Seriously though TVR now has a lot more money for R&D and I also doubt they'd go it alone (even if the other party is there for consultation purposes only)

Did you know that some of NYC's subway cars are made by different divisions of major companies that are not famous for trains? Some of the subway cars are made by a division of Bombardier, who also makes seadoos, snowmobiles and Polaris Motorcycles. Others are made by Yamaha, maker of such diverse things as motorcycles, automotive engines, and high end musical instruments. Go figure.

I believe the japanese term is Zaibatsu. Prime example is Mitsubishi: Coal mining, shipbuilding, banking, insurance, warehousing, and trade. Later diversification carried the organization into such sectors as paper, steel, glass, electrical equipment, aircraft, oil, and real estate. And more besides.
