Fiat may offer Lancia and Iveco for sale Italian press report
18th January 2005
A story in the Milano Finanza weekly suggests Fiat Group is planning an announcement that its Lancia car and Iveco truck subsidiaries may be offered for sale to raise some 2bn as part of a further two-year restructuring plan for the indebted group. The same story adds that a further US$2bn might be raised by a bond issue, while Fiat Autos sales network in Italy might be subjected to cuts.
The analysis of Fiats liquidity quoted by the paper suggests that Fiat might become insolvent in 13 months if it were unable to extend the repayment schedule for its bank debt. The plan accordingly is said to cap Fiats debt until the end of 2005 at 10.5bn; it reached 14.2bn at the end of 2004. Fiat is reported to expect to save 610m of fixed costs this year. I'm very disappointed by this news.
Why the hell Fiat will sale Lancia ???
It's unbelievable !
Fiat Group range is :
- Fiat for entry level
- Lancia for mid-luxury
- Alfa Romeo for sportiviy
- Maserati for luxury and sportivity
- Ferrari for "dream car"
I can believe that they will cut this range to sale Lancia.
Moreover, Lancia has a great past and the opportunity to become as well in the future. Lancia brand image is good, more than Fiat...
They can sale Iveco...
I'm thinking that Fiat owners or directors are very stupid when i read some news or when i see the Fiat Croma!!
If they want to be competitive with good financial health : THEY HAVE TO MAKE GOOD CARS WITH GOOD STYLING !!!!
So, i suggest them my plan of success :
- buy new designers
- design latin cars
- change directors
- kill cars which are unable to perform the market like Croma, Multipla, ... before the launch
- do not make Fiat/ Lancia clone
- change the ads campaign which are focused on the product and not the brand. Ads show fun oriented products but is Fiat a fun oriented brand ?
- develop cooperation with others car makers and espacially Korean or Malesian car makers for little size car.
- don't make Monospace like Fiat Ulysse or Lancia Zeta because of cost
- focus on little cars and new concept like SUV or Coup Cabriolet which could bring back more money and positive brand image
- close some italian's factories and delocalise into East European countries because of work cost

Sale isn't a good solution because the group will crash after that.
In a family, you can't sale your brother because of money problems ?
They have to thing what is wrong in their manner to manage.
Solution is here!

In my early days in Europe, I loved those Lancia cars. They were nothing like the regular cars on the street. I was like 7 years old. I don't know much about them since I haven't been there in years. Is Lancia that bad? Rebadged?

I really doubt that Lancia will find any takers but perhaps Iveco yes. Can't you see for example Ford grabbing Iveco and growing back their truck division? I can.

I'm very sure Lancia will stay in Fiat becauae i've saw one page of fiat's press conference which is trully official and it says lancia will make the next hatchback which will be named Delta onced again, which is good news.
I hope the next Delta hatchback look more modern like present alfa romeo cars and also i hope this car will make it's return to rally races sinced early 90s with original delta.
