There was no way Mercedes would let Chrysler make ME412, a car that kills SLR in terms of looks , performance ect.

Like the article said, the reason most likely has to do with the cost of building it, as well as getting people to pay enough so that the project would at least break even. They probably want to go with a vehicle like the Firepower, which is easily buildable because of its relation to an existing vehicle, and then go from there.

If the ME 4-12 is scraped by DC I believe it will live on in some form or another by the next Pagani super car.

Funny you mentioned that about the ME4/12 Living on in the Pagani..
Because the Zonda Successor is rumored to use the ME4/12's Engine.

IMO of all the crop of supercars evermade, no one succeeded from looking distinctive enough as much as the ME412 and the Evergreen Pagani Zonda and lets not forget the murcielago.
Back to reality, The decision is a good one and Chrysler would not regret it. They should not loose focus on their mainstream cars and experience what happend with VW when Dr. Piech moved all his focus to the Bugatti Veyron. The firepower atleats would carry some of the car's cues and its much more feasible with both existing chasis and engine.
GOODBYE MY BELOVED ME412
...the end.
